Thanks for the warning of when you are on meet and greet duty. Is it safe to arrive at Malvern at 10.15am or are you on a two hour shift?? 🤪
  12. Hi, Obviously, as a result of my devastating good looks and unimposing frame, I have been volunteered for "meet and greet" at 915am on Saturday morning! That will surely keep the crowds away 😂 As a result I'll be departing home in South Derbyshire at an ungodly hour to head to Malvern and doing my best Kris Kristofferson impression with an early morning convoy. First stop will be at Tamworth Services (B77 5PS) for a 7am prompt departure. If you need fuel, please arrive early so we can leave on time. I will be avoiding the motorways like the plague, so we will be heading down past Coleshill, then through Balsall Common around 730am (not stopping) before getting on the A46 at Warwick. Second stop will be for gogo juice and caffeine at the Alcester McDonald's/BP Garage (B47 6PQ) at about 8am. It will be a quick pit stop as we will need to leave by 825am at the latest. We should then be arriving at Malvern by 915am. Note, due to the tight schedule (and the fact that the Midlands Air Festival is on at Alcester), we will be going at a reasonable pace and not dawdling. Note, waypoints A and C on the picture below are just to force Google into the route I wish to take If anyone fancies tagging along please feel free 👍

I was at Donnington the year Mansell crashed into the bridge when he was in the mondeo, I was on the infield right opposite the scene, once rescue teams arrived, they put up big red sheets , we thought the worst, but as we all know he went on to still drive. Then ( on TV) I saw the Senna one, and then again on TV saw the Simonsen one with the aston and the tree ( le mans) All motorsport is dangerous, it even says that on the back of your ticket. Competitors except the risks.

My (then) fiancée and I were at Brands Hatch in October 1965 when during a sidecar race the Swiss rider Florian Camathias crashed and was fatally injured. His passenger Franz Ducret (thanks Wikipedia) survived. A weld in his frame broke through (according to a metallurgist in my lab at Hoover) hydrogen embrittlement. I was also at Brighton Speed Trials in 2012 when Roger Hollingshead crashed his machine which was in the sidecar class. He was on the slowing down section at the end of the run when he veered off the course and hit a concrete bollard. He survived with major injuries and his passenger, Charlotte Tagg, died at the scene. She had been a last minute substitute for the listed passenger. I have been to very many car events of almost all sorts and never seen a major crash let alone a fatal.

@WSCC Webmaster Dear Sir I wish to complain. The forums are running at their normal speed and the slowness issue has disappeared, so I assume that you have fixed the problem. This leaves me with nothing to complain about. Therefore I am complaining that I have nothing to complain about. Please rectify this problem as soon as possible. Yours, Bob Frapples

I see your post over on the invision site has an "agree" button posted, symbol for which is a +1, that would be handy here I think for times when you just want to say you approve of whatever was said, without having to actually post the words. Just an idea. ETA Its 1am and the speed is great no issues.

Please bear with us while we try and fix this. We know it’s frustrating for everyone.

Yes, there is only Michael left now, he is still racing though despite having more than first hand knowledge of the risks, as I said above its a drug, and some folks can never stop - until stopped.

    A personal conundrum...

As was my grandads Hunter, but have you ever driven a Herald/Spitfire or Vitesse with them on, I have , well a Spitty and a Vitesse anyway, and with the front lifting bonnets not really being a part of the structure ( actually no body panels are as they are all bolt on) the wing mounted mirrors just vibrate and wobble about giving nothing more than a very vague image that could be a car or a house or anything else, in other words useless, lol... The vitesse wasn't mine but a restoration company, who lent it to me to hillclimb, it was driven to events as well and after the first event I asked if I could fit one door mirror and the guy said yes as he also had vision problems with the others. So no, wing mounted mirrors on front hinged bonnets are no good to me, folks fit them more for show than function. Just weighing up whether rectangular or round mirrors would make the best door mirrors?. Hmmmmm. Mirrors are extended as he towed caravans.

I watched a film of the history of the Dunlop clan of racers yesterday 'Road' on London Live channel. They're utterly addicted unto death - literally in their case. Very disturbing and moving.

    A personal conundrum...

Wing mounted mirrors would be perfectly in keeping with the period. Door mirrors were fitted to the driver's side only at first and with plane glass to avoid size distortion. That would be about the early 1970s time. My 1971 Hillman Hunter with a pair of the last batch of wing mounted mirrors of the era.
