Just a reminder, it's our monthly meet this Thursday, now the nights have drawn in, and the weather is on the turn, time to move inside the Golden Pheasant to plot and scheme the winter upgrades, and think of places to go and things to do when the days lengthen again!2 points

I am looking to meet up this weekend IF the weather is amenable, at The Tea Junction, Hulme End, SK17 0EZ, 10am. The plan is to have breakfast, go for a run out and finish with lunch/cake in a warm establishment. Stay posted as this will depend on the weather, I can move to Saturday but will try my best to keep it to Sunday.1 point

SD is a memory card format. Hence why you can buy a USB device than can read SD cards, but you won't be able to convert a SD slot into USB, sorry. Best bet will be to fit new USB sockets to the motherboard but careful soldering and the right sockets will be needed.1 point

The nearside has been spoken for at the moment as I've got someone coming round this week to see if it will fit his Zetec.1 point

My takeaway from that is this: If this is the intention then it looks like it's aimed at things like ad-blue defeat, emissions defeat and other tools or software where the intetnion is to get around emissions or service life or other potentially critical safety or environmental systems. It looks like they want to make it an offence not just to use one of these devices or "black-box" defeats, but to supply one and advertise to supply one will now also be an offence. For the most part I see nothing wrong with this. There are lots of laws where buying or owning xyz is not an offence but using xyz is. These laws never made sense to me because the user had to be caught "in flagrante delicto", so to speak... But here where defeat of these devices can do real harm it seems reasonable they are examined and dumb ones weeded out. Then there is the narrative that all new cars will be fitted with a "black box flight recorder" that can have it's data downloaded at any time. I'm reasonably sure lots and lots of new cars have this capability already, especially those with a SIM card buried in the ECU or the entertainment system that allows the user to receive (for example) BMW Assist (there are others) at the touch of a button. For those of us who might seek to limit "them" from having oversight into our driving habits/location/speed/what colour driving gloves one wears... we might want to disable this in some way. And further down the line where road pricing might be the goal of having the vehicle report it's location, again defeating this capability might be seen as a worthwhile goal. I imagine that because we are talking about data regarding our private and personal journeys there would also need to be some GDPR jiggery pokery to allow for at least some of this consultation to become law so I'd keep a look out on that piece of (massively misunderstood) legislation as well. I mean who wants to be caught by their car when they're visiting the wifes sister? I think I'm going to buy some shares in Uber...1 point

Thanks again for all the advice! I now have a Mk2 1.6 donor car and 3.6 torsen diff. I got a decent deal on the diff, and although it's not a 3.9 as recommended, needing to add a bit of power to make it work better doesn't sound like a bad route to go down either Slowly starting to pull it all apart- getting the uprights free seems to be the hardest part so far!1 point

Just wanted to jump in and add that I can highly recommend the IOM, done it several times in my Westy and being able to drive flat out (in the dry) on public roads, legally is simply awesome. You just have to be respectful of others on the road, be paranoid about the speed limits in towns & villages and keep an eye on your mirrors….being overtaken by a bike doing 200mph+ is quite interesting. We always stay at the Sefton Hotel in Douglas, it’s right in the town, has sea views, is 5mins from the ferry and has an underground car park ! This is the view from the Creg ny Baa1 point
