Kit car registered as a MEC One?
Malcolm P Price replied to Rob Hunter - Club Secretary 's topic in The Start Line
The MEC One you saw at Curborough today is my car and you are right about what it stands for. I walked past the car as someone was photographing it, perhaps it was you Rob. The mid engine arrangement uses a 1.6 Zetec SE engine, gearbox and driveshafts from a Ford Focus. The engine is standard but gains an extra 20 horsepower by the use of an Omex 600 ECU. The engine and gearbox are not turned around, just moved backwards. The only problem is that the gear selection is rearranged and not wanting to having to select first gear ware fourth should be a compensating mechanism is used to bring the gears back to their normal positions. The roll cage is integrated into the structure of the chassis and the front hoop forms the frame for the windscreen. When looking for a bespoke windscreen I went to several windscreen companies asking if they could cut one down from a larger one but I only got negative waves saying it could not be done without cracking. Eventually I found someone willing to give it a go. A Ford Escort mark three screen was only £28 pounds and the deal was if it cracked it would cost me £28 and if successful the bill would be £56 pounds. It cut without a problem at a good price for a special screen. I also have a Westfield SEIW but that is in dry dock having an engine transplant Cheers Malcolm (Price) -

I agree Steve, I think its the engine, perhaps folks don't know what one is?, I mean they are old now aren't they, I think you have to know about the history of cars to actually appreciate not only the engine but the drive line etc. 20 years ago I would have snapped this up myself. I hope for two things though. It stays in the club and stays in the UK. -

I just cannot understand why this has not sold, it's a stonking little thing. I can only imagine a lot of owners these days maybe want a more modern and powerful engine but no Westfield is ever slow and this one looks a peach to me! -

Yes thanks Martin, that's why I now have a 1970 Herald, or will have when it arrives , not really interested in modern stuff. So once that is with me, I am hoping to get to further away places, we will just have to see. Yeah, its 5 discs for me, totally wrecked according to the X rays, Osteoporosis of the back , had to google that as although I had heard of the word I had no clue what it was. This explains the pain however, but the news about not driving a sports car kind of hit hard, had one , in one shape or form for over 30 years now. Hoping a classic saloon takes over where the Westy leaves off. -
Peaky Pass Blatter 2024 Tour - Alps and Dolomites. Do the sums add up?
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO posted a topic in Places to Visit and Road Trips
What does S2000+S2000 + 2 X Sport 250 equal? Let's ask someone good with numbers A cracking Euro road trip! @Si.Dalziel @Jim cunliffe& @Tim Coles are joining me for this years pilgramage to the Alps. We're departing on the 27th June and spending 5 nights in Austria before heading over to new territory - The Dolmomites for 3 nights. We were 'blessed' with our first obstacle shortly after booking the train in January from Düsseldorf to Innsbruck and return, to be advised due to work on the lines, they can no longer transport us from Düsseldorf and we can now travel from Hamburg instead! Just great! We've now got a 328 mile blat from Rotterdam to Hamburg in less than 12 hours, which means it will need to be Autobahn- I just hope @Si.Dalziel & @Jim cunliffe behave at this point and don't try a rematch of which is the fastest - S2000 or Sport 250! They both won 'prizes' for their last attempt in Wales! We'll provide trip updates on the Westfield FB group and here to (should time allow). -

Sorry to hear that Richard. You may not be able to use the westy but meeting up in a tin top and seeing people may help a bit. I have had back issues in the past and have 3 fused discs and have had to build up the legs to compensate. We have a few that meet up like that at times and not in westies and its about people more than the cars. The cars are the starter and after that its the banter. if we can help in anyway to make your westie life better then please do not hesitate to ask. Cheers martin -

I don't know how I missed this post, anyway, a great car and a fair price for spec. I was going to ask the age, but that's posted above, shame you can't keep it a tad longer and it would sell very easily - Albeit getting exported... Someone will get a real classic sound when they buy this. -

Yes, Lancs area, but its not just that for me right now - health issues with mobility. Having to get another car as Westy isn't doing me much good, I can still drive it, just not very far which means these long travel car shows are no longer feasible right now - awaiting news from GP on how we proceed from here, but he advised a sports car is perhaps not the best for me at the moment. -
Update: it’s booked in for an MOT this coming Friday, after which obviously it’ll have a full year MOT. Im open to offers on the price.

@Quinten All in hand, all in hand, lol... BTW Do we need to prove the photo was taken between the 20th and the 26th?, like a newspaper or something? I don't "do" newspapers but can do if required, lol. -

Nice video thank you, I won't make Malvern either, at least not this year. I really need to move further South somehow otherwise I am always going to be the "no show" guy - quite literally !!, lol. That is perhaps the next thing I need to sort out, having nice cars is one thing, but without the shows to attend it's somehow an empty feeling for me, although these pics and vids give me hope, lol. Thanks again. -

Kit car registered as a MEC One?
Mark (smokey mow) replied to Rob Hunter - Club Secretary 's topic in The Start Line
Given that it’s registered as a Price MEC One I would guess it’s a home built special. Price = name of builder MEC = Mid-Engined Car One = The first one they’ve built -
What have you seen today?
Richard (OldStager) replied to Stuart Davis (fatblokestu) AO - Devon & Somerset's topic in The Start Line
Well set up, they handle well don't they !!!. Not seen one that controlled before. -
