Alloy or stainless steel rear arch protectors for narrow body car
dvd8n replied to NotMcGoohan's topic in Parts Wanted
Well, that was a good call. Out of the six rivets I think that only one was doing anything. On this side they seem totally misaligned. I don't know if the tub moved when they sheared or whether they never lined up. Do I redrill the holes or try to get the tub back into position, I wonder? - Today

Portland Bill run

👍🏼You have inspired me to do a decent run out one day this week -
I really fancied a drive out yesterday, and eventually broached the idea of an early morning run with Mrs Stu, with a promise of being back by 9am when the rest of the house would just about be up and about. This received grudging approval, so the alarm went off at 6am, and by the time I had sorted myself and the dog, I headed off at around 6.35. Rough plan had been a 2.5 hour round trip in order to be home on time. I started up and headed off gently without warming the car so as to avoid disturbing the neighbours too much! First leg was down to West Bay, with the obligatory blat through Beaminster tunnel at full chat, then a fuel stop at the Esso in Bridport for some Supreme 99 and a cruise around the harbour. Without a stop, I headed along the coast road towards Abbotsbury, with its spectacular sea views, stopping at the lay-by overlooking Chesil Beach and Portland. Not sure why I look grumpy in the selfie, probably just too early and needing to concentrate to manage to take it properly 🤪! It was a bit damp out, with occasional light drizzle but the R888Rs still seemed to cope very well, plenty of grip though I was taking it fairly easy. From there it was along behind Chesil Beach and onto the Isle of Portland, winding my way uphill through town then down all the way to Portland Bill for a quick stop and leg stretch to take in the views and walk around the lighthouse and touch the obelisk (as it were 😉) Heading North now, it was fairly slow and fiddly up to Dorchester, but then I really enjoyed the stretch to Sherborne via the A352 which is a great drive, one of the best legs on the trip, fast open road with no traffic, perfect Westfield territory. Finally back through Yeovil which is a bit of a grind, but then some nice open sections home. I was back by about 9.15am, in time for breakfast and the rest of the house were just up and about. 87 miles in all, great way to start the day.

Jaime Ward started following Tyres (troubles!!)

Found myself with a bit of a problem with Avon being out of buisness and imagine I’m not the only one with the same issue. Currently running Avon ZZS’s, 185/55R13 on the front and 245/50R13 on the rears (mounted to 11 inch wide rims). MOT is due in a few weeks, and have a couple of track days planned beforehand, and think my current tyres will end up being close to the limit. I could get another set of wheels to suit a set of AR-1s but really don’t want to drop down to 9inch rears, or fork out to have a set made to match the current offsets etc. One thing I’ve thought of possibly doing is getting a set of used slicks/wets from tyretek and saving the ZZS’s for road use, but not sure about suspension setup and the changes I’d need to make between the slicks and road tyres. Any suggestions or any inside info on whether Nova are going to soon put ZZS’s back into production? Or anyone with a set of 245’s with lots of life left in them that they would part ways with? 😉 Cheers -Jaime

Having almost written my car off in 2004 by a big aquaplane, I can't emphasise enough how lethal wide tyres and a very light car combination could be.
