What the postie brought today!
Flying Carrot Steve replied to Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset's topic in The Start Line
I used it to do my Jag wheels about 3 years ago. I decided to double ceramic coat them, took me days doing it all properly. Mostly letting it properly set between coats, making sure they were spotlessly clean etc. Was worth it though. -

I've used it, and to get good lasting protection, found you do need to do the full prep. However, with the full prep, I also found GTechniq's claims for the longevity of the coating, very, very conservative. Though admitedly, post most washes, I do give them a final light spray over with GTechniq's C2V3, before polishing off with a microfibre cloth. (This doesn't affect the ceramic coating beneath, but helps keep peak water beading, and helps stops the dust/dirt sticking) -

Also a Quad Lock mount for my phone that I’ve made a bracket for and mounted using the tonneau poppers. My suction mount didn’t like having the heater vent blowing on it, so kept falling off. Hopefully this one will remedy that. -

I am concerned that there is a massive thread drift on the OP! Could admin move the emissions related posts to the FAQ about emissions? -

@Matt_S thanks for the recommendation - did you do all the prep GTechniq recommend or just make sure the wheels were clean and dust free? -

Mine is on an age related plate and has a 1998 Zetec engine. No emission levels listed on V5 but it has always been tested to the values in the MoT database. -

An added bonus is that if there are no emissions on your V5, you can take your lovely V8 through the ULEZ etc!! -

What if you have no value given on the V5 but your engine is more modern? -

If you’re on a Q plate then there is no emissions test. If you’re on have a non Q plate then if you don’t have a value on you V5C then they can’t test emissions. If the MOT tester says they can/will then they need re-training as the guidance is clear & obvious. -

Ian, if you check your V5C does it have an emissions value? If it does then that is what they have to test too. If it doesn’t, they they cannot test to a random value & believe it is then same as a Q plt ie visible smoke test only @Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO can you confirm? -

Hi all, I love this subject! So I brought my V8 with a current MOT & didn’t research MOT / emissions / SVA and basically hadn’t got a clue (& probs still don’t!) Then more by luck than judgment I got talking to our MOT guru @Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO at WSCC Black Country meet. In May 2024 I had to take it for 1st MOT under my ownership & with mine having a CAT installed as part of the original factory but & also being non Q plt was worried I may have issues. Martin then pointed me to the FAQ flow chart & advised that as it was registered in Jan 1999 was subject to emissions test during MOT but asked me to bring along my V5C to next meet. Result - Martyn took a look at V5C and showed me there isn’t any recorded emissions from when SVA was completed & when it gets MOT’d the tester can only test to the emissions value on the V5C - or to nothing as there is no recorded value. So to back this up, I researched my engine number for the LRV V8 3.9 EFI & we found/believe it to be from a batch of engines that were manufactured in early 1990’s and therefore prior to SVA & no record of emissions value/data, so I took this record of my engine manufactured date & V5C & Martyn’s chart to my MOT test centre & it’s passed both tests completed in last 2 years. So my advise, follow Martyn’s flow chart, check your V5C for an emissions value & if possible identify the date of manufacture of your engine & take the docs with you for MOT - if the tester says “I have to test to a pre-recorded value” ask them to check the MOT training/guidance & show them the chart, the V5C & the date of manufacture & they have to test to that. I’m also lucky here as I have a long relationship with the tester 30 + years & he was impressed with my level of knowledge / documentation when presenting Martyn’s plagiarised documentation. Happy days. - Yesterday

Never regretted buying my 13” CXR’s! I love them despite the limited tyre choice. I would suggest before you fit the tyres is get them ceramic coated, I used Gtechniq C5 wheel armour and the water still beads off of them 👍🏼 -
