Starmer wants to lower the voting age- a good idea ?.
p k replied to Richard (OldStager)'s topic in Stuff & Nonsense
In Wales all non general elections have 16 yr olds voting and some elections in Scotland have the same . -

If it’s ok to be in our armed forces at 16 then I’d say it’s old enough to vote. -

I found myself in Tel Aviv some years ago on a business trip. At that time - and now perhaps - all eighteen year olds of both sexes were obliged to do national service. It was somewhat alarming to see beautiful Israeli girls wandering around in army uniform toting rifles! -

Genuinely interested to hear what those who would be affected think about the national service idea. I don’t know anyone that age so have no sense at all how it would be viewed. Too young to have done it myself so no view from that perspective either. - Today

Never mind, if the Conservatives have their way the eighteen year olds will all be in the armed services on conscription! It's like a long standing stale soap opera that's run out of plot ideas: "let's have a car crash!" "No, let's have a plane disaster!" A corsechris says, cynical. -

16 is pretty much peak “mushy brained teenager” territory. Enough life altering mistakes are made at that age without letting them have the power to potentially impact millions with their poor choices. 18 is kind of pushing it for most. A very cynical move though. - Yesterday

There’s nothing that has changed recently regarding the login requirements. Usually if you keep having to log in it’s because your browser has lost/deleted the cookies. Maybe it’s a recent browser update or setting change that’s caused this? -

Have to say that despite spending quite a bit of time looking into why this was happening, I couldn’t find anything to explain it other than it appeared to be the MySQL database that was the root cause. Because we run the forum on third party software (Invision Community) it is entirely possible that their code is responsible for this (perhaps by running a complex query every now and then or by running some maintenance task like re-indexing the database). I thought a full reboot would fix it, but it was just the same afterwards. Then it just went back to normal. Very odd. If it is the software vendor’s fault, they are pretty good at releasing updates, so watch this space. -
MOT time....plus a bonus existential crisis.

I understand where you are both coming from. At the moment I have motorhome, motorbike, Westfield, Volvo XC 60, Mini cooper and I have to rotate use otherwise to some what is the point. For me they are like my watch collection, I cannot wear them all at once but I get joy out of ownership as well as using them in rotation. Can you imagine how difficult it is for those with many more? Harry Metcalf comes to mind how do people like them chose -

It is statistically true. You only have to look at the university towns where students vote have over the years changed typically Tory strongholds into Labour and in the case of Bristol Green councils. In some turfing out Tory MP's. 16 is too young as they have no life experiance and do not have to pay for their decisions. !8 is about right in my mind. It is a distraction I feel as it takes away the media from actually discussing the real issues and policies they should be doing which are a greater concern -
A slightly left field one here, the science of music..., never really seen music as that before.

Just posted a recent pics thing, and its even worse now, I am sure it will be sorted out . -
Since it was a nice evening, a few sandwiches and a drink purchased had a picnic at the beach, lol, fortunately I didn't get any sand in said food stuffs and had a nice 30 mins or so watching the dog walkers and the sun go down. The hills of the Lake district in the far distance And a hazy shot of North Pier just poking out into the sea with the Tower hiding in between two flag poles . Car started to get more attention than I like, so went further up the coast only to find it rather busier, so came home .
