I am a inexperienced Westie owner and novice mechanic! I have recently bought an SEIW 1.6 CVH Westfield with twin Webbers and am already hooked! I love the simplicity of the engine and don’t want to replace it with a newer type or go the turbo/injection/increased capacity route. I do however want to increase the performance nearer to its full potential without losing drivability (intended use is road and the occasional track day). As a first step I am planning to find out what it is currently producing and have it properly set up on a rolling road. Then I am considering replacing the lean burn head (which was apparently flowed and polished several years ago, but I don’t know how well) with a ported and polished Hemi head, possibly with slightly larger valves. To this I plan to add a fast road cam, solid lifters and stronger springs. Then have the carbs etc re set up and tested on the rolling road. Can anyone tell me if there are any pitfalls to this approach that I should watch out for? I believe the lean burn pistons have a different profile to the hemi ones. Is there any risk of contact between valves and piston? Will I be missing out on potential performance by keeping the current pistons? Any advice very welcome, especially where to get a replacement head, who to get to do the head work and which cam to go for. I am based near High Wycombe. Thanks!
Can anyone advise please? I have a 2L Zetec, an early version purchased in 1998 from Raceline. The head is described as a Silvertop and it is standard, casting number 958MR-6090-CC on exhaust face. I wish to fit a later Blacktop which I have, casting number XS76090AC. The later head has marginally larger valves and will be the basis for further mods. Externally the heads do look very similar but not identical and nothing that can't be modified to suit I think. However are the water ways, oil ways etc the same? Has anyone undertaken this alteration and aware of any problems please?
I have put a bunch of things on ebay, due to me not needing them any more. Feel free to have a look. I'm not really ebay-savvy so... If there's anything there you would like and the auction has no bidders, I think I can end the auction and give it to you directly? Anyway...
