Warwickshire Area meeting August
Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO posted a topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
The due date for our next meeting is 21st August. This coincides with the start of the Silverstone Festival so I will not be able to make it and others may be similarly affected. To avoid this I am considering moving the meeting to a week earlier, on the 14th August. Has anyone any objections to meeting a week earlier than usual? Also, the following month it may be better to move the meeting a week earlier to avoid it being the evening before our Curborough track day. What is the consensus of opinion. -
That’s true to a point, but if you’ve ever been properly strapped into a race car by the pit crew, it would shock you just how tight “tightly strapped in” means. I doubt any owners will strap themselves in that tight while using on the road. Also, keep in mind, with some belts, the material they’re made of is able to stretch/deform somewhat to help absorb some of the initial shock of a bad impact.

Warwickshire Area Curborough Track Day September 19th
Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO posted a topic in Track Days
The second of our usual two track days per year is on Friday, 19th September 2025. The format for this event will be the same as in previous years. Hopefully, we will have the café open this time too! Please read all of the details below and contact me as requested please. Also, please read the following disclaimer: ** To save the WSCC from any liability issues I have to let you know that the Curborough track days have been booked by Warwickshire Area Organisers independently (as they have been for the last 15 years) and are not therefore organised or sanctioned by the Westfield Sports Car Club. ** As usual we are keeping it to only 15 cars, with first choice on the limited number of places to Warwickshire Area WSCC members, then followed by the wider WSCC membership. If all the places are not filled, I will post it on the Warwickshire Area Facebook page and accept non-WSCC members to make up the numbers. I have arranged to have the on-site café provide us with food and drinks for the day. Clearly there is an additional cost for this, so the fee has been adjusted accordingly. The costs are the same as for the May event this year, It will be £102 per car/driver including food, if all 15 places are filled. Any additional driver/passenger will be £17 to cover food only (if required). I intend to open the gates around 9am, the track will open at 10am, with lunch from 1pm until 2pm and finishing at 5pm. NOTE 1: The proposed fee will cover all the costs with a small surplus, to be donated to the appropriate WSCC charity (Air Ambulance). However, if we cannot fill all the places then I will have to ask for additional funds to cover the cost of the hire. NOTE 2: I would like all monies paid by the 5th September. These track days are often oversubscribed therefore we will keep a reserve list in case of last minute withdrawals, but if places are not filled by re-sale, refunds for non-attendance cannot be made. Please follow the instructions below; 1. Send me a PM with your full name, an email address and a mobile number 2. Pay the full balance by bank transfer to the details I return to you, ASAP please 3. Read the menu below and indicate a lunch preference to pre-order. Note: breakfast sandwich is ordered on the day. Menu Breakfast - bacon & egg or sausage & egg sandwiches Lunch - Burger & chips or curry & chips Drinks - tea, coffee & squash available all day (Other items may be purchased from the cafe on the day) Finally, due to the requirements of managing the track entrance I could do with at least one assistant who is prepared to attend and help with organising without driving or alternatively a few drivers to give up driving time to assist. Please message me if you wish to volunteer. For anyone considering a track day for the first time this event is a good introduction to track driving. It is always a great day and a safe way to explore the limits of your car and yourself with only one car on the circuit at a time. If you need any more information on this event, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I will add names to this list as they are booked: 1. Ian Heawood 2. Justin Lever 3. Greg Penney 4. Nick Mucklow 5. Tim Lawton 6. Hedley Bennett 7. Tony Marley 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. Reserves Pulled out: -
Quilted tunnel cover, thought to come from Intatrim. To suit SEiW chassis. Black fabric (pleather?) with racing green trim and stitching Sadly the previous owner of the car took a fairly libertarian attitude to cutting the holes for handbrake, gear lever and loom - these are not as clean as you would like. However on the good side the butchery is at least accurate and the ragged edges would be covered by even the smallest trim surround. Cutouts for the floor chassis rails are also ugly, but also generally hidden by the seats and the footwell. Price reflects condition - £40 posted.

I do agree, but you shouldn't be moving enough to touch the cage if you're strapped in properly, even in case of a bad accident.

Bear in mind with a full cage you should wear a helmet (even though often I don't), in an accident the cage itself can kill you if you are without a helmet. Think being smacked hard around the head with a scaffold pole. Nasty.

@Greg Mills The 1/2 cage roll over protection marketed by westfield as msa roll bar thankfully shows no damage, no distortion or bends etc. Its rear diagonal bars go down to the very rear of the chassis. It protected the rear components of the car , I.e. the suspension, the fuel tank, the rear hub. The westfield hoop doesn't have the rear diagonal bars , so would not have protected the rear.

Hi, Totally new to the Westfield world so I'm not very knowledgeable on things but you said that the roll hoop might have moved ? If this is the case how do the roll hoops stand-up to a more heavy impact or even a roll-over ? Interested to know as looking to get a Westfield soon and was considering one with a cage as I think they look/feel safer. Good luck with the repair and hope it all goes smoothly.

Remember there's only 3 types of folk in this world. There's them that's Yorkshire, them that aspires to be Yorkshire, and them wi' no ambition 😊 -
Update. I took it to central garage in Brixham and they got it up on the ramp and we all had a good look at chassis and suspension. Simon , the owner sprints and hill climbs and has his own 7 style car. He could see no damage to any of the chassis or suspension, given the damage to the tyre he recommended a new wheel just in case. So I have agreed a cash in lieu settlement. They agreed with my numbers for spare parts and for my labour i used the build manual to justify 22 hours work and I went with £50 an hour , which they accepted. It's not my fault but they still kept excess of £200, so I will use legal insurance to get that back. I have ordered a new ns rear wing from westfield chesil, due end August. In mean time starting to strip it down. Have a look at my build diary for progress.

Bad Headlines, Stories & Advertisements

I have long been despairing of the decline in standards of written and spoken English. This is magnified when I see stuff like this on the BBC website... Took them a couple of hours to correct it but I am staggered that with all the various tools available how this stuff ever gets to publicly viewable pages, especially given the sensitive nature of the story. -

You know how Westfields accelerate like a missile and go round corners like they're on rails? Kinda the opposite of that. Still a hoot though. -

In the absence of the real thing, the postman bought this the other day. Obviously it’s the Caterham kit, but as it’s yellow and black I had to have it. Rejigged it so the exhaust exits on the correct side (Zetec) and lost all the Caterham badging and I’ll probably make a windscreen for it, but it’s pretty close to what we’ll be driving in a couple of weeks (hopefully!) -
