Peak District Run Out, Sun 9 Nov, Cupola
Flying Carrot Steve replied to Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative 's topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
There is something quite magical about driving a Westie in the fog. As long as it's not too bad, it's quite exciting. Some of my most memorable kit car moments have been in the fog, like the time at about 5.30am on the A46 heading towards Stroud, when I was the only car on the road for miles around and I suddenly heard this thuck, thuck, thuck sound. Ah bum, flat tyre I thought, but no vibration? Looked up to my right and a low flying Chinook had spotted me, he changed course and came straight towards me and buzzed me! I could literally see guys in the windows waving! I lost the plot and started waving and screaming like some loony! It was a true 'special moment' of my kit car life, I felt like I was in Top Gun or some such film. I will never ever forget that blat! I wish I'd had a 360° camera that I can tell you, what a video that would have made! -

Did some digging. There may be some mileage in this although it is a stretch.... .... but it seems a bit of a coincidence that JAP bars (from what I've seen) are usually spelt with capitals. Could it be something to do with John Aley? JA Products maybe? It's as good an answer as any I reckon.

Been telling people for at least a decade, they never listen. The danger is real, many experts agree...... (I've highlighted my favourite bits in bold 😂) The recent high-profile warning that artificial intelligence could lead to human extinction came from a short, stark statement published by the Center for AI Safety (CAIS) in May 2023. The statement, signed by dozens of top experts and tech leaders, including the CEOs of OpenAI (Sam Altman), Google DeepMind (Demis Hassabis), and Anthropic (Dario Amodei), read: "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war". More recently, the controversial "AI 2027" paper and a new book by AI researchers Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares, titled If Anyone Builds It Everyone Dies: Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All (published in September 2025 in search results, implying a very recent release), have reiterated this extreme risk. Yudkowsky has notably stated, "I think we're not ready, I think we don't know what we're doing, and I think we're all going to die". (Lovely 😂) These warnings are part of an ongoing debate about the potential for future AI systems to surpass human intelligence and pursue goals that are misaligned with human values, a scenario known as an existential risk from artificial general intelligence (AGI) or artificial superintelligence (ASI).

Funny enough that was my immediate thought.

Hello all! Chassis number question
Mark (smokey mow) replied to Gillinghampaul's topic in The Start Line
Actually they do. in the 17 digit vin format a live axle number will typically* begin SA9WSLA with the LA denoting “live axle”. *but not always as there are variations. -

The steering wheel buttons can be back-lit, but only for night time visibility. The active circuits would normally use the standard dash telltales. You can fit an illuminated dash CAN keypad though, which does light up brighter on the active circuits (there can be up to 14 of those) Edit to add a reminder that WSCC members have a 10% discount on my products since the whole business came about through this great club 💙 -

Honestly, I don’t know. i never quite dared ask, in the old factory days. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion it means exactly what Google thinks. From memory, they did kind of start appearing at (very) roughly the time there was a lot of exporting, by the old factory, of Westfields to Japan going on, in the nineties. -

Since I'm currently fighting my way through the tangle of wires created by the previous builder — and myself (me from a few years ago ) — I can see that such a device, with a single relay box for up to eight outputs and no separate wiring for the control switches, must greatly simplify the construction of the electrical system. As I understand it, from the relay box you’d run one wire to the dipped beam, another to the high beam, a third to the left indicator, a fourth to the right one, a fifth to the reverse light, a sixth to the fog light, a seventh perhaps to a manual radiator fan switch, and an eighth, for example, to the heater fan. Just out of curiosity — are those buttons illuminated so you can tell when a given function is active? -

Warning to all Westfield drivers!! If you don't come out into the Peak District on a regular basis you will end up with Bagpuss Related Bad Parking Syndrome, as demonstated perfectly here! we won't name names though😁 Thanks Dan for the photo Breakfast for 9 in Cupola Cafe. Excellent quality food, not cheap but defo not nasty. We were out of the cafe before 11 and off on our run out. It stayed dry, the roads were really quiet, I did a superb last minute left turn (proud of that, nearly missed it!), had to take my sunglasses off on the tops due to fog and we all landed safely at The Tea Junction, Hulme End. Rita We all had a Worzel Gummidge moment, here's mine Ian was in control of his hair this week, until he sat next to me that is😁 That's it, we were done in record time and on our way home at 12:45, dry, light and all good having had a fun day with not a word of common sense between us. It's @AndrewBClarke's Christmas Party next Saturday at The Bentley Brook, if the weather is kind I will be doing a run out beforehand, looking forward to it, see you all there XXXX- 23 replies

Well I was just trying to get the diameter of the bar without the bother of getting off the sofa. I didn't expect to be in danger of being cancelled.

Googles crap ai totally misleading told me the clutch cover on my fireblade engine was bolted directly to the flywheel and not the crankcase 🤔

I did a Google search for Westfield Jap Bars. Google helpfully corrected that to Westfield Japanese Bars. I told Google that, no, I meant Westfield Jap Bar. Notheless, Google helpfully gave me a load of pictures of nice Japanese people sitting at bars 🫣
