I moved from an exo skeleton with roll bar. To a caged westfield, for taking my kids out in it. I feel more comfortable out in it with them, seeing them strapped in under the cage. We wear helmets if going for a proper drive, but if its just a quick street cruise, then its sun glasses 😎

Hi Greg, Thanks for the reply. Could you get me a price for posting (tracked preferably) and then let me know the total and how you want paying? Regards Gareth.

I know this isn’t a joke or a pun, but I still find it hilarious every time I see it. I miss the original Top Gear more than I realised.

Yeah definitely, you will be wearing a helmet anyway. I love my full cage. My first ever kit alongside my current 4th kit. The Westfield definitely feels safer 😂

Given I hill climb and sprint more than going to Sainsbury's I still think a full cage is better for me.

What the postie brought today!

Yep, exactly why I bought them. I was thinking of changing them more often even if I don't do the oil at the same time. It's recently had some new very expensive oil in and is still clean so I'm hoping all is well for now. -

Do not forget those need to be replaced more often, as being smaller the filtrating material get clogged up faster. -
Hi steve, Thanks for that. I think £1500 would be a good starting point.

A mate of mine living in Greece crashed his Westie into a lemon tree. He's still bitter and twisted 🍋 I'll get my coat.......

Also, one other often misunderstood bit of cages. In general, the type of padding sold to go on the roll bar tubes by specialists motor sport supply places, is NOT to directly protect your (bare) head!* Its intended to reduce the initial impact of your helmeted head, hitting a tube, so the helmet doesn’t get wiped out on the first blow, and continue to give some protection as you’re bounced around etc, during a crash. *I have in the past, seen padding advertised as protecting you without a helmet. Not sure how much I’d trust it though, and it was much bulkier and way more expensive. But like all these things, everyone uses their car slightly differently, and everyone has to do their own mental risk/reward calculation, and do what they feel comfortable with.

Yep, lots of variables, type of seats, seat material, type of straps, 4 point, 6 point etc, then of course they have to be correctly fitted to the car in the 1st place. Size and height of driver. Some tall people find their heads are VERY close to the cage! I think on balance it's fair to say, if you have a full cage, best to wear a helmet. I may even start following my own advice! 😂 I have a lovely, brand spanking new carbon lid, so beautiful I left it in its box for the last 3 years, too scared to scratch it 😬 I think I will be wearing that soon.

Nobody straps in that tight in a road car though, that's the trouble. In fact at track days I've never seen anyone strap in that tight either. Even strapped in well you'd be surprised how much you get thrown around in a crash, it's absolutely violent as hell.
