I thought I'd give my own mojo a little lift here and remind myself and anyone who's seen my car before what's been happening to it over the last five years of ownership. It's a 1989 narrow body SE, crossflow powered with a solid axle, chassis number 955. This car had laid dormant between 1999 and 2014 when I became it's new owner. It's taken the past five years to turn a wheel again due to all the reasons that we encounter, life, finance, more life, less life, fewer finances, circumstances and the often present lack of mojo. This year I was determined to get it back on the road and enlisted the help of a local sports car specialist who have a history with kits and specials to give it the once over and get it MOT'd. A few hiccups along the way just working through 30 year old wiring but it's now running and driving. As always, there's a list as long as our collective arms of things to do, but at least I can enjoy it now. It's become my runaround for local trips. Here's the car the day I collected it. and just last week. I've a blog post where details appear and I really ought to follow the examples of others and list the costs, even though that gets frightening!5 points

@IanK (Bagpuss) hooray, Rita returns!!! the bracket has been welded today and Rita is back on the road. Last time it was welded it lasted 18 months so I am still after a headlight bracket as a long term and permanent solution.3 points

First MOT today and first pass. On Sunday, I ran as course opening car on the Maharajah's Tour (a 70mile scenic tour around Oxfordshire finishing at a great little car show in the village of Stoke Row. The rest of my photos from the day were cr*p. I relied on my mobile phone but the lens was dirty and, in the bright sunshine, I could not check the images well enough.3 points

For our recent "Sausage Tour" I needed a new luggage rack to fit my MSA roll bar as the old rack was to wide to fit. So this is it.......20mm Aluminium box section and 12mm aluminium tube. Bolted onto the roll bar struts with exhaust clamps and still having access to the fuel tank filler, the rack carried approx 20kg of luggage for over 1000 miles. Best part.........it only weighs 2kg!2 points

With such a long camper you’d pay double on the ferry crossings to Europe. Check out the van that @Martyn Vann - Joint Warwickshire AO has. It’s a corker!2 points

I've not long had a relatively small batch of parts cut and folded by lakeland laser, did a cracking job, decent turn around time and were sensible on price2 points

OOH I Would love a speedster! i am suprised that Westfield appear to be only charging £3000 to build a car surely the labour should be significantly more and therefore the kit should cost less1 point

ALL campers are a compromise. Want all the features and space? – you’re be driving a block of flats! Want something compact and nimble/capable? – you’ll be sleeping standing up and barely have a pot to p**s in! Don’t want to put you off because camper vanning is a great lifestyle, but it takes plenty of research and some soul searching - £55k is a lot to spend, only to realise the van you bought is the one you shouldn’t have. Also at that money, you really have to use the hell out of it, otherwise it becomes a very expensive driveway ornament and unlike Westfields they will depreciate. On a couple of holidays back to NZ with my Scottish wife, we hired campers to show her around (different sizes/features), and another trip we borrowed my parent’s converted bus. From that we figured out what features we needed and what we could compromise on when it came to our first build. This has blown air heating and new ones have wet! Q: What on earth is all that about? Wet heating is just like your house central heating, with water (glycol mix) running around in a radiator system (and sometimes under-floor), and usually heated by a diesel burner. Blown-air can be either electric (240v) or diesel, propane is a bit old-school.1 point

I've used LaserMaster in Cornwall a number of times and can highly recommend them. Last time I used them it was cheaper than I could buy the steel for. You can get a quote online depending on the complexity. Definitely worth contacting.1 point

I've been using cutting technology https://www.cut-tec.co.uk/ recently for all of mine, price wise they're the most competitive I've found but their minimum order charge is £150. For folding Essex laser has also been very good. for a small quantity and if tolerance isn't so important you might find water jet cutting will work out cheaper for you.1 point

I haven't used any companies online but what I did was a search for local companies to me and then approached them and asked about doing small jobs. I had many parts Laser cut now and more recently switched to Water jet cutting. Might be worth trying, at least to get a comparison on prices.1 point

First thing, sorry to hear of his illness but the next question is a simple one, is he fit enough to drive? If he is and has a licence then go for it. I am guessing that his Doctor is worried about tiredness especially if he is having treatment. I would suggest that he doesn't drive alone and you make sure he is safe through the day. Make the best of the time you have whatever you decide1 point

If he still has a driving license, then I don't see why he couldn’t do a track day. I don’t remember being asked health or age questions, although an organiser’s disclaimer is usual. If a track day is too adventurous, maybe a local friendly open air kart track might let him have a few laps, by himself of course, not with a swarm of Lewis Vettels. Good on you and good on your dad. If he finds an MG TC in the back of his shed, tell him I’ll look after it. Growing old is mandatory, growing up isn’t. Good luck.1 point

Just drop Patrick or Jason an email with the stuff you were trying to order. I've had this a couple of times with discount codes and they've always sorted it afterwards if I've sent the email in during the discount period.1 point

Eek. That's a lot of petrol money before the E version starts to pay for itself. But fair play for doing something new1 point

As the aforesaid Quantum owner I can testify that Clan McWesty are a welcoming bunch. It's also much more enjoyable driving with a group than on your own. Plenty of banter and usually a good feed somewhere too. Bob1 point

Driving home from North Yorkshire at daft o'clock with my headlights on and there was a noticable wobble as the light shone on the traffic signs. Had a good look at it today and where it was welded last time it has weakened again, you know it will give way at some highly inconvenient moment so it is off 😢. Rita is off the road.0 points
