I missed this the first time, but no, the yellow (with white stripe) Westie is not a narrow body, but one with fixed rear arches. I wouldn't have fitted in a narrow body (I did try!).3 points

My SEiGHT has about 210bhp, and weighs around 800kg as is very much road/touring orientated currently. Still roars like thunder and spits flames from the twin side pipes, so quite amusing.3 points

Would be interesting to measure the width and compare it with the figures in the post I linked to. The arches definitely look much wider.2 points

My tyre size is same too, 205s. I guess this is all just part of the wonderful world of Westfield! There seem to be so many weird variants that I suspect no one person has seen them all or knows about all of them?2 points

Yes, exactly. I got some thinner than normal duct tape and it's been perfect, no issues.2 points

No, I ran both wires down to the rear clusters, to ensure a good earth. I got a Hella light, a smoked grey one and the cable it came with was nice and neat. Opening it up wouldn't have made much sense or made it any neater.1 point

So, one possible conclusion then is that earlier wide-bodied cars had narrower rear arches than later widebodies? Anyone know anything more?1 point
-
Mine is the same as that yellow one, it's a fixed arch wide body from 1996 vintage1 point
-
Also just looked under the rear wheel arch at the reverse side of the lights there's no square cut out so maybe the yellow body is alot older than my 09 version which may never have had the rectangular light and would guess Steve's doesn't either as his looks identical to mine.1 point

The more I look at the picture the more I think I think @Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somersetis correct and it's lens distortion on the left hand side.1 point

Mine is a fixed arch widebody, no cut outs though! Well, not that I can see. Maybe they are covered by the style of rear lights I have?1 point

I estimate it at between 650 and 670 based on a single-axle council weighing station and my own in-garage corner weighing. Need to get it checked to be sure but it sure as hell ain't 620 or 600!1 point

Or maybe it's my arches? They look a lot wider than the narrow body's ones to me.1 point

I’m keeping the deflectors for now. Just in case I need the car to help with ploughing this year!1 point
-
I think you’re right. the square cut-outs in the tub next to the rear lights suggest it’s a fixed arch wide body.1 point

How much is yours? I'm hoping to stay below 600kg with mine (without cage) but looks like it won't be that light unfortunately...1 point
-
Looking at this, the difference is only about 8cm, so I suspect lens distortion on the camera is making it appear more. If you look at the width of the parking spaces, the left one is stretched quite a bit more, and phone camera lenses tend to stretch the image towards the edge.1 point

Me neither, I used 3m VHB tape, it's solid and has stood up the the fitting of my half hood no problem. I feel safer having a high level light.1 point
-
Same, that's why I went this way (I also have a half hood that wouldn't work easily with a cage mount).1 point

Polishing your car in retirement just like Glen, it's a good way to keep active and the results are rewarding!1 point

Is it spring time already? You been out ploughing the fields? 😄1 point

That's surprisingly light my megablade rocks in at 520kg with tank of fuel is the engine mainly alloy on the v81 point

Is it on injection or carbs ? If I traded across from my zetec I'd be looking at a Seight1 point

I'm not sure there is a standard but mine is 620kg wet weight and puts out 238bhp (stage 2 3.9 with lightened and balanced internals- so it spins up very quickly for a RV8). I don't have any weather gear, heater or boot box and a fair number of lighter parts than might be standard though. It feels like a big car to drive in some ways but I would say that whilst it may not handle quite as sharply as a BEC it is by no means the lardy lump some commenters on the internet would have you think. Maybe in full touring set up it would be getting nearer 900kg? Power can range from a standard 3.5 at ~170bhp to 5.2 with 460+bhp. For me its the torque from low revs that makes it feel slightly different to other normally aspirated 7s, in my opinion, and the soundtrack. Mine may be slightly compromised in terms of ground clearance but the underslung exhausts do sound great. Hope that helps?1 point

Talking of April Fools Day, did any of you see the Jack Webb Motorsport post on FB about their new 4 seater Caterham? 😂1 point

I've never been in a V8 Westie. Sometimes I do wonder if the rest of us are missing out on something great here! Two quick questions for anyone who knows, how much does one weigh and what sort of power are they putting out when fairly standard?1 point

The sounds are very much like the dampers coming to the end of there stroke…. To control the suspension bringing it to a controlled stop in 10mm vs 50mm requires a lot more damping, which would be detriment to the ride quality previously enjoyed. Also if the damper is topping out the wheel will be unloading from the road, not following the road’s profile.. The dampers supplied are standard length for the rear. I have come across cars needing shorter dampers on the rear but non longer needing longer. I try not to stay awake at night thinking about these things. These are kit cars and sometimes they are as special and unique as we are. There are other things which sometimes make noises too which get blamed on the dampers or happen change when ride hight changes…. Handbrake cables now taping something, drive shafts not being fairly horizontal and bouncing between the joints as the wheels go up and down. These are just a few fairly random things I’ve some across on various cars. Even an intermittent rattle which turned out to be a fuel float… As said we can extend the damper tops to increase the open length of the damper if required. as regards to coating the threads.. There is always a compromise of grease/copperslip/waxoil attracting dirt or keeping them dry. People have very absolute views on what to do. But if it’s a dry use car it largely does not matter. Ians car is used in al weathers. I prefer the grease the threads with copperslip. Once the hight has been set cleaning the exposed thread just to make it look clean. If the body’s are aluminium or steel and plating it’s important not to damage the coating on the damper as it leads to damper damage.. grit will.. so will turning the collars if loaded dry damage the coating. On the Spax dampers the thread is stainless steel. But the anodized spring seats are aluminium so there is potential for corrosion between the two if not protected. The spring seat is sacrificial not the damper. The seats can be cut and split, the stainless cleaned up as it’s not at all compromised and new seats fitted.1 point

I have wind deflectors, but am not convinced they do much, other than look cool. It’s still so windy that any benefit on that front is negligible at best. Had them on for a year or two, but off for the last couple of years. They are currently in the locker with other Westy goodies such as: Go-Pro - never been used/fitted. Boot-top touring/luggage bag - never been used/fitted. Standard roll bar - never been fitted. Harness seatbelts - removed to be replaced by inertia reel belts. Full hood - never fitted, needs poppers attached. Half hood. Had it three years, used it twice. Set of original V8 wheels - replaced with minilites. Not to mention the covered trailer - not used since the car arrived in it about 5 years ago. Yet I still find myself browsing the parts-for-sale section in case there are other things I probably won’t use or fit that I’d like to buy!1 point

Many thanks for your advice @John Dolan - Wirral & North Wales AO. It's a pass for another pre cat engine on twin Webers. Just got to wait on DVSA now. Thanks also to the wider WSCC community, as there is some really valuable advice and support on this forum - real credit to you all! Absolutely buzzing now.1 point

Hi folks, I'm a newby member. Bought my 2000 kit build SE Narrow as a resto project from Bangers and Cash almost exactly 2 years ago. I'm an old fart, well into pensioner age and this was acquired as a 'memory lane' project having, in my late twenties, briefly owned an S2 Lotus 7 wearing 'The Prisoner' make-up. Upon collection from Pickering, closer inspection of the more or less stock 1600 Kent revealed that it had visibly blown a core plug and the decision was therefore made to carry out a 'zero hour' restoration on the whole car. The chassis was in pretty good nick for an exclusively track day'd car but everything else was tired. So, what have we done last year, this year, this week and today? Rear axle and brakes have been totally reworked with Quaife ATB LSD. Type 9 gearbox has been totally reworked. Front brakes are now Wilwood 4 pot. Rad has been flushed and restored. Engine build has been in the capable hands of Roger at Aldon Automotive in Brierley Hill, the work starting with a bare block chemical clean. Build has lightened flywheel, balanced and uprated bottom end and HD Helix clutch. Also has 244 cam, Duplex Vernier with access cover, Burton 2A big port/big valve head, HP oil pump, Samco hoses, Facet fuel pump, pressure regulator, new twin 45 DCOE's on Mangoletsi, uprated water pump with new alternator and Gates Tooth belt drive, Aldon electronic ignition and throwback lighting including headlight baskets and Lucas 1130 Torpedo sidelights. Car is in Westfield BRG with now of course, an LO7 yellow nosecone! Proper screen is waiting in my workshop together with wiper kit. Home made screen pillars (aka original Carbuilder/Lotus 7 style) yet to be formed from 5mm sheet ally. Stainless sheet ready to be English Wheeled to fit rear arches. Original Federal tyres had aged to consistency of concrete and (experimentally) replaced with Davanti Protoura road/track boots from Demon Tweeks. Bookend shots were at Bangers & Cash. Work in progress pics were taken at Aldon at beginning of year. Cost? Enough to initiate divorce procedings if my management finds out. Plans? Well here's a clue. I live 6 miles from Shelsley Walsh. Plus a mandatory photo shoot at Portmeirion! Best, NotMcGoohan1 point
