There’s a number of really good points raised above, but the common thread has to be the engagement & collaboration of WSCL & WSCC for the greater good of each entity - I for one couldn’t justify or desire buying a new one, but I’m really impressed that someone (well the WSCL team) have invested their money, time & commitment to continue the Westfield story. I genuinely believe it can only support WSCC & everyone on here, let alone help to keep/grow the value in our cars on the 2nd hand market - not that I’m selling mine EVER as I hope my grandson can inherit it! In today’s marketplace for a ultra-low volume car-maker, WSCL need both a “cost effective component supply base” and “volume sales”, & those sales cannot just come from the UK alone, WSCL’s existence will surely require numbers to be sold overseas & I’m praying they come along very soon (although the thought of a future home build kit form - maybe a “hybrid“ instead of purely component form, to have option like when SEights were only sold as a “rolling chassis”) would interest a whole new level of buyers rather than £49K outlay. To me, WSCL have brought Se-NA to the market & as far as I’m concerned if it looks like a Westfield, sounds like a Westfield & drives like a new Westfield, then it’s a Westfield - cus there aren’t many/any Standard Westy’s out there! I’ve got everything crossed that Se-NA will be a massive success, WSCL deserve that & look forward to seeing the car in the flesh in the near future. 👏 Well done to Nigel & all the team in Bicester, and here’s to a much brighter new future 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝5 points

Have recently moved back to the UK from the south of Spain and was thinking about picking myself up a weekend car so I can go out driving around the country roads and start attending some shows, based in Newport Pagnell so can get to most places easy enough.. Have always had Japanese sports cars in the past and most recently in Spain had a Nissan 350z but wanted to change things up and bit and get something that is easier to work on and a bit more fun.. So was thinking about a 7 style car and Westfields seem to be the best starting point to get into these types of cars. I am still in the process of extending the drive on my new property and then building a shelter/garage to keep a car in but wanted to do as much research on these as possible and well this seems like the best place haha I guess I was looking for one with a more modern engine so so maybe one with a ford Zetec engine anything over 150bhp really.. but as long as parts are easily available I am good really as I can do most work myself. Prob looking to spend around 10 to 15k don't want to go too crazy on my first one. But yeah wanted to say hi and I am sure I will have some questions that I will pop up in the relevant parts of the forums4 points

Welcome, can only second what the chaps have already said! Your budget is bang on to get a nice tidy well sorted car, that will potentially hold it's value well for years to come. A nice Zetec engined car, on say, Individual Throttle Bodies (ITB) will feel/sound fantastic to drive, with a rawness and real character compared to many (volume manufacturer) production sports car engines. While at the same time, being essentially a Ford Zetec means that most spares/service parts etc for the engine are readily available and well priced, even for quality parts. As Mike said - in the kit world, Q plates are your friend, so I'd actively seek them out where possible - life is so much easier come MoT time, especially if you have a modified and tuned engine. (no cat required, as no actual emissions test, for example, it's just what's known as a "visible smoke" check, which is exactly what it sounds like!4 points

I think the new Se.Na is fantastic and throughly enjoyed the video. As much as the thought of building my own appeals to me, at the moment I don’t have the time or the space, so a turnkey car would be perfect. The price (as someone who has recently purchased a used Westfield) seems high to my limited budget, but does seem to be good value compared to its peers, and in the age of £50k + VW Golfs I guess isn’t far off the mark. What the £50k Golf has in its favour is compelling finance offers and I think this will be key for Westfield at this price point. The majority of cars sold these days aren’t £50k - they’re £5k deposit and £300 per month or whatever. I enquired about a Caterham before buying my car, and they’re now offering PCP deals. With the ridiculous residual values on them, it made an interesting proposition. I’m not the target market for a new Westfield so won’t comment further, other than to say thank you to the new owners at WSCL and wish them every success. P.S - if WSCL read this and would like someone to long term test some of those new carbon Tillett seats I’d be happy to volunteer 🥰4 points

A few years ago I got this company to make some made to measure bags for me. I have a bag that's a perfect fit for my SEIW boot. It's slightly padded and really useful to help use the space to the max. Plus it was only around £30. It means you can just fill the bag with tools and whatever and just lift it all in / out. I've also got a bag to store the doors, and bags to slot behind the seats up against the bulk head. I'd say they are a functional well made quality rather than luxury bags, but they serve the purpose perfectly. The doors bag is breathable so it's fine if the doors are not totally dry when you store them. https://www.midwater.co.uk/2 points

Great thanks all and especially about the Q plates I shall keep an eye out for local events as yeah would be great to actually come and see some in the flesh.2 points

Sound advice on a tin top, or heavily modified tin top. But kit's are different, in this world, it's the complete opposite. If anyone is using the Q plate bad argument in the kit world* they either have some other motive/bias, or they just don't know/understand kits. *the exception would be cars like Caterhams, which do suffer a slightly lower value on Q's, but they're a unicorn in the kit world, in that most are bought as turn key cars from the factory, or as full - all parts supplied, "knock down" versions - but the build your own side has reduced a lot in the past decade or two. In fact Caterham themselves, and certainly many owners, would not even consider themselves as kits any more.2 points

Hi Caldrin, welcome to Club.... 🙂 there's lots of research answers on the Forum and if there's something specific just ask and you'll get several answers/opinions. A good shout is to go along to your local meet, at this time of the year you'll still see hardened owners out in theirs to see first hand, possibly get a ride out and a feel for them... things like space, fixed/removal steering wheels, full screen/aero-screen, roll-bar v cage, wheels 13/15", tyres, track/road, and on and on.... car shows are still happening too but the big one is next May - Malvern Kit Car show where's there's 100 plus Westy's attending and loads of fanatics to talk too... Good look with the search/research and hope to see you posting photos of your car soon.2 points

Hi thanks all. Oh a q plate the little research i had already done said prob best to stay away from them but will not do that then I cant access those articles at the moment I guess you need to be a paid up member.2 points
-
Oh, and we have some handy articles in the FAQ, some are a bit older, but most of the info in them is just as relevant, now. Here's a few to start with. There's more detailed ones too, on specifics, like telling different models apart, though in your budget, you'd probably be looking more at the two current body styles; the traditional looking ZK, or the more modern looking FW.2 points

Hi and welcome! You'll see plenty of nice cars in the 10-15K budget - it's a good price to pay in my opinion because that's the depreciation-proof range and you should buy on condition and spec, not age. Look for fuel injection, a good gearbox and diff - then anything else can be changed/ upgraded around that. Oh, and don't be put off by Q plates - they bring a huge advantage at MOT time with no awkward emission requirements! Mike2 points

Welcome. Westfield ownership has greatly enhanced my life. Go for it. @Chris Emm is thinking of selling his due to a bad back making driving it difficult. Really well sorted, reliable and highly maintained car. I think it is £10500 based in Worksop. He sometimes doesn’t look at the forum so if you are interested, drop me a note and I’ll wake him up 😁2 points

Hello All, October is approaching and the meet is this Sunday, 5th. Sorry to say I won't be able to make it this time as I'm away this should not stop the meet going ahead though, hopefully I'll see you in November. Also it's time to start considering our December meet which will be the Christmas meal meet. The first Sunday of December falls on the 7th but quite often we've moved the December meet to the Saturday which would be the 6th. I'm also proposing we do what we've done the last couple of years and have the meet at The Vine in Wombourne. Let me have your thoughts preferences etc by the November meet so it can be booked in plenty of time. Thanks Rhett 7pm, 5th October at the Dudley Arms, Himley. DY3 4LB.1 point

For ages I have been looking for a way of storing tools, tyreweld, compressor, scissor jack, spare throttle cables, etc. in the FW boot so the collection of seemingly random items I carry don't slosh around.... I also wanted the ability to easily take things out when I'm at trackdays. After a few pointless purchases that didn't do the job, I stumbled across some cheap bags when buying some DIY stuff from my local Toolstation. Thankfully in real life they are actually black rather then green! The 450mm slots in nicely (if you don't have it too full) in the smaller lower portion of the boot, and the 750mm sits above it below the lid. You could probably use two 750's if you felt really flush and wanted to spend the extra two hundred pence. The 750mm even accommodated the large PX600 airbox I used for trackday noise reduction. They aren't the last word in quality, but its a "first world problem" solved for just 12 quid! My Scottish genes are very satisfied 😂1 point

I think @Rednop1 has one for sale. I changed mine this time last year to give me more time between refuelling on track. Getting fuel in is a challenge due the filler neck orientation though! I never had a boot box, so I didn’t miss the lost space.1 point

Welcome! Some great advice here from everyone as usual! As others have said, get along to see some cars and owners, then make a list of "must haves" that suit how you want to use the car (weekend tourer, fast road, track days, etc) as it is rare to find two cars with identical specs! Focus on the big stuff (engine, gearbox, diff etc) as the rest can be changed to suit your tastes quite easily. Good luck with the search and just shout up if you need help or advice 👍1 point

Either this, or someone that turns over lots of scrapped Westfields like this, so has a heap of parts they can bodge it back together with, give it a quick dusting of paint, and punt it out to the first person that doesn’t look too closely. No names, for the obvious legal reasons, but anyone on the forum long enough will be aware of at least one (commercial) operation like this.1 point

Thanks, Being an ex mechanic I know really the reality is you can't do much without spare parts, maybe the spare oil, 1L fuel & water are best and like others say breakdown cover, ill know a little kit together that takes up less space than what I currently have1 point

I wrote some stuff about the pics I just posted, but the words have disappeared, along with my comb I think. Despite feeling a little bullied by some today, it was a brilliant day out with some lovely people, though some are a little cruel at times. Lovely chat as ever about the usual stuff. Engines and cake, cake and sperm banks, nothing out of the ordinary. Hope you(or Becky) have cleaned up your little accident Mr Gilbert! Thanks for organising another terrific day Julie & Glen. Look forward to the next one guys 👍1 point

Meeting somewhere North of Nuneaton were 5 Westfield's. The sunshine totally ruined my photo so Iam hoping someone else has a better one. Cupola Cafe car park Cold, clear air combined with sunshine on the back country lanes made for an excellent run out. I might have forgotten a turn and ended up on a different route but no-one noticed and it worked out better than planned. That landed us at Chatsworth Garden Centre for lunch, where Chris and Mo were waiting for us. Chris gave us the upsetting news that his back is no longer conducive to driving the Westfield and it is now up for sale. Look out for it coming up in the For Sale section, it's a well maintained one with lots of history of it's reliability documented on here, as it has been used in the Peak District for the last decade. Here we are in Chatsworth, thankfully Ian had sorted his hair out before we let him loose in front of the lens This one is called Andy, that means he is capable of eating lots, it seems to be a thing in the Peak District. A full English, followed by fish and chips eh Meaning we then needed dessert and with that sun still putting it out we were not in a rush to go home Look at 'em, like vultures they are A hilarious day out in a wonderful part of the world. It was our first cold one and it really makes me look forward to the next season, snuggling down into the Westfield all wrapped up, electric clothing on, no caravans/tourists, less cyclists and searching out the real fires in the pub, bring on winter. See you all next time and thanks for coming everyone, hope you've enjoyed it too XXXX1 point

Indeed. I reported said firm to the H&SE after viewing a video of theirs on YouTube jet washing the underside of a Westfield while it was suspended 7’ up by a forklift. The idiot jet washing it was standing completely underneath it, an extremely dangerous practice as forklift truck hydraulics don’t have anti-burst valves. If the hydraulics had failed in any way, the forks and car would drop unchecked and he would have been killed in a second.0 points
