  1. Hi all, I purchased a Coolex radiator sometime ago and just got around to installing it but have a couple of questions. I'm fitting it to my Westfield with a 1.8 Zetec engine the first being the stat switch on the Coolex radiator has spade type terminals and I'd like to keep the original connector on the car which clicks into place securely and have round bullet type connectors. Is there an adaptor available or do you just have to replace it with spade type connectors? I'd like to use the new stat switch rather than swap it over from my old original radiator. Secondly, the bottom hose on the radiator now touches the chassis. Is this an issue and have others encountered this? Many thanks in advance

    FW SE Zetec Build 2018

    Hi Following advice from all the positive responses to my hello world post here is my build blog. Still waiting to collect the chassis and mechanicals, 13 days to go. Spec FW SE new style front and back. Wide front track, heater, Zetec 2 Litre, Mazda dif, Ford recon gearbox, turbo seats, stone guards, 4 point harness, MSA cage, Westy calipers, Orange and black bodywork black wheels. Some questions, first of many. 1, Collection. Any top tips for how to protect parts, secure stuff in transit ? I am going to get the GRP at a later date so this trip will be all the heavy and sharp bits of metal. I have built a wheeled skid for the Engine and gearbox and I have a selection of carry mats, old sheets and a lot of cardboard and straps, anything obvious I am missing ? Do I need to take a selection of boxes ? 2. Doing all the riveting and pipes. Question should I acid prime and spray all the bare aluminium panels or just some of them or don't bother. I was thinking Waxoyl spray ( clear stuff like WD40) inside chassis while doing panels is this worth the effort ? 3. Any suggestions for a good supplier of the super hard drill bits for the chassis drilling, what is the typical price ( I have seen everything from very cheap and suspect to insane price and suspect). 4. Any parts particularly prone to rust in storage while building so I can cover with some oiled paper. My garage is not the driest place. Any feedback gratefully received. Regards
  3. Hello all, after much debate and almost purchasing a built car this week, through fate and slight impulse whist sat in the North Sea (Working) I thought sod it, Iam 40 next year. Let’s bite the bullet and build a Westfield, so I dropped Simon an email and sent over my deposit!... A mixture of very excited, and what have I done feelings are flying around my head this morning. I work week on week off, so have the time to commit to it. My dad has one too which I love working on and my lad is an apprentice mechanic, I love all things petrol so we should hopefully be ok!! 🤞🏼 Anyway, 12 weeks to prepare before collection and a tour of the factory. I will be sorting the garage and reading lots of your build diaries, also I thought I’d start my own. I have Module 1 and 2 on order. Then later on will get the last module to complete. I will share my progress along the way

    SOLD - Zetec inlet manifold

    Brand new Zetec inlet manifold for carbs or TB’s; this is the shallow (65mm deep) item suitable for kit cars. Port openings are 45mm wide and still showing original casting, so could happily be ported/polished if need be. As always, change of direction means it’s no longer required! £100 plus postage/fees, or collection can be arranged from Essex or nr. Cambridge.

I am selling a Westfield supplied 2.0l Blacktop Zetec, on Omex throttle Body’s, Omex 600 ECU with a 170bhp map and loom, Raceline shallow wet sump, Type 9 gearbox reconditioned from Westfield and the clutch and flywheel to go with it. Exhaust manifold and silencer with cat (not carbon) can be supplied with the package to. Everything was supplied from Westfield in 2018 and has driven 5419.4 Miles. Just over 2000 miles was on a road trip to the Alp’s and had one track day. Currently in the process of removing the package from the car but have a video of it running. Reason on selling is because I am doing an engine swap to a 1.6 Ecoboost. Open to offers, please message me to discuss if interested. More photos will be available if needed once removed from the car.
  6. 2.0 litre blacktop zetec for sale. This was a brand new crate engine. Installed in my SEIW Westfield approx March 2017. Fitted with ARP rod bolts. Only covered approx 2000 miles only (mot history). Removed early last year to make way for a turbo charged engine I had built. Kept this engine as a spare however no longer own a Westfield so spares must go. Ford sump fitted however would need re sealing if sump to be used in install (I ran with Raceline sump) Due to current government guidelines, collection / courier to be agreed by both parties. Engine located in Abingdon , Oxon. Looking for £750 (offers will be considered)

  9. For sale is my Westfield SEIW with V8 Bonnet. It has been extensively modified into a fantastic road / track prepped car it is today. The car was built using new components and so registered in 2014 with age related plate. Engine spec.  2.0 litre Ford Zetec black top engine stripped and modified to produce 272 bhp.   11. I have finally been persuaded by my husband to change my crossflow and to get a 2.0 zetec. I have an engine, engine mounts and no need to change the type 9 gearbox, that is it.     Wild idle on Zetec Blacktop

    Hello collective brain, I am struggling to get this pesky westfield back on the road after my fuelling/ignition issues. I too had this fault with my 1.8 Zetec - died on track at Castle Coombe - fixed in pits then spluttered on track so binned it. ed on track so binned it. Sadly died again and had to be recovered home After checking all electrics and fuel etc etc worked again? But then failed on M5 heading to Stoneleigh.... Same thing as you with spluttering and coughing then run down. I did however find that one bolt from the throttle linkage mounting was missing on the ITB and this was causing the linkage to swing when accelerator pushed. Great service from Jenvey - replacement free and next day delivery. I have now... Replaced fuel pump with new Walbro one from Glencoe - Speak to Terry, great service https://www.glencoeltd.co.uk/ (Actually, higher spec for less) Fitted new Sytec in-line fuel filter - again from Glencoe Replaced all hoses with new Cohline fuel lines - Glencoe Checked all relays are working when and how intended - pre-ignition and ignition  Checked all fuses Checked all Earth connections - removed, cleaned and refitted. Refitted vacuum pipe to Fuel Pressure Regulator Replaced all spark plugs and checked for spark etc Checked injectors are firing ok. The result so far is that the car now starts and runs but is currently ticking over at 3000! This has been adjusted down from 4000 by winding in the throttle cable seat (result of reattaching the throttle linkage). So now it is firing again my remaining issue is that on start it races up to 3000 rpm and if I blip the throttle or accelerator pedal it rises but then settles back at 3000? Engine is 1.8 Zetec Blacktop with Jenvey ITB and MBE ECU. I have tried winding the throttle cable to absolute slack and no joy. I tried, gently, lifting the throttle linkage back to try to 'back it off'. The best this did was drop revs by 200? As soon as took pressure off it went back to 3000 plus? I’ll try to upload video of start, revving and fall back to idle. I haven't messed with ECU since it was mapped at InterPro in April. The only thing I think of left to check/change is Throttle Position Sensor. Anyone got any experience, ideas, Jenvey set up instructions or 'how to set idle guides'? Cheers Chris

After wanting to build and run a Westfield for over 20 years this past year I finally got chance to realise my dream but it is with a heavy heart I have to consider selling my freshly build Westfield. I have been offered a very nice 997 at a price I just can't resist and having known the car for sometime I cannot let this pass by if this sells. The car has completed one trackday at Blyton Spec : Registered 1/3/19 Electric Blue bodywork 2.0 Blacktop Zetec on Omex throttle bodies and fitted with a raceline sump. New style FW bodywork with no rear plate recess Sport turbo seats black with blue piping Mazda LSD Pro race 1.2 wheels 7" fronts, 8 " rears fitted with Nankang NS-2R's Westfield Hi-spec brake upgrade new front pads just replaced as the EBC's were not to my liking All LED lights front and rear AIM MXS Strada 1.2 Dash with AIM VIM kit Carbon - Dash, front wings, mirror covers, rear arch stone chip covers, diffuser and cage hole covers Genuine Aerocatch bonnet catches OMP Trecento wheel with quick release column TRS 4 point harnesses 8 channel Freewheel setup with wheel backplate (although I am only using 4 of the channels MSA safety devices cage Only ever seen Vpower fuel through its very short life ! Protech Trackday adjustable dampers Perpsex side wind deflectors Full silicone hoses. Full Geo and corner weight setup at Playskool motorsport less than a month ago. The only addition I was going to consider is some stiffer rear springs as if your lardy like me when two up the car feels way to soft at the rear. Oil changed for Quality 5/30 fully Synthetic ester oil around 600 miles. I have another 5 litres of 5/40 and a few oil filters that will come with the sale All bodywork and wheels were machine polished and had a Gyeon ceramic coating applied at the end of the build making it very hydrophobic. This kit was built with the intention of me keeping it many years (or until I could afford a 997 911!) so everything has been done to the greatest of my ability and with no corners cut on the spec I wanted, It really saddens me to even post this up but the wife has signed off on a 911 and knowing her mood swings I need to grab this by the balls.   14. Good afternoon I maybe a little bit premature but if I am honest I’m so so excited to get started on what has been a journey of around 14 years. So I visited the factory yesterday and placed an order on a new FW SE Zetec with LSD, Throttle bodies, track day dampers, brake upgrade, MSA rollbar, 8” rears, 205 tyres,sport turbo seats and I’ve also gone for the LED rear light upgrade. I have also omitted the following parts from the kit as I’d like to source alternatives elsewhere - front wings as I’d like to source proper carbon items, dashboard inc clocks and switches as I’d like a proper carbon dash with a AIM MXS dash and freewheel buttons to maintain a clean dashboard, seatbelts as I’d like to choose the colour width and type at a later date. I think I have sourced most of the tools and kit I require for the build now and I am just preparing my workspace to accept the kit in 8 weeks time. Planning a visit to Stoneleigh next weekend to help make some decisions on a few bits of like and also to try and decide on a body colour. I really like electric blue at the moment but my original thought was orange. If anyone is interested I’m located in Wetherby so if anyone is local the kettle is always on and the beer is always cold ! Any advice is greatfully received and I’ve covered a few things in previous posts but feel free to offer up any tips or advice. Mark

    Battery Mounting Options?

    Hi guys, I’m thinking of how to mount my battery (Halfords HB038), currently the plan is to make something lightweight and secure from sheet ally - but wondering if anyone has a neat, off-the-shelf solution? Also longer term I’d like a smaller, more compact solution as 330A seem excessive for a 1.8 standard comp ST 1800 Zetec, anyone advise on a good value alternative? cheers
  16. 2.0 Silvertop Zetec rebuilt in 2004 complete with build CD and certificate of authenticity from Ford for the IVA back in the day. My Westfield was built with this engine and it has covered 19k since. Standard engine on Weber 45 DCOE 152 'G' (5 Prog hole) carburettors. Weber Alpha management. AP clutch and RWD flywheel included Setup at Northampton Motorsport with power graph showing 150bhp. Drove fantastically from the moment I bought it until the moment I’ve decided to remove it in favour of an ST170 as an upgrade. Point to note - alloy RWD sump removed and used to build the new engine. FWD sump from ST engine bolted up under the Silvertop to make it easier to transport / manoeuvre. Therefore you will need your own sump and pickup pipe to complete. For sale as a complete package for £1000, or sold separately: Engine c/w clutch and flywheel £400 (SOLD) Weber 45s with short trumpets on manifold with single cable linkage SOLD Mapped Weber Alpha ECU and loom £150 WhatsApp me for video of the engine running in the car before I removed it. 07814 359423.     Throttle bodies - Gsxr K5

    Hi All. I've been given a set of Gsxr K5 throttle bodies to see if they can be made to fit my zetec engine. From what I can see so far, the spacing is 76 - 80 - 76 between the bodies but this isn't a problem as I am going to fabricate my own manifold. The thing I'm concerned about is the fuel rail doesn't have a return on it. The (very knowledgeable) chap I got them off said that modern bikes don't tend to use a return as it makes the fuel hotter and improves the emissions. Would this set up work on a Zetec? Or would I need to change the fuel rail for one with a return (if this is even possible). I am planning on removing the secondary butterflies and the actuator as this is the reason the bodies were given to me, the actuator is faulty. Any thoughts from the collective?

    ECU - Now sorted.

    Hi all. Does anyone happen to have an ECU laying around gathering dust? I would like to run throttle bodies on my zetec 1800 engine, but haven't got any yet so I could potentially purchase a set to match the ecu. A loom would also be helpful if it's not too expensive. Thought I'd ask before I think about going out to buy a new one! Thanks in advance. Gary.

    Fuelling system?

    Hi all. I'm at the stage in my build where I'm starting to look at the fuelling system and it's a bit of a mare to be honest. I dumped the 1.4 cvh in favour of an 1800 blacktop which came with the injection system but no ECU. This is not going to fit for the obvious size reasons. I can't decide whether to ditch the original injection for throttle bodies and aftermarket ecu, keep the original injection and modify the steering mechanism to allow the manifold to fit whilst fitting an aftermarket ecu, or try to fit a standard ecu to the standard injection. Bike carbs won't be an option due to the difficulty getting through the IVA emissions test. I'm also working to quite a tight budget. Would be interested to hear the collectives thoughts on the options available, or any that I have missed /not thought of. Thanks.

  21. Hi All, To avoid further hi-jacking Julie's raceline water rail fitting thread further, thought I'd put this into a new thread. So my car decided to deposit all its coolant on the floor the other day, and suspecting a dodgy thermostat housing I've ordered the Raceline water rail. Whilst waiting for it to arrive, decided to strip out the existing set up This looks like the sender unit for the temp gauge in the dash and looks pretty corroded/knackered, so I think this might be the cause of my leak. Everything else looks fine. Does this thermostat look right? I figured that whilst cold it should be sealing the coolant path but there's a gap of around 1cm? Raceline recommend getting rid of the expansion tank that I'm currently running, but I note that when @Julie Hall - AO Representative, Peak District AO fitted her water rail it was kept? Image supplied by Raceline is below As you can see they're running the over flow from the 'stat housing into an overflow bottle down near the headlight. This system looks like a simpler set up and would reduce potential future failure points, so I'm throwing this to the WSCC experts - keep the expansion tank on the scuttle, or set up as per raceline?   22. My much-loved Westfield SEiW is for sale. Excellent car, set up for performance, agility and every day driveability. I’ve owned it for a few years and it’s always been reliable, even for touring. I'm told it was set up and corner weighted by Northampton motorsport. The car has an age-related H plate but was completed and registered in 2007. It’s been well looked after, always garaged and due to lack of weather gear, used only in dry conditions. It currently has 12,462 miles on the clock (might change due to use) and MOT until 11th August 2018. I have a large box of paperwork and receipts. I've tried to include detailed photos, but let me know if there's anything you want included that isn't there. The car is based in Norwich and is yours for £9,000 ono. Lockable V8 bonnet with black mesh cutouts at rear of engine bay. Engine/Transmission: 2005 Ford Zetec 2L – Mileage of engine is approx. 60k. Weber Carbs recently serviced and set up (2017). Raceline Water Rail. Uprated engine bolts. New lightweight battery installed (2017), continually connected to trickle charger to maintain optimum charge. New water pump (2017). New cambelt (2017). New radiator (2017). Type 9 gearbox. Engine immobiliser. Repackable exhaust – repacked within last 1000 miles. Black exhaust cover. I have receipts for more uprated engine parts but I can’t verify whether they were installed as I’ve never broken down the engine. Interior: Comfort Westfield seats, mounted on rails for adjustable position. I’m 6ft 4” and quite wide; the car is still comfortable to drive. Carpets throughout. Floor mounted adjustable pedal box. Heater. VDO Gauges – Speed, Revs, Fuel, Engine Temp, Oil Pressure. Standard switchgear for lights, wipers, water spray, heater, horn, indicators. SPARCO suede steering wheel attached to gold 6-bolt pop-off mount on an Allegro steering column. Engine immobiliser. SABELT 4-point harnesses. Westfield full size side doors. Westfield wet weather hood frame (no hood included, I’ve never used it in wet weather). Suspension/Wheels: GAS adjustable suspension. M16 brake callipers (new calliper installed last year). Brake discs front and rear. 4 x Team Dynamics 15” wheels in black. R888 tyres – 205/50 R15 all round. Spare rear-mounted wheel with Westfield cover (not a matching Team Dynamics wheel). Extension number plate for rear-mounted spare wheel. Bad bits: I like to be up front about things so there's no surprises. As with any car, especially this type, there's always something that can improved upon, but this Westfield is in genuinely good shape. Here's a list of the things I've noticed that I'd want mentioned if I was buying: Both front wheel bearings have a little play, but nothing major. These will need doing at some point. MOT advisories. The tyres are down to the minimum tread so will need to be replaced soon. MOT Advisories. I haven't done it as you might want different tyres. There is a crack in the rear bodywork where the number plate extension bar passes through. It's not huge, nor structural. I've included pictures. There is a small hole in the driver's seat bolster. It's a few mm square so nothing to particularly worry about. I've included pictures. Air filter for Webers is scuffed where the bonnet goes on and off. Some of the engine pipework could do with replacing/upgrading but everything works fine and I haven't had any issues.

  24. New visitor here. Mark from Oxfordshire. I have an orange and black complete Zetec SE kit on order and I should be picking it up in two weeks time ( fingers crossed weather etc). This is my second build, sort have got a rather expensive build habit forming. I have to confess I embraced the dark side first, I assembled a Caterham 160 in 2016 / 2017. All IVA'd and great fun on road and track, looking forward to the challenge of assembling the Westy 2 Litre, the test drive was great so looking forward to 150 BHP vs 80 BHP. House rule is I can keep the 160 till the Westy is IVA'd after that I have to decide which I like best and sell the other, not looking forward to that decision, but we have to eat apparently. Spec for westy. Wide front track, 4 point harness, MSA Roll Bar, Heater, Half hood, sidescreens, Turbo seats, westy calipers, stone guards. Will do a youtube channel for the westy build and link it to this forum if that is allowed. Did a youtube channel for 160 build if anybody interested https://youtu.be/LLMKo96xB4w No pipe bending. simple wiring and fewer rivets, so I am expecting more fun with Westy build. Ah well better book the Luton. Just one question. Are Westfield reliable with collection date ? They keep saying 16 March, should I expect a last minute delay ? Regards
  25. Just wanted to say Hi to the forum, and present my car. I bought it 2 months ago, as a track car. Glad to be in the forum, lots of good technical info and good to be in touch with other owners! I live in Spain and as you can imagine these cars are very rare here. The previous owner could not give me much information about the cars history, I am discovering it as I go along. Its a LHD seiw with a 2.0 zetec engine, type 9 gearbox, rusty spax shocks, discovery ap calipers, a revcounter and not much more And now some pics!!!
