Sorry - my post seems to have cause people some effort. Im keen to know what counts in S12 from an MSA point of view. It seems that reading the yearbook for the first time in a long long time, that the MSA have had similar thoughts to the SSOT in making more of a one size fits all for the class structure. Many things seem to be free in S.12 even with a conservative reading. I'd like to come play if I can get the car sorted. I probably wouldnt run the 1800 engine although im not sure there is anything preventing it in the rules as they stand. My car in the last 12 years has always run full lights, 2 seats and belts and had an MOT for shakedowns. The only time it didnt have full lights etc was when Mike was double driving it, and invariably it did have that at the start of the day :).4 points

Replace the electronic toys and sequential boxes for talent? They are only worth so much. They will still be running an spaceframed kit car with the same(ish) setup as yours in terms of geometry and with enough added weight to go trough an MOT... Or go out and have fun taking engines in and out... don't really matters what class you are for that, it will have an engine and it can come out anytime as long as you are up to the job. (Sorry, couldn't resist) My main downside in the Speed Series, was that i use to strike my class, and more often than no, I was striking classes running with 1c tyres and jet fighters disguised as a westfield... but that meant nothing, it was an stupid target time in place that was rewarding me with some stupid ninety something points regardless of what the others did... (sorry i will get VERY cocky now)... Now, every single car behind me, will mean something, and every single one in front will... well driver excuse 123/section 2 paragraph 4... "he has traction control". So at least you can have the feel of actually doing something other than going home with glassware for just turning up. Shame will be on them for having a car worth 15k more than yours and only being half a second faster in the launch. Don't underestimate the fact of normalizing the tyres ( and therefore the potential grip you can have to the ground). Those are my thoughts anyway. And if you want to win... you only have 1 single limit!!! BUDGET. Spend more than the others in toys, chose the class wisely, and you'll have the championship regardless of your driving skills. Basically like every other championship that is not FULLY regulated to stock cars.3 points

@neptune I hope you had a productive day and that you get your car sorted sooooon, you would have loved today There is one thing worse than naughtyness and that is pre-meditated naughtyness, my first job when I got home was to check if the spare keys to the Westfield were there AND THEY WERE MISSING @IanK (Bagpuss) You have colluded with Glen in order to turn my car around in the car park while I was innocently ordering lunch, you naughty boys We met at Matlock where Dave bought an old tyre and Ian wore his shorts, oh yes @6carjon shorts! It was 2 degrees this morning Rob Squirrel Nutcase Lee Dave, looking very tyred, with Luke behind Plus Andrew, making 7 cars and 8 people, it's November and these are Westfields so well done guys Proof that Ian wore his shorts Firstly we drove to the recycling centre for Dave to dispose of his spare tyre, if only dieting was that easy. I was watching Ian having fun testing the limits of his T1R's on the quiet little roundabout, he found their limit! We took a route along the big roads, which is unusual for me, but my aim was to keep out of the water, which we did to a large extent, although there were some good puddles in places. I don't know if everyone else saw them (or indeed if they get excited by them) but the big Stag was standing proud over his Doe's in Chatsworth park right next to the road. This is not a photo of them 😀 but it is a photo of Chatsworth park. We arrived at The Anchor for lunch and Glen shouted 'someone's steaming' It was Andrew and his car was indeed dropping it's coolant all over the floor. Try as they may nobody could get the nose cone off, so Andrew called the truck of shame and we all went for lunch in the pub. We were all REVERSE parked in the pub car park, weren't we Mr Bagpuss? Glen? You can just make my car out, at the far end of the row, it's definitely reversed into place. The boys waiting for lunch to arrive Bill joined us, he purchased the Porsche that was advertised here on the club forum and he very kindly bought it to show us. It is even more beautiful than the photos show, 3.2 litre, straight six, mid engined gruntyness. Glen liked it that much he jumped in with him for the next leg of our journey, to travel in warmth, comfort and style, it was fast too. He wasn't missed, my car was 100kg lighter without him, I'll get me coat. All alone I went to my car and look, it had been turned around, how did that happen? Bill and Glen Rob and Lee had to go at this point so thank you for joining us today and hopefully we will see you again. Leaving Andrew to wait for the breakdown truck, we had a good run to Tagg Lane Dairy where they have taken my advice and stocked up on Bakewell cake (normally only found at Wetton). I informed them that BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge are coming right through the Peak District on Tuesday and will be passing their door around lunchtime, just in case they wanted to offer them some ice cream. Parked at Tagg Lane Andy (he who eats a lot) Westwood has taught me to order ice cream with my cake. Our cake does not look as plush as his today though, is that an eclair on top? It's good to see the SORN boys are managing their sugar levels well. Bakewell cake with ice cream After many miserable attempts to steal Ian's steering wheel and after lots of laughs and chats it was time to beat the setting sun and get home early. Bill Luke Ian Dave We have learnt lots today, about shock absorbers, windscreens and all sorts, but the two most important things we have learnt is 1. Make sure your nose cone is removable in a reasonable time frame and with the tools that you carry with you 2. Don't use the AA, even when you tell them that you need a recovery truck they will make you wait 90 minutes for a breakdown van to come and make that decision for you. The sun has shone, the roads have been fairly dry, the views good and I don't think that I have typed anything that can be read wrongly by these naughty minds that surround me 🤩. I will call that another successful run out and a very enjoyable day, I can report that Andrew is home safe and well. Thank you everyone.2 points

9 mile tarmac test completed powered by trainers. As the saying goes, more than one way to de-fur a moggy. Regardless of power, gadgets, gearbox etc there's generally a way to win, if you want it badly enough. I did OK in 2017 and wasn't in the lightest nor most powerful car, without traction or launch. Arguably the only thing common across the class was pretty much every car had paddle shift. Returning to topic, I was staggered at how good the AR-1s were on Simon's car, despite them seemingly barely wearing at all and being 15s not the 13s I've always driven on.1 point

Actually you are dead right one of the best weekends I have had was the engine out and back in at Blyton. Because it was the spirit of the series with everyone mucking in to get me back in the car for one run at the end of the day.1 point

why not check you have the correct offset rims and look for a second hand set that meet your requirements, sell yours on, ultimately little out lay and less to go wrong1 point

That's lovely! I used to go to the old RAC rally as a kid in the late 70's onwards and watched the HSR's, Lotus Sunbeams, Lancia Stratos, Escorts, Asconas,TR8 etc. The real glory days of rallying (and then Group B of course!). Great memories.. The rally day they hold at Castle Coombe is always worth a visit, loads of this era of car on display and on track1 point

Well, and will change the leverage the wheels do to the suspension arms, and therefore the effect on the springs and damping speeds... But i don't really bother to go down this route when the question is done for purely aesthetic purposes, as I've found that people doesn't particularly cares about how it will handle at the limit... as long as it looks nice.1 point

Our Christmas meal is on Tuesday, December 3rd. The Red Fox at Thornton Hough, near Willaston, is our venue for this year. Have a look at the online menu (it's nice) and let AO Mark know if you are coming as booking is essential. Partners welcome, Westfields optional, having a great time - no doubt about that. Note that due to the Chrimbo party there is no December club night at the Tudor Rose. The Mince Pie run will again be between Boxing Day and New Year's eve and will of course be weather dependent, isn't that a surprise. Don't worry if your car is SORN or subject to Chrimbo upgradeitise, there is always someone with a spare seat. But not maybe with a heater so wrap up warm. We always find somewhere nice and snug for that festive mince pie or bacon butty. DT&P will be advised by text. If you aren't on Mark's text alert system, now is the time to do so, let him have your mob number. Next year will be great, lots of runs, meets, shows and meals. Our famous, if not infamous, Y Ddraig Goch will be a two day event in May. Now in its 12th year, it's probably the most popular and best supported event we do. And that's due in no small part to Jeff's fantastic route planning, how does he find those roads! There is also talk of a european trip, France, Italy, Switzerland, so don't miss that, it's in the planning stages at the moment. Lots to look forward to, so join in the fun.1 point

Build a car to fit a specific class, then spend 5 years and god knows how much time / money further developing it for that class to then have your class wiped out in the blink of an eye without even a discussion, is it any wonder some of us feel a little disappointed. Now it would seem that if we even dare question the SSOT’s decision we’re being disrespectful, what is going on here ?1 point
