  2. I went out for the first proper drive ever (after 600 miles) by myself. Glorious sunshine and decent roads. Maybe I enjoyed myself too much, as 'Life360' (the app we use to keep track of family members) reckoned I had 35 'risky events' over 47 miles...😬. I ended up at my usual haunt (Elstree Aerodrome) for a cup of coffee. One day I'll find a nice vintage aeroplane for the XI to pose against 😃.

  3. I asked ChatGPT for an image of my car with a full FIA roll cage fitted. Not sure it got this quite right! 🤣

  5. “Classic Flying Carrot, first you’re handing out rosettes, next you’re plotting world domination. We’ll keep an eye on you at the next WSCC meet… just in case the buffet goes missing!” 🥕😅. AI response 😂😂

  11. I am glad he is up and running Al... that is definitely a mess and would explain the oil everywhere.. I wouldn't know what went first however the damage on the piston looks more like fragment damage rather than detonation? Hopefully I will be back on track end of September..it has been me taking time to mend rather than the car!

  12. I'm no expert but personally I would not risk that. Mine is a 2.0 blacktop Zetec but running the same boost. I have armoured con rods, ARP rod bolts, forged pistons, heavy duty big end and main bearings and heavy duty valve springs. Also ARP flywheel bolts. Different engine I know, but I'd still be cautious.

  13. Almost two years late, but I've managed to get my 40th birthday present sorted: A flight experience at Goodwood, in their Harvard. I had an amazing time, and got to fly her for maybe 5 mins whilst we were up,followed by a suitable amount of aerobatics. It turns out, if you don't clench hard enough, you really can start to grey out at the bottom of a 4g loop. 😮 Quick in-flight selfie: The view out over the wing, showing Thorney Island: An ever so slightly adrenaline filled me: I may take up wearing flight suits, as they're rather slimming.

  15. I thought I’d posted this after our track day at Donington on 2nd July. My car ran faultlessly and was great fun throughout the afternoon and evening sessions. Sadly, @Mole’s day was cut short by a cracked chassis, which meant we couldn’t all get out on track together. My friend didn’t have the best of luck either — while I was following him down the Wheatcroft Straight, his car decided to empty all of its engine oil onto the circuit! Second-hand engine sourced and now back in the car. Good job they are nice and cheap! The old setup was running 1 bar of boost on a standard bottom end, with the exception of MaXpeeding rods. The new engine is completely standard — my mate reckons that should still be fine for 1 bar of boost? I’m not so sure after looking at the photos above! 🤦‍♂️ Question for those more knowledgeable (I’m keen to learn): 1) Detonation / pre-ignition? 2) Piston ring gaps too tight? 3) IATs too high? 4) Something else?
