  3. Yes. You must go to Trinity and see the Long Room. Takes my breath away every time. Food and atmosphere at the Café en Seine is superb. The Literary Pub Crawl is pretty good if you like your Becket.

  8. Come on Ian forget the distance. i did Blackpool to Lydden and Blyton and back home again last weekend. Ive not driven it yet but I went to spectate last year and it’s a great event and the track is fantastic, and having the spectators there too is great. Whether your interested in the BSC run offs or not watching Heather Calder driving the Gould over Duffers dip was worth the trip in itself. Its got to be worth giving a new track a go for a change too.

  17. Yes- its a pretty basic app, but on testing it today, it seems to work fine (despite the rubbish reviews). I like the fact that its a long 'push' on the reset button, so you wont easily reset by mistake. Eats battery life but wire in to a 12v outlet and forget it. I have it on an old iphone 4 that I bought for a few quid on ebay as a cheap landrover speedo - you dont need a sim.

  20. A great day out, and thanks to Gary for organising. Good to meet up again with those from the 'wigwam' weekend a few weeks ago and also nice to meet some new (for me) faces. I made it home around 11:15 pm after some 13 hours in the saddle (minus stops) but it didn't end there, just time to make a cup of tea and watch the F1 to round off an excellent day. After I left Gary/Trina I basically completed the previous weekends run that I missed, going past Laggan, Spean Bridge, Fort Augustus, up east side of Loch Ness to Inverness then a sprint home to Sauchen. Really good roads with lots of new blacktop and stunning scenery in glorious sunshine. As we're all used to, our cars get so much appreciative positive attention where ever we stop. On Sunday particularly I lost count how many 'tourists' were taking pictures with several asking to sit in it.

  21. Some people were asking yesterday on the Braemar run about the level of map-reading there was to do, that map-reading wasn’t their strong suit. There is no map-reading – well, not until you get lost and have to open the emergency envelope with has a map of the area with waypoints to get back on track, and the destination. The whole route is navigated using ‘tulips’, like what the old-school rally cars used before pace-notes (and still use for the touring sections between stages). Each instruction box contains a ‘tulip’, which is a plan-view of the approaching intersection with you as the ‘bulb’ at the bottom approaching it. The number in the RH top white box is the distance to that intersection from the one last one, and the yellow-boxed number is the running total on your tripmeter when you’re at the intersection you’re approaching (zero’d back at the start). There may be references to a road sign found at that intersection, to further confirm you are at the right intersection. So… Instruction 45 – A dog-leg T-intersection (right-then-left), 0.2 miles from the last instruction, 18.2 miles from when the speedo was last zero’d, and there is a sign at the intersection that says Edinburgh (but not necessarily where you’re heading). Instruction 46 – T-intersection, turn right, 0.9 miles from Instr.45, tripmeter now says 19.1 miles. Instruction 47 – Turn right onto side road/slip road, 1.3 miles from Instr.46, tripmeter now says 20.4 miles. Simples! Don’t worry, it will all be explained at the crew brief at the start on the day.
