  1. I can't say big enough than you to the people who gave me advise and help on my speedy repair! Dave D7PNY and Dave Gadgetman, your prompt trips to the post offices got the bits arriving with the same driver! Now thats synchronisation. Luke Plays Kool, thanks for the telephone advise, I will be booking in for geometry set up soon. Chris Kingster, your moral support from sunnier climbs was appreciated. And every else who contributed to the thread I reluctantly posted due to my embarrassment. So moving forward, car meet tonight as planned, Im happy, my daughters happy, I achieved my target for a Wednesday fix!

  3. Thanks, Nic. How unusual to have better weather in the mountains. It was just as good today. We spent the day over the other side of Snowdon, parked at Lake Cwellyn.. Then this engine went past and made my day, it is called 'Enid' it is engine number 2. Bought from Switzerland in 1896 and still running today, pass me my anorak and I will tell you what happened to number 1. OK I don't need prompting, it crashed on it's maiden voyage. Enid is the name of the, then, owners daughter. Shut up now Julie. I then took a route to Penmachno (via the Llanberis Pass...again...yes) and went on roads with more sheep than cars. Very small roads too, still pretty smooth pothole free tarmac though. I think the views were over the back side of Cadair Idris. I took a left and came back out on the A5 at Ysbyty Ifan.

  4. Lucky enough to have seen XM655 do a high speed taxi run today, filming for a Guy Martin show on the history of the Vulcan so that should be good. I've got a vid of the run (to 120knts, but it looks slower!) but I'm in a hotel room so not sure it will upload. Phone pics and I'm no photographer, sorry!

  5. OK so I might not be winning class A, or my points might look a little low compared to last year (81.0075* vs 82.47) ... but I'm doing a happy dance! I broke my personal best 8 times this weekend and 11 pb for the year! So moral of the story keep records.... as the graph doesn't reflect how i feel *excludes engine blow up at 3 sisters Thank you to everyone i had a wonderful weekend

  8. I've never done that particular journey, but live in Whitchurch. I'd avoid the M6 on a Friday afternoon. If it were me I'd go: Llangollen, Whitchurch, Crewe, Sandbach, Congleton.

  9. Just back in from the car meet (and a spot of tea!) and its received lots of very nice comments ad airing glances, but I didn't take any pictures! Doh! too busy chatting to an MK owner running an R1 engine, and a Robin Hood owner. I can safely say that Im pleased I went Zetec over bike as the MK owner said the screaming did his head in over longer runs. Im a happy bunny that needs to thaw out.

  11. Just booked this, looks like fun. http://www.classiccartoursinternational.co.uk/2015Angoulemetour.html Lazy way to do it I know, but time is short and I wanted to go this year. Others I know that have been in the past say the racing is great and the cars amazing. Looking forward to it - food doesn't appear to be too shabby either

  16. Have a plan in place for dealing with the tub sides after removing clam shells; grp is a funny material, it moves and creeps over time. It may not just be a case of dealing with a line of six bolt holes up each side, you may also find the grp has physically bowed out where the bolts pulled it tight to the wings. You also, even with rubber gasket in the joint, tend to get little stones and things flicked in there, so you may find you have a few little scratches etc to sort out too.

  18. Some advice from my rebuild over winter to make my car more track orientated... I fitted wide track and had a standard rack but rather than fitting quick rack I fitted the shorter competition steering arms.Had the effect of quickening up the steering but also gives more lock which is great. Only works if you have alloy uprights obviously. Dave

  19. Cheers mate! I used a gimbal aka stabiliser (Zhiyun Z1-Rider2) mounted on a telescopic selfie pole. Gimbals first became popular on quadcopters to reduce/remove the vibration from the blades, but can now be got as a handheld and therefore bike/chesty/car/etc mountable. Some have handles permanently attached but mine has a detachable wired hand controller (this is the earlier version but has good pics: http://www.amazon.com/Zhiyun-Z1-RIDER-3-Axis-Function-Gimbal/dp/B00Z19MM1A) and there's this one: (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Feiyu-FY-WG-Wearable-Stabilizer/dp/B01220GIMY). You can get them cheaper by buying direct from China and waiting 4 weeks or by from Amazon UK.

  20. I don't know if all of you that are going have received an email from the organiser but I recently received more info for Sunday (extract below): You must bring your entry tickets with you. Your Car(s) will be located in Pitch number - 10. Arrival Times on Saturday and Sunday are 7am - 8am, any cars arriving after 8.15am will not be admitted immediately, and may have to park in public parking at a cost of £5 until we can arrange access. Track Registration opens at 9am in the Highland Hall of the MacRobert Pavillion and the Driver's Briefing will take place at 10am in the same location, all track participants must attend this briefing. Passengers must register and they will also be issued with a circuit wristband. All drivers and passengers must wear a helmet, please note we do not have any on-site for hire, you will not be allowed access to track without a helmet. Although the above states that there's strictly no admission after 8:15am, the other joining instructions state 8:00am, so please aim to be in for 8:00am to be sure of entry. Anyone who is late, will be asked to park in the public area (at £5 per car) and may get entry to the Club stand once safety marshals are in place. We're on Pitch 10, so unless you've planned to meet up with others to travel through together, the best thing to do on arrival is to just go straight to the pitch and we'll all meet there.

  32. Speaking as a chap with a 1.6 CVH and twin Weber 40s, you will almost certainly not get an extra 40 bhp. Mine's out of an XR2 and produces about 130 bhp, and although I'd love more (who wouldn't? - it's almost never enough), that would take an engine swap. What will the twin Webers give you? More power, a great noise, a lighter wallet, higher fuel consumption, and a lot of fun. Steve from Canada has done a bike carb conversion that's quite tasty too. Oh yes, we can definitely help you perform a cashendectomy on your wallet for you, no problems.
