So on Saturday I finally picked up my new toy, W7 WSC now has a new home in the midlands (perhaps it's spiritual homecoming close to Kingswinford?) having spent much of it's life up t'North! It started with a long train journey with my brother from the midlands to Durham where we were collected by Christiano (Christian really, but his user name adds flamboyance!) for the 15 minute trip to his house. Upon arrival, the garage doors peeled back and there she was - shining bright in all her glory. Behind Chirstiano's wife was the car....I'm kidding...! It truly looked spectacular. Much better than the weather which was continuing to have light rain and very grey and dark - it was North after all. After the formalities, paper work, money transfers, standing looking at an engine whilst drinking tea, we clambered in, helmet's on (it's an aero screen), water proof jackets on, and tiptoed out of the drive way. A shocking turning circle saw me nearly kerb the alloys withing the first few moments of ownership, but narrowly avoided the embarrassment! And then we were off, facing the 220 mile journey home through the rain and wet roads (running on Toyo R888 tyres tended to make you conscious of how much throttle is applied). The start was long and arduous. A1(M) south for approximately 20 junctions got tiring. A pit stop at the services was required, but the admiring glances, people taking photos, the "Nice car mate!" comments all coming in - a sign of things to come. A call of nature and a sausage roll consumed, and we're back on the road, eventually exiting at Junction 37 and heading to the northern tip of the Peak District (and a comically named town of Penistone). The rain came back, the views were stifled by the low cloud, and we tiptoed through, not knowing the grip limits and also having a propensity to not dump it in a hedge/down a hill. But still it was wonderful. Sat nav's on the blink, no signal on phones, we picked our way south eventually picking up signs for Buxton where we had another stop for a tea and to watch the Morris Dancers do their thing (whatever that is!?) at a show that happened to be on in the center. 20 mins later, we're back in the car, on to Ashbourne, Uttoxeter, Rugeley, then to drop my brother off at his house in Cannock. His road has speed bumps - turns out it bottoms out on these - noted for next time. Now just another 50 mins home for me - down the M6/M5/M42 to Redditch but I made it. We left Durham around 1pm, arrived home approx 7pm. A long day, but so worth it. I immediately took the wife out for a quick spin - "SLOW DOWN!" being the common statement made, the reply being "We're only doing 45 mph!" - a new sensation for her. Cleaned her, dried her off, into the garage (via bottoming out again - planks of wood to smooth the gradient have fixed that - thankfully the protection loop did it's job!) but then back out on Sunday for a trip to Bewdley to pick up my dad and take him out. Sun shining, roads dry, was able to start exploring the ability of the car (and me more to the point) through some wonderful roads around the area. The early evening sun starting to set, I head home, tuck her up in bed (after toweling her down again), and relax knowing I have so many more adventures to come. A wonderful start to Westfield life - a long epic in the rain, and a quick blat in the sun - I know which I preferred, but it's all so wonderful. Here's to many more!!11 points

Turn petrol into noise... I have just been out for his first post resurrection, summer evening, local village blat and it was great. Nothing obscene, just a few nicely timed blips from 3rd to 2nd (now he's got a 2nd) when in ear shot of the local pubs. And nothing back except approving waves and smiles. If God created a better way to convert hydrocarbons into noise than a Xflow with Webers, I've yet to find it... I am now going to petition for electric vehicals to be mandatory, anything to make the remaining petrol last longer so immature middle aged men can explode it...6 points

So today we woke to an over cast Mousehole but left the roof off and water proofs in the boot. We thought double sausage and bacon would provide the water proofing. We had a lovely walk round the harbour before getting Mrs P ready for today's adventures. As we took the storm cap off a tall elderly New Zealand gentleman, about 75 ish walked over and shock my hand and introduced him self as a member of the NZMG club. He told of his last adventure in his MGA roadster taking 17000 km round Australia, NewZealand and believe or not Canada. We talked the talk, he left and I thought ummm, what if! We set of along the coast via,Newlyn, Penzance, Marazion, Helston and the Lizard, even some seals came to say hi along with the biggest Cornish pasty I have ever had the pleasure of eating Next we went Gweek to the Seal Sanctuary, yes I'm 6'2" 19 stone ex British forces and rugby player but their so cute, you gotta go! But allow 2 hours. We always take the shortest route we can, it gets you to hidden gems. After Gweek we went to, Brill, Treverva, Falmouth and Pendennis Castle. Next we took the ferry over the river Fal to St Maws then headed north literally hugging the coast and best guessing as we could then it happened. PORTHOLLAND. It's a secret don't tell anyone. We then left to Boswinger and a few others to Mevagissey for our rest for a couple of nights. Yes I know still no mention of rain but after touring Scotland with @Geoffrey (Buttercup) - North Yorkshire AO, @Garyt and @ziplob anything other than you needing an Ark isn't rain Night all5 points

For those of you that have not been before or for those who got so drunk they cannot remember we are located on plot 15. .SC17 Car Clubs v18 (1).pdf In simple terms drive in through the main gate and go over the bridge, this leads to a small island at which you turn left. Ahead you will see the Jaguar F type experience and you need to drive up the right side of this and onto the grass.(It says JLR radio control cars on the map above) At this point you will think you are going the wrong way but have faith. Follow the grass around the top of the Jags to the left and we are there, Do not attempt to drive to the left of the Jags and onto the track parade assembly as you will need a 4x4 to get up the bank that we are on top of. Don't forget that all cars will need to be infield and parked by 10:00 but you really need to aim at 9:00 as it gets stupid busy. I will be camping over the Thursday night and rolling in with a convoy of badly slept campers in Westfields nice and early on the Friday so I will see you all there.3 points

Few more jobs ticked off the list at the weekend New seats arrived from Intatrim (custom designed to my spec), as did the new FIA approved Scroth harnesses. As the harnesses came with all new fixing bolts and eyelets I obviously wanted these fitted - problem number one the left hand side passenger eyelet cannot be removed without removing the rollbar. Rather than seeing this as a problem I took it as an opportunity to remove it, clean it, paint it and tidy up all the fixing bolts which were a bit grubby. As the rollbar removal meant removal of rear wheels it made sense to have a check of everything and clean anything that was looking a bit dirty Old seats out saw the opportunity to repaint and tidy up the interior (pictures make paint look patchy - its not, just were its still drying) New seats fitted and as I went for heated bases and backrests I took the plunge and wired them in (electrics are not my strong point) - following instructions and thinking logically about the cabling means its all neat and tidy (wiring running in transmission tunnel and two position switches neatly integrated (I think) in the dashboard As the Stack display had a few issues this had been sent off for a full stripdown and repair, I requested that the white face be replaced with black as I think its more in keeping with the rest of the car3 points

Hello... I thought I’d put up a post to introduce myself. I’m a Westfield Newbie, having picked up my first Westfield last Monday. I come from a speckled history or motoring, being a bit of a Toyota Fan, particularly drawn to slight different imports, (mainly Supras and Soarers with an E46 M3 along the way before later graduating to a Hilux Surf that I have in time totally rebuilt (it taken everything off at some point apart from the dashboard and doors! – it currently runs a Landcruiser axle, and a Lexus V8) have no previous kit car experience. I have always fancied a Westfield (or “the other one”) and found myself confronted with one for sale that I was incapable of ignoring… so here I am! My Westfield is of a 95 vintage. I’m, trying to find out as much about it as possible, but I’m told it was a factory built car. From what I have worked out so far, it’s an SEiW. With a late 1600 XFlow bored out to 1680CC (Disclaimer… that’s what the logbook says…) it has twin Webber 40s, and an incredibly lumpy cam (the entire thing shakes at idle). But that is all I know so far. She sure picks up and goes but I’m still adjusting to the Westfield experience… (anything below 40 or 50 feels pedestrian, anything over 70 feels terrifying… everything else static or moving looks large and unforgiving) I’ve been searching the forum a bit (yup, MUCH better on 20/18PSI than the 30 it was on) but still have various questions, mainly around any form of confirmation that it’s a “factory” built car, and if so did they use a standard platform, so I can work out what front brakes and wheel bearings I need. I’d also like to refresh the coolant hoses and have seen Samco hoses for “another brand” for the Xflow engine (I can’t find details on the forum search if they work for us). Although I’ve been “building” cars for years, most are rebuilds or hybrids of various factory configurations. but most importantly, I built them so know what service items to use…. The unknown factor of what is what is a new one for me, it looks like my engine is from an Escort, the Diff from a Sierra... the gearbox... no idea… its 5 speed so I’ll guess sierra... and are those hideous front indicators "Standard"? She has been sitting for a few years, outside (under tarps) and the last MOT was 2011. There is a lot of tidying up to do to restore her to her former glory, but she drives well so far. I've given a very brief "once over" cleaning out the carbs, plugs, oil change. Next up is the brake pads and fluid (I need to ID what's needed) Gearbox and diff oil. (if it was an LSD.. it sure isn't now!) I’m in the Oxfordshire Area, gutted to see there was a meet at the Bird In Hand recently before I was aware of you all! Hopefully there will be more and I can meet other members. Anyway, I thought I’d say hi. it’s a very welcome addition to my little fleet (aforementioned V8 Hilux, and daily/Company 118d M sport) Naturally after out heat spell its rained nearly daily since I’ve had the thing!2 points

This is a brilliant road on the West Coast of Scotland. You just keep climbing up and up and up. Brilliant views throughout on this single track road. There are a number of hairpin bends just before the summit and these are great fun. Plenty of parking at the top and don't forget a pair of pocket binoculars. Just be aware that it can be sunny at the bottom but not at the top so its best to have something warm and waterproof with you....just in case. Here is a little video that shows sections of the road but it doesn't show the fantastic views . Sorry about the music. It may not be everyones "cup of tea."1 point

I would say so. I'll do the same as last year and leave the car infield over night so I will be walking in on the Saturday.1 point

only had ours 20 months and could not imagine life with out one now. We've done around 6500 miles this year alone and love every second and everyone in the club is fantastic. Wet is fun, dry is fun, being in a Westy is EPIC. 3000 smiles a second.1 point

Welcome from Thatcham, only over the Chilts. Great to see another Crossflow out and about. As Steve says, come to the Bird In Hand meeting . We dont bite and the chips are great. I wouldnt get too worried about a factory build , there are some decent better home build cars , which had more time and money spent by their home tinkerers. Dont recognise the reg as being a Brum car. Hope to see you at a meeting soon1 point

Yeah, and don't do what I did, go in in the Westfield, expecting to drive back to the camp later, then, like most, decide to leave it and get the free bus in the next day. Only to realise come Saturday morning that my tickets were in the glovebox!1 point

Yep, planning on coming down Thursday afternoon too. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HOW BUSY IT CAN GET ON FRIDAY MORNING QUEING AT THE MAIN GATE FOR THE INFIELD. It's not far from the camp site, but I bet it took us an hour last year to get to the main gate. (It took us less time to walk the same route later on in the weekend!)1 point

What a fantastic tour. Frequently go to pendennis castle and the point. Favourite spot for chilling out and fishing off the rocks.1 point

Hi and welcome...maybe a good start would be to contact Westfield direct and they should be able to confirm if its a factory build...otherwise it looks good and its just about getting it out on the road and enjoying it...1 point

Welcome Car looks great. The Thames Valley meet is the 2nd Sunday of each month, 12:00 at The Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill and there are usually plenty of knowledgeable Westfield owners there to offer advise and help. Hopefully you will be able to attend the next meet on 13th August if not pop along to the see the North Oxfordshire chaps at Berrinsfield, if the weathers good I might well pop along and say hello. The rev counter needle fell off - apparently with age and exposure to the sun hey become brittle. Decided to have it fully serviced rather than just repaired, new glass and the black face - should be good for a few more years now. 213 Performance made relieving me of £300+ almost pleasurable1 point

I don't see the problem, I was quite happy with the 2 timed runs so none of you could "officially" beat my time . Just kidding, it is frustrating that we managed to get in 1 x 2.75 lap practice, 2 x 1.75 lap official timed runs and 1 x 1.75 lap fun run and still be done by 4:30 we should have had 3 official timed runs and a 4th fun run. Personally I'd prefer that the practice was two separate runs rather than a 1 x 2.75lap and by my bad maths that means we missed out on .75 of a practice lap! But was a great days racing, and a very challenging track which needs a lot laps in order get it right.1 point

I'm glad you are enjoying our roads down here .I have been looking out for another yellow Westy but haven't seen you yet enjoy the rest of your trip1 point

With regards to the car "shaking at idle" i had this last year. I simply changed over the rubber part of the engine mounts which solved the issue for me. And very in expensive1 point

I had the golf one on mine and it struggled on track with my feeble 224 BHP. That was also ducted as per the Westfield race ducting. Yes that is only a sample size of 2, one that worked and one that did not, I stuck on a radtec with no other changes and no further issues.1 point

I'm off on my hols Thursday week, back just in time for the monthly meet. If anyone fancies a blat in the interim, feel free to post up here and gather as many takers as you can. If you do organise anything, take photos and feel free to do a little write up for the magazine.1 point

Hi All, good to meet you last week at the eyemouth chippy run - my son, Callum, enjoyed the day as much as i did ( more if he'd driven, I'm sure). We're good for the 23rd run to Oban - we'll be heading over via Stirling and so Kilmahog appears best, dependent on the final route of course. cheers Iain1 point
