  1. Hello all, I am not sure how I didn't find this forum a while ago when I purchased my Westfield last year but here I am! I have a 1990 SE across the pond in the US and I am in the process of rebuilding the car to a drivable state. (I'd love to upload an image here but it appears I can only attach images through URL's, what's the proffered method for doing this here?) My Westfield started its life in California with the soul from a first generation Ford Capri as the donor car. It presumably lived this way until the previous owner had unfortunately blown up the old cologne 2.6 that was in it. I believe it has a type 9 5 speed transmission and I can't remember off of the top of my head the specific rear end. In the US there isn't really any aftermarket for the cologne V6s, especially the very rare 2.6L so finding parts to rebuild proved to be quite difficult. At the end of the day I would have a quite heavy 100hp at best boat anchor. This lead me to sell the 2 cologne motors (One was blown up and the other needed machine work done as well) to a very happy first generation capri owner. Now I am planning to go to a BEC route, I am thinking of going the Hayabusa as I presume there might be some existing megabusa parts floating around out there. If not, I know the aftermarket for the busa is quite extensive so its likely that someone else makes what I am looking for besides very Westfield specific parts. I still have a few other projects ahead of the Westfield unfortunately, but I am determined to liquidate some of them to get the cash and time to focus on this for 2026. However I would like to get a head start on the parts list needed to make this project a success, and I have a few questions. One of the main concerns of things I likely wont be able to make myself is the headers, does anyone have a megabusa header lying around that they wouldn't mind parting with? Or know which aftermarket header is most Westfield friendly? Honestly if there is a good place to find the driveshaft items (spline adapter and preffered driveshaft to use as a donor?) I've seen people using E46 driveshafts for this, that would be convenient as between myself and my friends we have a lot of E46 and E36 parts and cars lying around. I also need seats, my car unfortunately came without them. I see someone here has a Tillett B3.5 for sale. Is that something you would recommend for both the driver and passenger? I imagine my fiancé would prefer a more comfort oriented option if possible, however I do imagine that is a tall ask for something like this. I know it'll never be her favorite car lol. Thanks in advance, I'll definitely have more questions after I get off of work. Just figured I'd write something simple on my lunch break after I got the account activation email!

  2. I’ll definitely share more on the forum after winter. So far, after several heavy snowfalls and frosts of around minus ten to minus fifteen degrees Celsius, it seems to be coping better — snow is easier to knock off it. With the Carcoon, I’m always afraid I’ll tear the outer cover material with a brush. The material here is noticeably thicker. Basically, it looks exactly like the CarBubble Outdoor https://carbubble.uk/product/outdoor_car_bubble/ but the total cost was edit : approx 350 USD (almost half of that was shipping — did I mention how heavy it is? ). Pluses: – You can choose any dimensions you want, as well as colours, add a “window”, etc. Minuses: – Louder fans (there are two, but I use only one and it’s OK but still louder than really silent Carcoon). Plus or minus - depends : – The zip is positioned lower than on the current Carcoon (older had also low positioned) . Plus: easier to drive in and out. Minus: you have to bend your back more to zip and unzip it.

  3. Yes, I have exactly the same assumptions. On top of that, I’ve got a bit too deep into kit cars — with only one small garage, I currently have three Carcoons standing on my driveway It’s definitely much cheaper than building another garage, although during the season, when I drive often, the constant zipping up and unzipping can be tiring / annoying. If the one from China turns out to offer good protection as well, it’s a much cheaper alternative. It definitely has a better lock, although the material is noticeably heavier.

  5. Certainly an image not front recent driving, but better late… This one taken from a photographer in the Dolomites early last September during a long weekend activity. The photographer took this one while we drove up to Passo Giau…

  6. In nearly 30 years I've never applied any chassis protection apart from localised touch up. I've only repainted the front and rear wishbones a number of times.

  9. I based mine on not having a garage local car storage facility would cost over £1000 for 4 months storage if my carcoon only lasted 3 years that would be £200 per year as it cost £600 to me that's a huge saving then buy another.

  16. My home-built project that needs an owner who will actually use it. Time to accept I gave no thought what I'd do with it once I'd built it..... A common refrain from me, "we have 3 cars but barely need 1". In 2023 the Midlana went to the MOT & back and that was it. Last year Vickie 'encouraged' me to use the car more so we did get out in it once or twice, which I enjoyed, but the truth is I just have no use for it as I am practically a recluse these days. So, as the saying goes, 'genuine reason for sale'. It's not a 'good' reason, but it is true. £12,500 If the asking price is achieved, sale will include a bunch of spares etc as follows. Engine gaskets, spare set of used ignition coils, spare throttle pedal pot, spare MAF, spare suspension parts, spare diff (used but good), camlocks for the V6, plus any other pertinent bits (spare wiper motor, spare dash clusters etc). Will include all the templates I used for making the body panels, screen template, assorted 3D printed parts files to recreate them if required. Car currently has inertia belts but will include harnesses as shown in the shot below. Spare master cylinders. If the asking price is not achieved, none of the above listed parts will be included but can be purchased separately. Last time I sold a kit I practically gave it away, along with lots of valuable parts. Won't be doing that again. (Added for clarity, no spares will be offered for sale unless the car sells below asking price. If that happens, any left over will be advertised separately.) Can be viewed any time by arrangement. A few pictures so you have an idea what it is: Very briefly: Car has MX5 NA front & rear uprights, front suspension is double wishbone with inboard vertical dampers with rockers & pushrods, rear is lower semi-trailing arm and upper wishbone. All suspension joints are 1/2" rod ends or larger, or spherical bearings in cups. Pro-tech 1.9" dampers. Steering rack is MX5 (currently a de-powered PAS rack, was originally a manual rack but I found this a bit 'slow'). Front brakes are Wilwood Midilite with Focus ST 300mm vented discs, rears are Hyundai i30N calipers with BMW JCW Mini vented 316mm discs. Wilwood pedalbox and master cylinders. Engine is a stock Alfa Busso 3.0 V6 taken from a 1999 Alfa 166 so makes around 220bhp/200lbft. Gearbox is a 6 speed from a 156 V6 for the shorter diff ratio. ECU is stock from the donor 166 so includes working cruise control and passes a CAT test with ease (although it doesn't need one at MOT being a Q plate). Instruments are modified Alfa 166. Loom is mostly derived from the donor car and retains all the original switchgear and functions, including the Alfa CODE engine immobiliser system integrated into the ECU. Dash has a home-brew fuel gauge calibrator to match it to the Exige fuel tank & sender, which makes it accurate. JK Composites seats. Since first building it and getting the IVA in March 2021, I've fitted LED headlights, put a Sparco steering wheel on it with a QR, swapped out the harnesses for inertia reels and made some suspension mods at the back to add some extra droop travel. Last year while I had the engine out to do the suspension mods, I also fixed an oil leak that had developed, so it had a new cambelt and yet another water pump while it was in bits as well as a complete new set of all oil seals. 18. It's been a good white since I've shared any photos of my car...so it's time I guess! This photo was taken by my wife and while I was autocrossing in a local church parking lot. I like how the big, wide and sticky tires distort under the heavy cornering loads. It's winter here now and snow covers the roads and the Westie is tucked away warm and safe in the shop waiting for the sun to melt the ice. dave
