History is littered (no pun intended) with things that at the time were seen as a good thing but in hindsight were not. Asbestos in lagging and buildings killed people but at the time it was a wonder material. Same with plastic, great idea but with hindsight rally bad overall and no one cannot be appalled by the sight of plastic in the oceans and rivers, but we can do something about it but as always it is at a cost. We use reusable bags and as they wear out are using hessian ones, they cost more but housewives in the past never had anything but proper shopping baskets and bags that lasted years. The biggest issue is how we deal with waste. Eu rules on landfill tax has meant we in the west export our rubbish and then are shocked to see it simply tipped into the sea at the other side of the world. We need to start having more incinerators and use the heat to create power and then the ash goes to landfill as it is inert by then and with carbon capture technology better than the alternatives. Reduce our consumption of all goods and push suppliers to use alternatives.For example our magazine comes in a plastic bag, my wife's WI magazine is a clear bag made out of potato starch that is 100% biodegradable. We have the technology to reverse many of the issues, so long as we the consumer is prepared to pay or to alter our ways which may be a little more inconvenient and those who deliberately pollute are held to account.5 points

Here's some advanced notice. The provisional dates are 26-28 July 2019 which will be confirmed in early December, once the FIA has met to ratify the F1 calendar for 2019. Tickets will be available as before as a package with two adult tickets and one infield display pass for the WSCC area. I've asked for slightly more space than last year but, in any event, the space allocated will be based on cars registered when booking opens and our club code is generated. I've requested a parade lap to celebrate the 20th year of the FW400. Tickets will go on sale in early November, here are provisional car club prices. Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th November, the Bath & West showground hosts the above event. An eclectic mix of classic vehicles, with kit cars in a separate hall, plus an assortment of accessories, spares, tools and second hand vehicle parts. Dorset area will have a stand at this event again this year. There will be a number of cars on display, representing a variety of Westfield models. Please come and say hello, we allways enjoy meeting fellow owners, prospective owners, or anyone interested in our cars, promise not to bore you too much! @Steve (sdh2903) I've seen several of the different systems in my day job (building control) and if done right there's no reason why they can't be built to pass the Building Regulations approval (which would be required BTW) and then be fully legal but to do so you need to think about all aspects of the roof. That is to say that if you are insulating then you also need to consider the potential condensation risk and therefore ventilation. Likewise the existing roof structure was only designed to carry lightweight panels so any works or insulation could significantly increase structural loading onto the glazing frames. i've seen two roofs today but both very different in their design and approach. The first was a guardian roof system whist the second involved removing all the existing roof structure and replacing with timber and lightweight composite slates.1 point

Other option is having 2nd set cut down windscreen pillars with persex/carbon between cut to height preferable to you.1 point

We shall be there! Be aware that Wiscombe parking is in a field and if it is wet or has been raining a lot the day before it does have a tendency to turn into a quagmire! One year we had to be pushed out. All adds to the fun though Likewise re the weather gear at the moment. Planning to get there for 10.1 point

From the Standard Lucas wiring colours for comparison, Green would be ignition switch live (which you could check and confirm) and Yellow/Green is alternator rectifier.1 point

Neither the Westfield style double bubble, nor the Caterham style blade screen is a particularly easily interchangeable screen. (Unlike on a Caterham, where swapping from the blade to conventional screen is quite straightforward) Essentially, it’s not possible with the currently available aero screens to have a set up that won’t show lots of mounting holes, one way round or the other. Unlike on a Caterham, where common mounting holes are used, and those that aren’t required are pretty much covered by the aeroscreen. On a Westfield, there are pretty much no common holes, and some of the biggies, aren’t covered when you put the windscreen back, or vice versa. Those that do want to swap regularly, generally, end up getting a spare scuttle, so that you have one with a windscreen, wipers etc and one with just an aeroscreen. Of course, this does also mean making sure all the parts normally mounted on the scuttle that would need to stay on the car, are mounted elsewhere. It can be done very effectively though.1 point

Could be! No but just asked the previous owner and they said they never bothered to see what it was for but noticed it was always a mild glow, I think it’s alternator light like you say.... on plus side my handbrake light is identified and wasn’t working..... now it is thanks wd401 point

Another switch to Nilfisk after Karchers failing on me too many times, I’ve also had a number of things from the Cleanstore, linked to above, now, including the Nilfisk and wet/dry Hoover’s etc. they’ve been very good to deal with.1 point

The tyre itself has nothing in the construction that prevents it from being run 'backwards', except for the tread pattern as has been said (but only in the wet). If you are wearing tyres that unevenly I would suggest there is a setup issue somewhere. If you can post a well-lit and in focus photo of each tyre, I can tell you what changes are needed.1 point
