  1. @neptune I hope you had a productive day and that you get your car sorted sooooon, you would have loved today There is one thing worse than naughtyness and that is pre-meditated naughtyness, my first job when I got home was to check if the spare keys to the Westfield were there AND THEY WERE MISSING @IanK (Bagpuss) You have colluded with Glen in order to turn my car around in the car park while I was innocently ordering lunch, you naughty boys We met at Matlock where Dave bought an old tyre and Ian wore his shorts, oh yes @6carjon shorts! It was 2 degrees this morning Rob Squirrel Nutcase Lee Dave, looking very tyred, with Luke behind Plus Andrew, making 7 cars and 8 people, it's November and these are Westfields so well done guys Proof that Ian wore his shorts Firstly we drove to the recycling centre for Dave to dispose of his spare tyre, if only dieting was that easy. I was watching Ian having fun testing the limits of his T1R's on the quiet little roundabout, he found their limit! We took a route along the big roads, which is unusual for me, but my aim was to keep out of the water, which we did to a large extent, although there were some good puddles in places. I don't know if everyone else saw them (or indeed if they get excited by them) but the big Stag was standing proud over his Doe's in Chatsworth park right next to the road. This is not a photo of them 😀 but it is a photo of Chatsworth park. We arrived at The Anchor for lunch and Glen shouted 'someone's steaming' It was Andrew and his car was indeed dropping it's coolant all over the floor. Try as they may nobody could get the nose cone off, so Andrew called the truck of shame and we all went for lunch in the pub. We were all REVERSE parked in the pub car park, weren't we Mr Bagpuss? Glen? You can just make my car out, at the far end of the row, it's definitely reversed into place. The boys waiting for lunch to arrive Bill joined us, he purchased the Porsche that was advertised here on the club forum and he very kindly bought it to show us. It is even more beautiful than the photos show, 3.2 litre, straight six, mid engined gruntyness. Glen liked it that much he jumped in with him for the next leg of our journey, to travel in warmth, comfort and style, it was fast too. He wasn't missed, my car was 100kg lighter without him, I'll get me coat. All alone I went to my car and look, it had been turned around, how did that happen? Bill and Glen Rob and Lee had to go at this point so thank you for joining us today and hopefully we will see you again. Leaving Andrew to wait for the breakdown truck, we had a good run to Tagg Lane Dairy where they have taken my advice and stocked up on Bakewell cake (normally only found at Wetton). I informed them that BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge are coming right through the Peak District on Tuesday and will be passing their door around lunchtime, just in case they wanted to offer them some ice cream. Parked at Tagg Lane Andy (he who eats a lot) Westwood has taught me to order ice cream with my cake. Our cake does not look as plush as his today though, is that an eclair on top? It's good to see the SORN boys are managing their sugar levels well. Bakewell cake with ice cream After many miserable attempts to steal Ian's steering wheel and after lots of laughs and chats it was time to beat the setting sun and get home early. Bill Luke Ian Dave We have learnt lots today, about shock absorbers, windscreens and all sorts, but the two most important things we have learnt is 1. Make sure your nose cone is removable in a reasonable time frame and with the tools that you carry with you 2. Don't use the AA, even when you tell them that you need a recovery truck they will make you wait 90 minutes for a breakdown van to come and make that decision for you. The sun has shone, the roads have been fairly dry, the views good and I don't think that I have typed anything that can be read wrongly by these naughty minds that surround me 🤩. I will call that another successful run out and a very enjoyable day, I can report that Andrew is home safe and well. Thank you everyone.

  2. My second peaks run out today, beautiful weather and a great bunch of friendly and amazingly knowledgeable people! Parked next to two gorgeous Mega S2000's, a highly tuned 20XE, a Sigma, a glorious sounding SEiGHT and of course Julie and Glens highly polished Zetec makes me feel like an upgrade is desperately needed next year... Now how to convince the other half my "man maths" makes sense!? 😂 One things for certain, I need to increase the mileage on the insurance... I'll be a contender for "battle of the odo's" next year at this rate! 😮 @AndrewBClarke hope you got home safe!

  3. I'll be joining you for the morning 👍 Unfortunately I have to get back after lunch to help my son with yet further problems on his money pit MINI Cooper S. Oh, and then to try and track down all of my tools that he'll have scattered randomly around the driveway and garage 😡

  7. 9 mile tarmac test completed powered by trainers. I may not be as glamorous as centre Yorkshire TV Weather Gal's, but here it goes: Peak District Blat-Cast for Sun 10-11-19 Roads mainly dry, though plenty of leaves, puddles and I did find some ice in the shade. Hence the may be a few elbows in moments today and I may even get another free drink 😎 Sky's are clear, so with the lovely autumn colours, it should make for some great photo's @NigelO Chances of some rear end wiggling for @Julie Hall - Peak District AO & Digital Feet @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary 30% Cake Portion size between 110 -130% Chance of @Greenstreak-Andy D cancelling SORN early = NIL Chance id getting stuck in a Remembrance Sunday parade: 25% Directions will mainly be right as indicated by a right hand indicator lamp unless it's straight on, also indicated by a right hand indicator lamp Likely hood of shorts- Definitely @6carjon I’ll be mostly listening to Vtec FM supplemented by V8 rumble @AndrewBClarke Temperature setting for heated gloves - somewhere between a single digit (AKA hello @CosKev/ @CraigHew) or a reverse Churchill. 9. It's German Sausage Time! fill your boots with that statement @IanK (Bagpuss) 🤩 Seriously though, GBS are having their usual BBQ and open day, which in December is put on by their German salesman. Authentic German food freshly cooked in front of you with plenty to drink for the passengers too. The usual home baked fayre is on offer inside from the lovely GBS ladies. The cars will be on show, the kit spares shop will be open and you can tour around the factory too. Meet at McDonalds, Ollerton at 9.30am in any kind of car you choose, there is not a run out and GBS is only a couple of miles away in a 30 mph zone. Meet us there if you prefer, it opens from 10am-2pm.

  11. Flap sanding disk is your friend here!! and with the benefit of weight saving. Regarding the spacers... for such a light car and with what we commonly say aftermarket wheels, buy whatever you have on hand. More than likely your wheels will be lug centric ones, with conical nuts... therefore you don't really need the flange of the hub at all. The advice given for hub centric stuff is good advice for OEM wheels... but unnecessary with aftermaket. Another wrong concept is the weight in the car on the struts... The weight if the wheel is correctly torqued is supported by the clamping force between wheel and hub, never by the flange on the hub and never by the struts (they only work in traction). Summary... Buy whatever fits, be sure the struts are long enough and torque the wheels correctly.

  14. Meet at Sainsburys, Matlock, DE4 3SP at 10.30am for a run around the quiet lanes of the Peak District. Time to get off the beaten track and avoid the Chatsworth area as the Xmas market is on and the queues will be long. Hopefully the water levels will be under control and the tarmac will be dry. The day will be determined by the weather report when the lovely Lucy Verasarmy has spoken. Anyone joining us, weather dependant? RAIN AND DRIZZLE IS FORECAST FOR BOTH DAYS SO THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

  15. Well, and will change the leverage the wheels do to the suspension arms, and therefore the effect on the springs and damping speeds... But i don't really bother to go down this route when the question is done for purely aesthetic purposes, as I've found that people doesn't particularly cares about how it will handle at the limit... as long as it looks nice.

  16. Since no one else has said it - adding spacers to better fill the rear arches does more than make it look better.....it will for sure effect the handling at the limit. Adding the spacers will increase the rear track width and this will end up giving the rear end of the car more grip. More grip isn't bad of course but unless grip is also added to the front the car will tend toward understeer. If the car currently has oversteer adding grip to the rear would be a good thing. If the car currently understeers then adding more grip to the rear will make the understeer worse. Just putting this out there. dave

  17. Not retiring completely John just thinking of doing something different in motor sport but if the car doesn't sell I will continue to use it. The Westfield lads are a friendly bunch. Good luck to yourself next year John hope the car sells!! Chris

  18. Agree with Maurici. I run 16mm spacers on mine, have done for years. Get hammered on kerbs at track days and not broken yet... you may need longer studs though. (Rally Design I think)

  19. I had https://www.superforma.co.uk/ custom make a set for me, cost about £45+post, took about a week to receive them. I was lucky that my rear hubs already had long studs, so i was able to use a hubcentric slip-on set at 15mm thick - that took the ET from 35 down to 20.

  21. Do, before committing to anything, measure the clearance to the return edge on the lip of the wheel arches, for both sides of the car! Westfields bodywork was designed and moulds made firmly in the manual days of making moulds from hand produced clay bucks etc. The bodywork is not symmetrical down the centre line of the car, particularly around the rear wheel arches. Additionally, builders generally find themselves tweaking the precise position of the tub, to get the best overal looking fit. So it’s not uncommon, if you make the wheels too close a fit to the arches, for one side to rub, and not the other!

  22. Buy the best quality ones that you can find from a reputable motorsports dealer As Craig says if you get the hub centric ones they bolt on to your hubs and the wheel to their own studs , but, and there’s always one, you may need to shorten the origin studs depending on spacer thickness if your original studs are long enough you may be able to use a basic spacer, but please ensure that the wheel nuts engage fully. I have experienced losing a wheel and believe me it’s not something I would wish to repeat !!! Also beware of going to far out, as on full suspension compression whilst driving around our undulating roads with their less than perfect surfaces you may run into tyre / wheel arch rubbing issues . Which may or may not be able to be resolved by sanding the rear return edge back a little. your other option IF your wheels are still available is to order a pair the same style / size but with a greater offset to fill the arches ( you can always sell on the other pair) this alleviates the spacer / stud / nut problems and is what I have just done 😁

  25. Assuming you want / need to keep the current wheels then yes, a spacer is needed. The problem you'll face is that once the spacer is in place your current wheel studs probably won't be long enough and will need changing too. The spacers are simple enough, just measure how much the wheel needs to move and buy that size spacer. Personally I wouldn't fit more than 15-20 mm and if possible I'd try to get some hub - centric ones so the car weight isn't carried too much on the studs. Perhaps other members who have fitted them can advise further....

  27. Folks, On behalf of the Committee and the SSOT, we have called a halt to this thread at this time as it seems to have run the course it was opened for and now drifted to areas that are uncomfortable, inflammatory, borderline defamatory and sailing pretty close to the edge of what we voted in as a set of behaviours in our constitution. No response to this statement is expected or required but considered and polite feedback is as ever welcomed in connection to the draft regulations as shared with you in the initial post. Please remember that our much needed, welcomed and trusted Sponsors are members too and we must present a friendly and professional public image at all times, if there is a real need to vent, please use PMs but beware that behaviours in PMs are just as expected elsewhere… I have said it before; I, supported by the committee am extremely uncomfortable of any public bashing of any fellow member or contributing organisation and especially of those who are elected and/or chosen to provide this club and its members with a service. If you can't offer up constructive feedback without having to sleight others, then please keep your feedback to yourself. What has been offered in this thread is early sight of what has been a considerable effort from the SSOT in consultation with me and the rest of the committee and subject matter experts on what are some fairly significant changes. This was done, as has been said from the outset (and explained in the accompanying document), to try to improve and simplify the system, attract and retain competitors and ensure we minimise the risk to the existence of the Speed Series in a climate that is clearly failing grassroots motorsports across the board; we are all trying really hard to keep this going. Change must and will happen, the old ways were not working, we agree new or different ways as a team and move on. The SSOT have nothing to hide, all the points made in the earlier posts are well understood and have already been discussed. Decisions have been made within the SSOT to which all have agreed to abide by and support, even if an individual did not personally agree, as being the best way forward in terms of scoring and classes and are necessarily and sadly reflective of previous low entry numbers. It is not necessary to have the further input or the iterative contribution from the wider membership during this process; on that point we are no different to all of the other championships out there. It is also quite a reactive thing to which the SSOT and Committee have done their best to respond to quickly and accommodate if possible. Again, consider other clubs and how they approach their regs… we have taken the choice to publish the draft regs so you can get a head start, not all clubs do, seems we are to be dammed if we do and damned if we don’t. There will always be opposing views, that is perfectly natural, expected and accepted, there is no one size fits all and I know this has been borne out at pretty much every session the SSOT has conducted to reach the conclusions they have. The Committee do not feel that any one individual currently has any overarching sway, nor that any of these changes are unilateral, it’s a team game and we discuss, argue, vote and move forward, it’s what our constitution tells us to do, it's what our club is all about. We do appreciate all the views and feedback, some most sensible and logical but I am not and nor are the majority of the Committee experts in this area, this is why we have the SSOT and why we as club must accept and respect that they are the doing right thing by everyone, there is nothing personal, dictatorial or unilateral here. For now, peace and harmony please, let's see where the new regs take us, let's see if we can work together to promote the Speed Series and make it better and bigger. Any related threads and PMs (including other social media) will be appropriately moderated to ensure we are on track to achieve that and remain as the friendly club. Thank you.
