Super post Charlie, thank you! So many times threads like this result in a successful result for the original poster, BUT, the final answer never gets posted up for those that come along a few years down the line. So much better to see that the response worked and helped.2 points

Prompted by this....and the fact i've always admired them, I had a quick look. Gulp. £40k gets you one that needs an entire new interior and is in need of a proper strip down and refurb. Willing to spend £100k and you might get a nice one...... Think I'll stick with the Premium Bonds.2 points

It wasn't planned on purpose but I checked the dates on our photos and it been exactly 35 days between being at both. There has been alot of miles in between in a round about sort of way through Scotland, Orkneys, Wales twice and England with many detours, plenty of cider, wine and good food. Around 5000 miles of great roads, beautiful scenery, great company, new friends and seen so much of our beautiful country in a fantastic driving machine. Most importantly a sack load of new memories with Mrs Jones1 point

A thread for pictures or films of anything Westie seen on TV or the papers etc. We have had @IanK in the papers, which would be good to be here too. My first spot is this Ken Block film about the new Ford GT. Who's car is it in the town square ? Anyone here ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9oSiUVfk9g1 point

I do get the occasional "nod" from passing bikers - might be due to me always wearing a lid so they may feel a bit of affinity1 point

Thank you 1960Dave! For the sake of search, I used Triumph Spitfire ones form Here. Using this search I can also find "biscuit" headrests with green piping too, should I choose that route later!1 point

...rock solid reliability. Is this 'cause any that are left have been rebuilt, and somewhat better than Lancia managed? I've always loved the Integrale, but the ones I remember a customer having, (he had three over the years, all new, starting with the original 8 valve model and ending with the evo version) all had him moaning about the garage time they needed, and how often the suspension gel seemed to drift. Mind you, I remember him giving me a ride over the Cat and Fiddle in the middle one he owned, a 16 Valve, and dear god, I don't think I've ever been over the roads so fast, Westfields included Utterly, utterly awesome car, cross country.1 point

Rab - Are you needing registration numbers again for this year? If so, mine is Q928 VAB. For anyone who hasn't been to this before, as Rab says, it's a great day out with the 'classics' show at the top of the hill and a huge selection of pre-72 machinery in the paddock and competing in the hillclimb. See http://www.bonesshillclimb.org.uk/ for details. Cheers, Matt1 point

What our esteemed and wise Secretary said basically. R1R over 888s if you are on the road. 888s and similar just won't do the job on a long trip or in less than favorable conditions.1 point

Good prices on R1R's at Tweeks at the moment I used Boss Tyres - https://www.bosstyres.com when I got mine over the winter R1R - 205/50 R15 - £86 R1R - 195/50 R15 - £641 point

Just ordered a new carbon fibre aeroscreen from Carbon-NV and stumbled across a great website for sourcing fixings, nuts and bolts etc Ordered a set of cross drilled titanium nuts, bolts and washers - not exactly cheaper but absolute wonderful quality and satisfy by inner geekiness - can see me starting to go through the car and replacing all that is visible - will not be cheap but oh the joy of everything being this kind of quality www.pro-bolt.com1 point

I have r1r's in my road wheels and r888r on my track day wheels. Early in the year I used the r1r's at silverstone and they lost a lot of tread and each block of tread is now warn tapered. I used the r888r tyres at curborough a while back and left them on for the road as I have found them very good on the road and supprisingly good when it's damp. Standing water I'm sure they would be poor as the water has no escape. Very sticky even my wheel dollies stick to them after a few days1 point

One word of caution for those doing long distance touring that use softer/sticky trackday tyres like R888R's, Yokohama AO48's etc; it's not a problem necessarily if you're just bimbling along, but I know of a few (Caterham) owners who've got caught out doing the European Alpine Pass tours, where you're driving quite briskly on the passes and easily racking up a journey of a few thousand miles. They've litterally hit the tread wear limits whilst up in the mountains, and been stuck with illegally "bald" tyres, in both the cases that I'm aware of, they ended up having to get tyres shipped to the nearest garage and had to get them change over locally before they could carry on!! So if using semi slicks on a long distance trip, where you know there will be some aggressive driving, do please make sure you've got plenty of life in them before you set out.1 point

i personnally feel the r888r is too much for the road. in the sense that you cant get the heat in them but there great on track. ive never tried r1rs but they get good all round reviews and will last longer than r888r but if you want r888r @sdh2903 are a really good buy.1 point

I love reading your Westy adventures and how you just battle thru sometimes appalling weather--admirable. Having checked BBC weather online it's currently raining heavily in Applecross and I usually find the North West of Scotland has drier weather from late July thru most of August but nowt guaranteed. I used to be an all year round kitcar runner but with my arthritic hands, knees and hips (double hip replacement on offer but I have declined meantime and am taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements) I can no longer get in with the hood on so go runs on stable weather days (easy now I'm retired). Enjoy your trips Geoffrey and I look forward to the next instalment.1 point
