Sounds like a perfect project for starters. When you pick your display, also look at serial OLED graphical ones - they are very visible in daylight and easy to wire up and create pretty graphics.2 points

SO! I've driven lately a BMW M135I and I fallen in love with it. Is from a mate in Andorra who have "illegally" fitted a tow bar and uses it to tow his caterham around Europe. Andorra is a bit no-law country. The issue is that the car is NOT homologated for towing, and this is stopping me of buying it. Is the ONLY relatively modern car I've ever driven and loved straight away. Of course, the BMW130 is homologated, and the BMW135I itself have the same fittings for the tow bar, so is merely a marketing Issue. BMW don't bother to go to the certification of some of the sporty versions... saves costs, and helps marketing as you don't se a sporty M135 towing a s***ty caravan or whatever. Then. provided that the car is technically capable of having a tow bar fitted and to actually tow, (same gearbox and suspension scheme, better brakes and better power than 130), Is there any way I could go through an SVA or whatever to homologate the car for this? I did A LOT of reading about it and I couldn't find anything specific about it. Only a mention to the equivalence law... to be able to argue with the insurance, but nothing actually in the DVLa... (please, avoid any answer suggesting going for another car... as that won't happen. I'm very picky with my daily car as... I normally hate the fact of driving washing machines and microwaves... and this is the very first road car in 10 years that made me want it).1 point

Oh, and most forums don't seem to have the polite members we have. Don't even think of mentioning cars on an electronics forum - it's a banned subject for various reasons1 point

So long as you keep the Arduino ground common with the ECU ground, you can do whatever you want within the 5V range. Tip1: grab Electrodroid Android App- very handy for quick calcs on Ohms law for example Tip2: be careful to stay within the current rating for the Arduino pins (20mA is safe) - for 5V that means always keeping a 270 Ohm resistor on the pin if you're unsure of what you're doing Yes you can use the Arduino to directly ground the ECU 5V switch circuit as you suggest- it sounds like the ECU might use an internal 1K pull up, so the current would be below the pin limit. Obviously you can probe the switch voltages easily.1 point

@AdamR definitely looking to get more seat time with a knowledgeable passenger (That’ll be you btw ) Fully understand that the most time is to come from the muppet holding the wheel.1 point

I would buy a set of road tyres and learn how to drive the wheels off the thing. Absolutely happy to be sat in the passenger seat shouting at you while this happens Edit: I would also look at and consider the ergonomics of the car closely. Things such as pedal heights, seating and steering wheel position, etc. IMO it is better to get the most out of what you have, rather than have 'a lot' and only use a little of it. This also then translates to any other car you drive. I reckon you car right now is capable of a sprint time around 73-74s on Blyton outer. You might find a second from ARBs, a second from a new alignment, 2 seconds from new tyres (more likely from fresh rubber than the actual model of tyre, IYSWIM), but even without these things the time is there.1 point

Whilst I was running course car on last Sunday's Maharajah's Tour, I had a rally plate on the front of my car. As I often take part in tours and have to carry plates, yet not always in cars with bumpers or grilles to which to attach the plates using cable ties, I have bought suction mounts. I got mine from http://www.suctioncupsdirect.co.uk/ They work well and I have personally tested them to 95mph without mishap (on private land, of course). Reading through the website, they suggest many other applications that could be of use to WSCC members on the cars or around the home. Simon1 point
