    Intrepid, stupid or both?

Well, I certainly like a challenge, that’s for sure! I left work at 3.15pm, and arrived home at 8.45pm! 5.5 hours 🤪 Traffic was horrendous, unsurprisingly given the bank holiday. I took what was proposed as a faster route down the A3 and A31 which in itself was very hefty, no idea if it cost me time or saved it. At one point, whilst heading down a country lane, I happened upon a ewe with young lamb which had escaped from their field. I spent about 25 mins with a couple of others rounding them up and back somewhere safe! I topped up with fuel just near work, had one comfort break/leg stretch off the A31 somewhere, and then filled up at the ESSO garage on the A303 near West Knoyle. That took me about ten minutes to get back on the A303 due to the amount of traffic using the garage! The final challenge was losing an exhaust bolt about 30 minutes from home, so I had to limp home sounding like a cross between a Messerschmitt and a VW Camper van 🤣. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it all, despite the challenges. 457 miles in two days, job done 👍.

Just a thought Steve, have you also booked the Travelodge at Berwick upon Tweed? presuming you are not driving back down on Sunday evening. It's Travelodge, North Road, Berwick upon Tweed, TD15 1UQ.

A sad request....- Members required to attend funeral procession Fri 24th Nottinghamshire

Huge thanks to @HB46443 for taking time out to come along. Also, thanks to @AndrewBClarkewho had intended to come before some last minute work commitments put paid to his plans, the thought still counts my friend. Hedley and I managed to land on time (after a horrible, traffic ridden 90 minute journey through Nottingham) and lead @simmi's hearse to the Crematorium. We managed a couple of somber, slow circuits of the car park before heading home. Hopefully we helped in some small way on a very sad day. My deepest condolences to Neil's family and friends. Judging by the large number of people there, he was loved by many.

MOT time....plus a bonus existential crisis.

You and me both. The Westy has been my only car now for the past 13 years, over that time it has left the driveway very little. I do prefer to tinker with it rather than drive it, and when I do drive it it's to test the tinkered bits, lol... Before Westy life I had a perfectly good Volvo Estate, the Westy came along and I then spent more of my time on the Westy than driving the Volvo - that got sold.. Wind the clock forward from 2011 and things haven't changed I still play with the Westy in the garage , but just of late a health issue arose meaning that life may have to end prematurely, a more "sensible " car has been purchased and hoping that may get me out more ( we will see) . For me cars, or perhaps kitcars are more about the engineering side, I love building new bits for it, see them fail and build a better one. I guess it depends on how much you would miss that side of it should you part company with either car. I too will have two cars again by this time next week, although quite which one I end up playing with the most is anyone's guess. Eta Your post has made me think a bit more on my own situation, and I reckon what I will do is to wait till most of the road legality expires and then SORN it ( the Westy) that way I can't really mess with it much as I will be unable to test anything. My now freed up time can be spent on the new arrival and actually driving it, something of a novelty for me that - just driving for the heck of it...
  13. Just took the Midlana for an MOT. All good. Now comes the thorny issue of me actually using it. Fundamentally I have become something of a recluse these days, so we have to make an actual effort to go out, and then we have to decide Westy or Midlana. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I'm a misanthrope at the best of times, so the real question is why the heck did I build the thing in the first place..... If I can't put some decent miles on it this year then I think I need to face up to the obvious and sell it - simply no point having it sit in the shed all year doing nothing. Last year it did 142 miles, the year before just 24 - to and from the MOT. For years now I've made the remark that we barely need 1 car, but we've had 3 or more for as long as I can remember.

    Intrepid, stupid or both?

If I can find it - doubtful but I'll try , I have ( had) a photo of my Gran who was 86 at the time and just after completing the rebuild on my Spitfire we went to South Wales from the Wirral to have a holiday in a static caravan, but it wasn't just Gran that was in the car either, I had just gained a dog , a Spitfire is not a big car inside ( or out) so we were sort of packed in a tincan - bit like sardines... Hope I can put my hands on the photo.

I’m sure she would have approved 😊 Mum will come out at some point hopefully. They are due down to Somerset to visit us over the summer so I’ll get her in it then. She has said I will have to haul her out of it 🤣

    Intrepid, stupid or both?

I bought my Westfield after my mum died, I justified it by saying she would have wanted me to have one and she would definitely have been up for a run. She was 88 when she died.
