Welcome Simon @symonh2000 we like pics ! 😉 -
With half doors fixed its another story. Only way - up above cage with cage. Similar with additional side protection bar as on Westfield Cup cars : Without half doors or that bar, much easier without cage. Part of fun for me with road Westfield is that dont need to wear helmet, no acrobatics getting in and out . I know safety...but in production cars with doors and roof there is more strucural safety, air bags etc. By we still drive ours unsafe (even with cage, btw without 'helmet-always' and Fia padding on tubes even more unsafe) Westfields.

Hey Everyone, I have been a lurker here for a while as I have been looking at buying a Westfield for some time. But yesterday I finally took delivery of one from someone who is also a forum member. I is a 1600 CVH factory built car in blue. It is very nice but I am planning a few upgrades including engine conversion (most likely Zetec) and some cosmetic enhancements. I am not a stranger to Westfields as my late father owned a SE narrow with 1.7 X-flow many many years ago. I have also owned a TVR Griffith and numerous other interesting cars. I am sure that I will have a few questions to ask the knowlegeable members here as I begin my own Westfield journey. Best regards, Simon

You need a gullwing roll cage lambo style

Yes, I made a video of me attempting the top entry method. I removed it due to embarrassment 😂 I'm same size as you, definitely side entry is easier for me, it should be easier for slimmer people too I'd have thought. I'm wondering if many of the top entry crowd have actually tried side entry? Come over to the dark side peeps.

I climb in and over the top of my cage as have half doors fitted. So much easier for me. 6ft 16 stone (Theres a thread somewhere on here of peeps climbing in and out, couldnt find it though) Also for getting bugs off the cage and car i use elbow grease. Its great all round for garage use

Rob Hunter - Club Secretary posted a topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
Hi, Tomorrow morning I'll be doing the full Obi Wan impression to bring some balance to the "force"..... I'm taking the Westfield to the Caterham and Lotus 7 Club meeting at Curborough! 😂 I've been the last few years and in all seriousness and we have been welcomed by the Caterham crew. We are all just "seven" fans after all! I'll be aiming to land about 10am if anyone fancies joining me to watch the track action 👍 -
That'll be great thanks! I'd definitely only fit the scratch resistant type, makes sense to me.

Disadvantages of a full Cage ?
Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO replied to Steve G.'s topic in The Start Line
Lexan and Makralon are trade names for polycarbonate, but the non scratch hardened surface is worth looking for. Costs more though, so could always try a normal one first. I fitted edge trim and yes you could use 2 side clamps and rest on the cowl and cage. I'll take some photos later -
Would it work without the windscreen mounts? And it looks like you've protected the edges with U trim?
-
I don't suppose you know the dimensions of yours do you? I've found some on eBay that will cut to size. It's not branded Makrolon but it is polycarbonate. Is there any difference apart from the name? It's UV protected, shatter resistant but doesn't mention scatch resistance.

I used 5mm I think, cut easily with a coarse jigsaw. The key is to get a scratch coated polycarbonate, not acrylic -
Hmmm, sounds like an idea to try. Any particular thickness? Is it easy to cut without shattering or cracking?

You could fully clamp one to the cage without needing the side supports, then just remove for mots or heavy rain/track days (that's what I do). I used Makralon AR (scratch resistant coating) and it's held up brilliantly as well as being optically clear
