Hi, I need to get the water pump replaced on by C20XE, so I'm looking for some advice. I'm not having any luck getting a garage to do it for me, as I wasn't feeling that confident and needed a quick turn around, but it looks like its going to be a DIY job after all. Its an early redtop and I have the pulley and belt kit, so i just need to source a pump, so, my questions are 1. any advice on pumps as I read there are plastic and metal impeller types, also some claiming to have heavy duty bearings; also advice on a good retailer 2. Does the seal require any sealant, hylomar or similar etc 3. I want to replace the front main seal (its leaking a little) - so any tips for that would be help full given its location 4. Any tips on setting the belt tension given I don't have the recommended tool, that said, the Haynes manual offers a couple of alternative methods for measurement 5. and lastly, I like the look of the exposed cams belt and pulley (covers removed), although not sure how practical it is for road use; debris getting caught up etc, but wondered if someone could tell me what modifications are required to do it As always, any help and advice is warmly welcome

Hi all, Had some rolling road work done today and the car popped a hose due to the high revs, this hasn't caused any problem except that something now squeals intermittently. My thought is water pump and the only thing to do is change it, however I thought it may be the alternator as it probably got wet during the hose incident. Questions are, how do I find the source of the squeal as it only does it when driving i.e. I can't make it do it on command and if it is the water pump how do I identify which one I have? The car was factory built in 2004 but I'm told was re-built in 2012 with a TVR 4.0 litre cross bolted block. Thanks all, in the meantime I'm going to WD40 the alternator to see if that does anything. Cheers Dave
