    Seight Water pump "squeal"

Hi all, Had some rolling road work done today and the car popped a hose due to the high revs, this hasn't caused any problem except that something now squeals intermittently. My thought is water pump and the only thing to do is change it, however I thought it may be the alternator as it probably got wet during the hose incident. Questions are, how do I find the source of the squeal as it only does it when driving i.e. I can't make it do it on command and if it is the water pump how do I identify which one I have? The car was factory built in 2004 but I'm told was re-built in 2012 with a TVR 4.0 litre cross bolted block. Thanks all, in the meantime I'm going to WD40 the alternator to see if that does anything. Cheers Dave

    Flickering charging light

Hi there, I've got an SEIW (from 'Wheels' - Chris Middlemass) last year that's running 2l Zetec and twin Webers. For the last ten miles the charging light has started to flicker on once the engine has warmed up. To begin with it revs past 4k and the light stays out. But as it warms up it starts to flicker on at lower and lower revs, anything above 2500rpm. I tested the alternator output before heading out on a test drive and it was returning a consistent 14.2V, and the battery is similarly healthy when it's not under load. So, what's my next step? Am I safe to head out on a 75-mile run? Many thanks for any feedback. Chris

    Completely dead but everything works

Hi,...... Need some help for someone who isn't that technical and does't know anything about electrics so please be gentle with your responses. I am trying to not to call out a mechanic but might have to if not answers. I took the car out yesterday after laying it up for 2 months over Christmas. Started the engine a few times over the period and it is also in the garage on a trickle charger. Anyway, went out for a drive in rare sunshine and it was great I so miss driving it. Went for approx 80 miles and stopped to fill up,went to a few shops so engine on and off quite a few times and after approx 2hrs pulled up on the drive. .......... I went inside to have a cup of tea and let the brakes cool down before putting it in the garage........... This is when the car wouldn't start.... The lights, horns, fuel pump everything works and the dash lights come on as normal but nothing on the turn of the key from the engine....... Completely dead. I have checked the fuses, put it in gear to free the alternator and turn the belts...... Checked no leads are loose and everything works apart from the engine starting....... Even tried the trusty hammer to see if the starter motor/alternator needed freeing ..........still nothing........ Arrrrrr Sorry for the story but thought it would be important that everything was working until I parked it on the drive and everything works but it will not turn over. Any help would be really appreciated Thanks MIKE
