  2. My son and I fitted my FIA cage in a weekend. Fitted four eye bolts into some 4x2 cross beams, feed some rope through and hoisted the cage over the car. Lined it all up, marked on masking tape and checked, then checked again. Pilot drilled the key fixings front first and all was good. I decided to weld in the side impact bars in, rather than bolt as it was a neater job and avoided drilling yet more holes in chassis box section. All in all pretty straightforward. Definitely stiffens up the chassis. In terms of getting in and out.... yes you've gotta be pretty flexible... Mines lowered floors and id say for me a detachable steering wheel is mandatory. That said I'm overweight, 65y old, 6ft 2 inches but still can get in and out reasonably OK. Not sure for how many more years though πŸ€”. Getting in, is left leg in first, head up through the hole in roll cage, grab the top, right foot in and lower your bum into the seat. Getting out is trickier, head up through the gap, right leg out, duck under and left leg out... I'll have to video the manoeuvre, it'll make for some good laughs πŸ˜ƒ

Fast, fun, and guaranteed to put a bigger smile on your face than a bacon butty on a Sunday morning. πŸ₯“πŸŽοΈ πŸ“ Catch him at Silverstone Festival this weekend – ready to drive home with you! If you fancy owning a proper head-turner that loves corners more than a whippet loves chasing rabbits, give us a shout. πŸ‡πŸ’¨ part exchange for beer considered. 🍺 πŸ“² DM to make Westus yours.

  7. We had our meet up this evening. Roger who lives near me in Andover came along. He has a small collection of Duttons. He has been using one a lot recently as his daily Rover needed work for the MOT. It passed yesterday so he came along in that. Stuart who owns a very nice Westfield also came along. I haven't seen any other Westfields recently so it was interesting to see another one parked next to mine. The Pub was nice but reasonably busy. I might have to research other local pubs to see what else is around. I've had interest from a couple of Robin Hood owners so it might be worth moving to somewhere more central. I completely forgot to take pictures, sorry.

  9. For me no down sides to a full cage, stiffens the chassis, full roll over protection, somewhere to haul yourself out, and best of all daughter can use it as a ballet bar πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Custom cage made to a very high standard, in a bigger diameter tube than the msa cage. And the The ballet bar, 2nd position apparently πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I have just thought of a downside to a full cage.....the amount of flies and bugs that get splattered on it!

  17. If anyone is interested, the Knebworth Classic Car Show is taking place this bank holiday Sunday/ Monday at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire. It's a lovely secure setting in the house grounds with some interesting attendees in the past, including Ronart, Dax, Jag D-Type and the Grinnel Scorpion club. I'll be taking the XI there on the Monday (assuming serviceability). https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fshare.google%2FEKkVv5QccjtlTZRa4&data=05|02||d3d6ff2397bd4426aa1f08dde09eafbd|84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa|1|0|638913694353739134|Unknown|TWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D|0|||&sdata=i4VHqFBmIHMUO5FnCPoK4Wx4t70UnVNNwuhSxOYYclE%3D&reserved=0

  20. That's the petty bar. I've seen it used with rollbars to strengthen the chassis, not sure how useful it is with a full cage πŸ€” That cage looks very robust tho, but I'm quite sure it isn't FIA homologated, so there is really no point on getting it instead of the Caged/Westfield one which is.

  21. I’ll let the owner @marcusbshare that story. First he has to realise I’ve put his car up for sale!🀣🀣

  22. I've been in contact with a couple of others that live in the area and we are going to have a trial meeting. Although I am calling it the Wiltshire meeting I want to try and fill the gap between Surrey, South Hampshire, Dorset and Bristol. We have decided to go to a local pub between Romsey and Andover called the Mayfly which is just outside Stockbridge. I don't think the pub would appreciate 100's of kit cars turning up without notice but if anyone else is interested in coming along let me know. Thanks, Steve.

  27. Folk just don’t realise that a Q plate never devalues (or stigmatises) a kit car like it would a tin-top. In fact it can only increase it’s desirability as MOTs get stricter and testers will be less likely to fudge the results πŸ‘

  30. My guess is it will depend upon which Superlight model, I'm sure there were a few different ones. This may shed light on the 'real' weight though..... 2019 Caterham 270R Racing Blog: What does a 'Superlight' R500 Duratec weigh? https://share.google/v9HVucoIXNOO7GqF1

  31. Saw you today at Castle Combe! I think you half waved at me as you were trundling down the entry road from Avon Bridge to go on track but I may have imagined that πŸ˜‚ I'm not sure if we've met before, I've met so many kit owners now that I do sometimes forget who's who! It was blooming hot wasn't it! Everyone seemed to have a good day though, hope you went well?
