New Regulations on personal plates to be introduced 2026
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO replied to Ross the Scottish exile's topic in The Start Line
My Alfa is the same, legally spaced 5 digit plate. I didn't want to risk getting pulled by moving the O. I got it when I was 50. However, I didn't realise that the Westfield has motorbike sized digits until I made a new one. Technically illegal I suppose. -

New Regulations on personal plates to be introduced 2026
Captain Colonial replied to Ross the Scottish exile's topic in The Start Line
I’m generally in favour of enforcement for obvious manipulation for vanity purposes. Saw a woman driving a Lexus on the M40 with silver number plates and black lettering of a strange font as she flew by me. Ten minutes later, I caught up to see her and a copper on the hard shoulder standing behind her car, her gesticulating wildly in anger while he pointed at the offending plate. -
New Regulations on personal plates to be introduced 2026

I saw this article on another forum I was reading and it looks like there’s to be a an update and introduction of new regulations on personal number plates. This looks to be aimed at those plates where numbers are misrepresented to spell a word, and number and letter spacing. “Any registration that needs illegal misrepresentation to try to mean anything will be utterly worthless from late 2026 onwards although it is being enforced by some police authorities now. To finally stop the absolute explosion in illegally displayed plates, huge changes are happening in 2026, both to enforcement and to penalties. 1. Enforcement The massive difference between previously and from 2026 onwards, is that being rolled out across the UK is a brand new breed of UHD fixed ANPR cameras, digitally linked to DVLA. Current mobile speed camera vans will also be equipped with these cameras in due course. These cameras can identify any registration mark illegal manipulation and will automatically issue the registered keeper by post with the traffic offence basic fine.( currently £100) they will also note that offence on the vehicles DVLA record. These new UHD cameras are so accurate that they can even pick up on illegal fonts. Repeated illegal display offences render you liable to the DVLA seizing back the registration mark. 2. Penalties The government is currently proposing a range of amendments to regulations under the Road traffic Act. Amongst those are 3 specifically to combat the illegal display of vehicle registrations :- 1. Minimum fine to rise from £100 to £250. (max to remain at £1000). 2.Change to the offence category to “endorsable” So in future you will receive 3 penalty points on your licence as well as the fine every time you pass one of these cameras or mobile units, or any police officer stops you. 3. Give police the power to seize, at their discretion, for repeat offences. The consultation finishes in early May and these Police, Council and MP recommended changes will become law with the implementation being later in 2026. READ:- “ Department of Transport proposed changes to penalties for motoring offences “ published 7/1/2026 Not too sure how accurate it is but it is on their website. having been fined £100 for a spacing that was 7mm out I’ve replaced mine. - Yesterday

Welcome aboard, I chose the lazier, ready built and running option as I was sick of a previous project and just wanted to get out and drive, plus I do this for a living and one thing I've learned is once Ive finished work I don't want to work on my own stuff, kinda wish I knew that before starting my career as id have chosen something else so my love for working on cars wouldn't dampen, now i need a pay cheque to get me motivated and i don't pay myself haha

Thanks for that. Having looked into a bit more, the most current wording in the MSUK rules I can find is very much the same. Because it's considered a motorsport event, even if it is "just" a parade lap, the full passenger rules apply. I suspect this would catch a lot of folk out if it's not made clear in advance. Best get the boy working on his deep voice and gruff demeanour! @Hedley Bennett (HB46443) - Club ChairmanIs this something worth adding to the general information somewhere, as I suspect there will be a good few folk bringing small people along and hoping/expecting them to be allowed on track. -

That was me and my son is Scott's photo. At the time he was "sort of 12". These were the rules at the time which I have found in my inbox from Silverstone: "Passengers are allowed to take part in parades but the number of people in any car must not exceed the number of seats fitted to the car and all must be in possession of an Event ticket. All passengers must be seated in the seats provided and safety belts must be used. Passengers under 18 must have the signed approval of their parent or guardian to participate in a track parade. Passengers in Touring Cars, or Cabriolet/Sports Cars with the hood erected or hardtop fitted, must be 12 years or over and be at least 135cm in height. Passengers in Cabriolet/Sports Cars without the hood erected or hardtop fitted must be aged 16 years or over and be at least 135cm in height. No child under 12 years is allowed to be a passenger. This is subject to change at the discretion of Motorsport UK." -

Back in 2016, it was no one under 12, belts must be worn, helmets not required and disclaimers to be filled in and signed (bring a pen!). I’m pretty sure a 6’ young man will be fine, but I’d advise bringing his passport for ID purposes just in case - that and getting him to practice lying about his age! I said 16 just in case, happy to be wrong. More details will be provided later I’m sure. No doubt it’s to stop excited children falling or jumping out mid-lap. The rules may well be different in 2026. I will say now that if you’re going on the parade lap not to wander too far away from your car! Last time, they gathered us up about 90 minutes before the lap and moved us to the staging area at trackside. If you miss the staging call, you are highly unlikely to be allowed to join late. I also suggest a Parade Lap WhatsApp group near the day so that everyone can be pinged and kept up to speed so they don’t miss the staging call! -

Do you know any more info regarding this? I very much intend taking my 13 year old son (who is also 6' tall, so it would be debatable if anyone would question his age) round with me, but I have no roof, nor any way of ever attaching anynsich thing, and suspect many others also don't. Is having a roll hoop sufficient, do you think? -
