What a laugh today has been, thank you to everyone who joined us, it has been challenging driving along the wet roads but when we found the dry bits I had my foot to the floor with this red stripe flying at me through my rear view mirror. What an awesome car that is and it sounds amazing when it follows you, 240bhp out of a 2 litre Zetec, amazing engineering from Dunnell. Ahhh, calming down from the excitement, we met at Sainsburys. Steve, Andy, Andy and Becky, Paul and Margaret and at the last minute Rob came wizzing in. I did a quick hello and told him not to follow the yellow one or you will end up in Manchester (Paul and Margaret did the Northerly bit then headed off) We drove up Curbar Gap towards Froggatt Edge which was looking lovely with the sun shining on it. Steve just before the fun near Owler Bar, note the dry roads here Waiting for everyone to catch up before turning left up onto the dry roads We arrived at Homesford and Andy, in the absence of Trevor, photo bombed my shot. Not a bad dance move there though, Andy. Parked at Homesford. The yellow car is now Robs. Homesford Cafe, a tidy little spot, popular with scooters, cyclists, walkers and us Martyn and Sue surprised us by joining us for lunch, no good news on the Westfield front though, it is still awaiting an engine transplant. Rob had to leave us after lunch but it was great to meet you and your Zetec engined car. All the cars had Zetec engines today, is that because they are the best? oops, I'll get me coat Next, we went on the road that runs parallel to the road we should have gone on, that's because I am a numpty and I didn't take a right turn where I should have. It is still a nice road, higher with better views, but personally I prefer the other road, it has more twists in it. I am glad nobody mentioned it anyway😁 We arrived at Tissington and parked up across from the Hall Tissington Hall Herberts cafe was full so we sat outside with views over to the church Large amounts of cake were consumed. Andy, he who eats a lot, had Mint Matchmaker Brownie with ice cream, so he still had more than everyone else, how does he do that? He had to share it with the other Andy, after he had made a start on his breakfast earlier when the waitress got it wrong and served him with the other Andy's food. Our more humble slices of cake being guarded by Steve Andy Steve When Andy and Becky got in the car, their keys were still in the boot lock and they had to ask Martyn to pass the keys to them. It was an @IanK (Bagpuss) moment, when he left his steering wheel behind. You sit in the car, shuffle into a comfy position, put your harness on and what? you can't drive it without the ruddy keys. Don't mention it though will you🤣 Andy and Becky did finally leave Bye bye to all our SORN friends and for the more insane, bring on the winter!!!!4 points

Wow what another great blast around the Peaks thanks Julie. We won't mention you got took the wrong road to Tissington village. Your secret is safe. Honest 😇😇😇 There's also no need to mention that I started eating Andy's lunch by mistake. Thanks for all the amazing runs you and Glen organise. It's been a great summer out in the Westy thanks to you and Glen. That's it for me until April now. Let the DIY begin.3 points

What a great day ! Good job I made and fitted some mudguards there was plenty of water still around and it’s the first time I’ve been out in the wet .They worked a treat and with no doors not a drop got past them and it was very wet in places . Julie was out front and I bagged second spot ,It soon became apparent that if I held back a bit before a wet section and booted it my throttle bodies engaged and I could wheel spin in first ,second ,third and fourth . I never got to try it in fifth as by the time fourth had kicked in I was bearing down on the lead car . For anyone that’s not been .the Peak District meet is a must ,good roads and amazing scenery make this a trip you have to experience. The fact that they always seem to find somewhere for an excellent lunch stop and a cake stop later just adds to the day .Its the second time I’ve been and can’t wait until the third ,a big thanks to Julie and Glen (it is Glen isn’t it ,my memory is like his, whoever he may be )and the rest of you who were there for a great day out .3 points

Nice to meet you both ,I thought the colour of your car was spot on and the stripe Sets it off a treat . It’s probably one of the best looking westfields I’ve seen I also like the fact that your hat and snood match the stripe on the bonnet. Hope to see you again Steve2 points

Just as a watched kettle never boils (as the saying goes) I thought the introduction of the Sky Brexit countdown clock on 29 Mar 2017 showing 730 days to go was a bad idea and would make the process seem interminable. With the first withdrawal deadline missed on 29 Mar 2019, then a 14 day extension to 12 April which became the 2nd missed deadline, we had a 202 day extension to 31 Oct 2019 withdrawal date which looks increasingly likely to be missed too. All the while the proposed transition period to 31 Dec 2020 to allow future trade negotiations is getting ever shorter with the passage of time. The No Deal scenario arises when the transition period ends without a trade deal in place unless a further transition with further payments is agreed. Corbyn says he wants 'No Deal off the table' when he must know that means unless the EU grant a beneficial trade deal, the UK could be forever in transition or never leave, meaning Revoke. EU apparently will announce the extension they are prepared to grant (I DO THANK YOU MASTER) next week, possibly on Tues. 29 Oct 2019. Anyone of a nervous disposition worried about the future must be stressed out by this endless Parliamentary delay, dither and obstruction combined with clearly contradictory statements from our esteemed Parliamentarians. Now is the time to stop MPs salaries and lock them in The Commons with only water for 6 weeks to sort this out. If MPs reckon a Universal Benefit Claimant can go 6 weeks without funds to provide food and shelter then I say let them try it. https://interactive.news.sky.com/2017/brexit-countdown/1 point

After Bobotov Kuk we planned to move on to Croatia next. While we were packing up the tents the next morning, two farmers came by, herding their sheep. Only one of them had a little broken English, but they stopped by for a chat anyway, talking about the cars before wishing us luck and carrying on with their day. There was a petrol station 8km away, so that was the first stop we needed to make. Chris had it on his satnav and I almost had a nervous breakdown when we drove past a station that was closed for renovation. Fortunately, it was one 500m down the road that we were aiming for anyway! We fuelled up, although I definitely paid for at least a litre that went on the floor. In a lot of the countries we've been to, the petrol stations have attendants who insist they fill the cars. A lot of the time they either don't understand when I ask them to fill it slowly to stop it from spilling, or they just don't believe me and try to crack on at full speed. This was one of the latter, and the self stopping function on the pump seemed to be broken so dumped a lot more on the floor than usual! With full tanks, we set off North. We had another busy day planned, but no hiking this time. Unusually, we were trying to do two cities in one day - Kotor in Montenegro and Dubrovnik in Croatia. It was always going to be reasonably tight trying to get both in one day, but we hit some roadworks after about half an hour of driving. After 30 minutes of waiting, Chris walked up to the front with the driver of another car to figure out what was going on. The road workers told them the road would be closed for the next 2 hours. The only other route around we could see on the satnav was back the way we came and an extra hour and a half of driving so we had to cut one of the cities out. We had both enjoyed Montenegro so much that we decided to keep Kotor in and cut Dubrovnik. It's easier to fly there in the future anyway! So off we set to find some twisting narrow lanes around a big lake. The roads then took us into the mountains... ...and eventually ended up giving us a beautiful view of Kotor, which foolishly I forgot to take my phone out for a photo of, so the best I can offer is a gopro shot! From this point, we carried on down a narrow road with about 30 switchbacks to the level of the town itself. This would have been great fun if the road wasn't so busy with cars, buses and cyclists! We parked up, had some lunch and took a wander around the old town. It was beautiful, but a little hard to get a good photo of as it was mobbed with tourists! The walls from the fortress run the whole way down the mountain and surround the old town. I can imagine this place was pretty easy to defend back in its day - probably why it's still in such good condition now! We didn't buy a sim card in Montenegro so didn't have internet, so we figured we'd get across the border into Croatia before figuring out our camping plans for that night. It wasn't far to the border anyway. When we got through border security, we pulled over and had a look at our camping options. There wasn't much anywhere near us, and you have to be a little careful around Croatia as there are still quite a few minefields around the place, so we decided our best bet was to drive on, through Bosnia and back into the next bit of Croatia, before camping there on a beach. I still don't really count Bosnia as a country I've visited despite having been there twice, as I've literally driven straight through it in less than half an hour, but I'll count it for the car's purposes! The coastline up Croatia and Bosnia were beautiful, but we were driving into the sunset so there aren't many photos that came out well from the gopro.1 point

I think we will aim for Matlock at 10.30 and stay with you til' the furthest point north then break off and head for home. 👍1 point

It’s chucked it down here all day and there’s been flash floods , I’m anticipating wet roads early on and as I’ve no weather gear or half doors that got me thinking.................. ‘As the Manager is at her mums I had plenty of garage time so it was a toss up between making some mudguards to limit the spray ,or disconnect the throttle bodies so my heavy foot didn’t kill me on the way there .... find out what I did tomorrow ( if I make it ). 😱1 point

We called in here today to have a nosey, apparently there are 90 cars already there, although we couldn't see them. What we did see though, is a whisky and gin distillery next door, called White Peak Distillery. They have a shop open Tues-Sat, just thinking for xmas pressies, the funny bit is that the Shining Cliff Hostel is next door to the distillery, just in case you get tempted to try before you buy and need to stay over. Distillery tours take place on a Saturday at 11am, costing £12. Did someone mention a motor museum, oops, I seem to have gone off the subject a bit1 point

Normally I lock my steering wheel in Chris's car when we go hiking but this time with the cars being separated, that wasn't an option, so I couldn't resist this shot. When you want to do a big hike but can't stand leaving your Westfield behind (or when you have no doors and want a but of extra security). Either way, FreeWheel has you covered! The way down continued to yield some beautiful views too. 8 hours and 16 minutes after setting off, we arrived back at my car. The guy in the national park ticket office there told us that there had been at least 200 photos taken of my car that day! We packed up and drove around to Chris's car. After the cold the night before, we thought we had better lose some altitude before we found a campsite, and this is where I found my only issue with Montenegro (although it's really an issue with my car, rather than Montenegro...). I had struggled a little in the build with figuring out how to get the Westfield fuel level sender to communicate with the koso dash. After reading back on some old posts on the forum, I bought a Spiyda gauge wizard. I spent hours calibrating it to the point where it sort of works. The top half of the tank is fine, but when I go below 40%, I'm not really sure what's happening. We set off for a 56km drive to where the campsite was, which was right on the limit of where I thought I could reach. Somehow, Google turned that 56km into 80km, and there were no places to fill up on the way. By the time we pulled over, my guage had been flashing at me for a long time! To top it off, the first two camping spots we had aimed for were no good, and when trying to leave to get to a 3rd one, Chris bottomed out on a rock and got stuck. Fortunately I had packed a tow rope, so strapped it to the roll bar and managed to pull him free. We made it to the third camping spot without running out of fuel, parked up and cooked some dinner figuring we'd find a petrol station in the morning. Not the perfect way to end the day, but still one of my favourites all things considered!1 point

This one is one of the best days I've had so far, and as a result is so photo heavy it's going to be at least 2 posts if not 3, so bear with me! The cold morning certainly didn't put us off our hike for the day. If anything it made us a bit more efficient with our packing to get moving! We were hiking up Bobatov Kuk, with a summit at 2523m. There are a couple of different trails you can take to get to the peak, but to give ourselves more views, we chose to do a different start and finish point, so we dropped my car at the end of the trail, bundled all of our stuff into Chris's mx5 and drove to the start of the trail. Even the view from the car park was amazing! It felt freezing when we got out of the car so we were wrapped up warm at the start of the hike. The elevation at the start was pretty steep though, so it was only a matter of minutes before we were down to a t shirt and shorts. Of course with the cold start we forgot to put on sun cream though! The views just improved as we climbed: The final bit up to the summit was a slog, but definitely worth it!1 point
