  1. Further so, am I the only one who loiters on a forum for some time just reading, before deciding to post when I've learnt the forum etiquette? I will look at a forum for a couple months, and then in that time I decide if I would start posting or not, stick my toe in the water and see how it is received, then go from there. Anyone who barges straight into a forum without first taking the time to read and learn gets shunned, same as real life, you don't just barge in and be the centre of attention, have seen a few people join this forum as boardroom users and start throwing their weight around demanding this, disrespecting that, and that, for me, is what has lead to this unfortunately, that being said, that's life, every time the committee tries to do something, their are moaners. Can't please all the people all the time, if after 30 posts and a good read of the forum you don't feel it's worth paying 30 quid for, then it's your loss aye

  2. I lurk weekly if not daily but rarely post. Nothing has fustrated me more than these threads complaining about changes which appear to me to be fair but could and I'm sure would be changed if after a trial period it was found to disadvantage or adversely effect the club. The point I feel is missed by many complaining here is that this is a club and clubs require a revenue to operate and provide the great events and facilities to its members including this boardroom. I get a lot out of reading posts but for my own reasons don't feel I have much to offer in terms of replying to most of them. I do however realize that people are giving up their own time to facilitate the boardroom, mag and various events and as way of support I gladly pay my membership. This makes me feel a club member because I am a club member! If I didn't pay I would probably receive the exact same in every respect but wouldn't be supporting the very thing I am utalizing which feels to me to be very unfair and unsupportive. It's a choice thing and for me I feel support should be shown to the club and its committee in the best way possible, by paying the small fee which enables more of the same. The negitives being posted are haming and confusing the club and its members. If you don't like it, don't pay! If youre unsure, continue to pay and support the club and evaluate its success in 12 months time! People didn't like the changes to the web site until they understood and used it, what's the difference? The subs are supporting a national club. Local areas are introducing face book and the like which I understand to be free so there are options. Sorry to take up more page space but I really feel strongly about this and just wish people would give things and other members a chance before criticising. This was in no way an attempt to increase my dismal post count

  3. I don't have a Westfield, probably wont have one any time in the next 5 years either knowing my luck, but I have your email flagged cap'n and I'll be paying for a membership when I get paid after Christmas for sure, what a great club, great people many of whom have answered many of my threads on pointless and uninteresting subjects, such a wealth of knowledge from all walks of life, its like going to the apple store and asking the genius's*** a question, but about life instead of your i-phone! ***I've never been inside an apple store, but I have been told this is what's inside them :D

  4. Adrian, can I say thanks for all the work you've done over the last 2 weeks. I'll bet you've spent more time on this forum than on your own business. THANKS, it's much appreciated.

  5. You get what you pay for in this world and in the case of this club you get way more than the membership costs as regards value for money. This issue had been raised before and I still have difficulty in understanding how an individual can think that they should get something for nothing, and on the backs of those prepared to financially support their source of tech info, parts supply, immense knowledge base and endless humour. As well as a cracking magazine.........come on...get your hand in your pocket, it's time!

  6. Thank you for that and that's precisely right - it's "Read Only", not "barred". Non-paying guests will still be able to read almost everything on the boards, except WSCC Members Only, and Sponsors & Traders areas. They just won't be able to start new threads or post replies, use the Search facility or use the PM system, for free. The whole point of Trial Club Membership is to allow people to have 30 free days to wander around the boardroom, and 20 free posts in that time, to question others and make up their own minds as to if whether or not what club membership offers for them personally is a sufficient value proposition for their needs. If they still can't decide, they can buy another 60 days for a tenner and have full unlimited membership posting rights. That's good for everyone. (For the record, there are fewer than 10 accounts that are "banned" out of 9,413 total registered.)

  7. Why do we join, take part, wish to be associated with a car forum? I have asked myself the above question a good few times, having waited most of my life before being able to afford my Toy.. My westfield, then realizing that there was actually an organization built around like minded individuals who shared my passion for our crazy little machines. Having checked out the forum just once I decided that joining was a no brainer, just one trip to the search facility was worth membership, and I have visited that jem many times. I live in Alberta -Canada and as such don't enjoy the local club get togethers or the give me a call and we can figure out what to do info chain available on a local level that you have in the UK. I know of only one other Westfield in Alberta. There are of course other 7,s, Birkin, caterham, locost and stalker the owners of those cars are all great guys, and there cars good machines but it would be good to be able to talk brand specific:-). Reading the forum provides me with many moments where I must appear quite mental to my long suffering wife as I take in the humour and sarcasm dished out in a way that only the Brits have mastered and have the ability to endure. I am an ex pat, born and raised in Oldham.and as such understand and appreciate the banter.. Thank you all for the laughter.. You know who you are.. So, why do we Join? More to the point, why did I join, to be part of a way of life, that's what these crazy machines become, of course there is that exhilaration that driving a Westy gives us, that stupid grin...seeing that look on so many faces that says " I wish I had your car" the never ending upgrades, this is more than a hobby, more than a toy, this car makes me so much younger every time I strap myself in the cockpit. The club, the forum, is a part of all that. To all the long time members who share their knowledge with we less informed, I thank you. To all those who keep the club running, I thank you also. Checking in on the goings on of the club and its members has become part of my daily routine. From this side of the pond. Cheers.

  8. I think Facebooks an excellent resource for a local area as its perfectly suited to bookmark upcoming events, talk about past events, and collect photos etc.. From the local owners. All the content is relevant to the local members. It'll never be a replacement to the boardroom for advice, general chat, classifieds, etc... Two very different resources and both very handy, I'm definitely glad and grateful for the new Essex Facebook page!

  9. Somebody from the committee had better tell Pistonheads, AV Forums, etc and tell them they have given away all their value for free. I think we are blurring the line between club membership and boardroom membership here.

  10. and perhaps where the confusion is with some folks - they may have posted on the boardroom - but that is not the club it is simply a.n. other aspect and service run by the club - without wishing to fan any more flames - posting on a boardroom altho infomative and useful is a very very small aspect of the overall function of the club there is far more to the WSCC

  11. How does the committee defend to paying members giving away things of high value (knowledge, advice, and support) for free to non-paying members?

  13. "Barred" to me would infer you are no longer welcome, wrong choice of wording I think. Everybody..well almost everybody are very welcome and 100% valued. There are a number of options open to all existing/lapsed/new members. If you would like to be part of it it's dead easy!! Get your laptop fired up, log into PayPal and rejoin. Simples.

  16. Sorry to be a bit critical here but we're talking £27.50 a year, just over 7p per day. How much are you spending on a new Westfield?

  17. I will. Camille came, examined her and prescribed antibiotics, a decongestant and paracetamol. He said she should be better for the weekend. He better be right as we're going to his 60th birthday party on Saturday. Give Linda our love and tell her to keep cheerful, she'll be better soon,
