    Tin Top Car Warranties

Or a Toyota engine Lotus Marcus? Interesting. I've had warranties in the past and claimed no problem. I was very grateful when a sunroof motor went with the roof stuck open 😐 For the AA one: What is insured? ✓ Almost all of the manufacturer’s original mechanical and electrical components as detailed in the policy document ✓ Diagnostic charges form part of a claim under this policy as agreed with our claims engineers ✓ In-car entertainment / Sat Nav providing the equipment is factory fitted up to a maximum of £500 including VAT ✓ Remote key fobs / key cards covered for electrical failure up to a maximum of £200 inc. VAT ✓ Working materials (oils and other fluids) where an authorised repair requires it ✓ Hybrid and electric vehicles – manufacturer supplied and fitted power generation and transmission components ✓ Parts replaced in pairs i.e. coil springs and shock absorbers ✓ Air-conditioning (factory fitted) ✓ Camshaft timing belt ✓ Casings in the event of a covered item causing damage to it ✓ Turbo/supercharger (factory fitted) What is not insured?  The vehicle has been altered or modified from the manufacturer's original specification, or has been raced, rallied, used in competition, or for hire or reward, used for courier work or driving tuition or custom built vehicle  Failure to replace cambelt in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations  Faulty workmanship, cracked blocks and cylinder heads, corrosion, carbon build up, or accidental damage to the radiator  All batteries  Hybrid and electric vehicles – electrical connectors, wiring, batteries and disposal of chemical waste resulting from a claim  Wear and tear  Pre-existing faults that are present before the policy start date  Water ingress, oil or fluid leaks  Damage arising from the incorrect use of fuel  Any parts that have not actually failed and are replaced during routine servicing or maintenance  Damage caused by negligence that could have been prevented by stopping sooner  Any failure due to lack of lubrication or other fluids or ignoring any warning signals, gauges or lights  Losses normally covered under a road risk insurance policy or loss resulting from an accident to the vehicle  Exhaust emissions or MOT failures  Breakdown caused by lack of normal and proper use

You would be amazed… well, no you wouldn't - at what isn’t covered and how much gets excluded as consumable, fair wear and tear, etc, under those policies. Smoki-Wan Cartonly is correct. Service to requirements, and save money for breakdowns.

Running without them (or doors) above 50 mph causes the well-known phenomenon of Westie Nose and an inability to breathe. With them, the issue disappears and it’s quite comfortable, although you’ll still get blown about from behind as the air rushes in to fill the vacuum created. Highly recommended. AFAIK there’s no issue with getting them specifically for narrow cars as opposed to wide, they should still fit, but make sure the kit comes with the hinge halves! The factory do them but you’ll probably find them somewhat* cheaper on FleaBay, etc. *as in “much, much”

In my experience anything other than a manufacturers warranty is a waste of money and you’re better off simply putting the same money aside each year for any unexpected repairs. It’s worth checking in detail what components are covered and whether this just includes failure or also intermittent fault, as many independents don’t cover the latter. I’ve had a few claims denied in the past for leaking oil seals and sensors etc that are out of calibration and misreading but because the component hasn’t physically failed the cost hasn’t been covered.
  14. That's a shame, I do like a Tillett seat, used them karting for decades.
  15. Cheers. Inatrim looks good for selection, but as you say, would be a visit to try a few. Removeable head rests would work too. Can I ask how well the side screens work and still supplied by someone ?

I have a spare Caterham Tillett seat in my box room, looks narrow compared to my JKs, but just measured it at the thigh and shoulder widest points and it's 41cm or just under, so even that's too wide!

No dimensions given but may be worth asking for them if they look right for you. Cheap enough. https://ebay.us/m/7OeU3E

Rare as hen’s teeth now but worth a trawl for Richfield RX777 seats on FleaBay, etc. which is what I have in my narrow. I found the Inatrim seats to be overly side bolstered for my retired torso, personally. Whatever seats you decide on, sit in them before you commit!!!
  19. I was thinking low seats to keep the cover over the tub as in the below. You're right with head rests and was thinking of building some that attach to the roll bar.
  20. Cheers for that, would have been handy to try some.

    Tin Top Car Warranties

Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations for a tin top car warranty please? My manufacturers one is coming to an end and I'm looking to get one to replace it. The AA seems to be in the lead for level of cover vs reasonable price currently. Im sure you have all had bad experiences too. ANy shockers out there? thanks. PC

Seats are probably the hardest thing to source for narrows - they're just so narrow, and more modern seven style cars have grown some what over the decades, so not many makers produce anything small enough. Intatrim might be able to help if you want a padded seat option. If looking second hand it might be worth seeing if Caterham S3 (the standard size car - effectively a narrow) might fit. However Caterhams tunnel is a bit narrower than a Westfield, I think, so even they might be tricky. Fortunately, the screen uprights you have are the flat type, so pretty much any mirror with a base small enough to fit should be OK. ) I think mk1 or 2 Escort mirrors were what was originally fitted. If you mean actually on the cycle wings, apart from never being able to see out cause the wings move with the wheel, there's just too much vibration to see though the mirror. The same vibration issue could be a problem if mounted say, on the bonnet. The scuttle/screen uprights is the most solid, (by comparison) place to mount them. The acrylic wind deflectors do work very well. Full vinyl side screens are also very effective, but again, finding a pair to fit an early car might be a problem - I've no idea if later wide body style would fit, they might do. Easy to try though if you get along to a club meet and there's a member there that will let you have a go with one of their side screens...

    Softbits full hood bag wanted

Have you actually spoken to Soft Bits? As much of their stuff is made to order, it showing out of stock on the web site is very common. Depending on time of year, stuff does come through reasonably quickly in the off-season at quiet times, though to be fair, at peak times they do get really, really busy so there can be quite a delay once you're in the queue. I've found everything I've had to be really good quality though, and have been prepared to wait.

A rain cover will go over the high back seats no problem at all, they are generally not too high and lower than the roll bar for example. When choosing your next seats, I'd put safety and comfort first and get the normal (high back) seats, it pays to have something behind your head in cars like these.
