Cheddar Gorge and West Bay run out
Stuart Davis - Devon Cornwall & Somerset AO replied to Stuart Davis - Devon Cornwall & Somerset AO's topic in The Start Line
Quite a few around here. Devon and Somerset group meet in Cullompton but Dorset meet in Bridport which would suit you better. I’m planning a bit of a run around down to Portland Bill and back via Sherborne for a BBQ at mine, likely in September which you are welcome to join. I can add you to our WhatsApp group too so you know if anyone is heading out. Adge has a similar one for Dorset. -
What the postie brought today!

These arrived today, hopefully enough in here to join most of the XI loom bits together. Main loom is on order from Autosparks, have gone for a generic loom with more circuits than I currently need. It can take up to 14 weeks to arrive... will have to get on with something else for a bit... Also in recent arrivals was an IVA foglight module from MK sports cars along with a momentary toggle switch to trigger the latching relay. -

Didn’t realise there was another Westfield so local to us! We can’t wait to drive down to West Bay, especially through the tunnel… -

Hi, I have the Ford SOHC book by David Vizard, the man they call "The Wizard" of engine tuning. I have his legendary "bible" for the Ford Pinto engine, and it’s ready to turn your "sensible" Pinto into something that actually makes your neighbours nervous. Why you need this book, other than the vintage street cred. The Secret Sauce: Vizard reveals why everyone ignored this "gem" of an engine and how his lateral thinking can unlock race-level power. The "Power" List: Detailed chapters on everything from carburation and "re-inflow" valves to nitrous oxide and turbocharging. Yes, nitrous on a Pinto. Zero Guesswork: It’s packed with clear technical diagrams, dyno charts, and the kind of "Wizardry" that only comes from decades of breaking things so you don't have to. Whether you want to hold your own in modern traffic or build a racing legend, this book is your roadmap to horsepower. Don't just "maintain" your Ford—modify it until it’s unrecognisable. All this knowledge and art work for only £20 plus P&P or collect from sunny Birmingham.

Cheddar Gorge and West Bay run out
Stuart Davis - Devon Cornwall & Somerset AO posted a topic in The Start Line
Fortune smiled on me this weekend due to a mix of circumstances. Firstly, my Mondeo decided to overheat on me on the way back to my parents on Thursday, so the AA recovered me back home on Friday afternoon. Very good service I must say, one chap delivering me to Solstice Services where another chap arrived within a few mins to take me the rest of the way. Seems like it is likely a water pump or thermostat issue. Hoping it can be repaired as a) I can’t afford a replacement currently and b) I desperately want to get it through 200k miles, currently just over 195k. Secondly, Mrs Stu had a friend down, and was out and about in her car, so the net result was that the Westfield was my only means of transport for the weekend, what a shame as my daughter had her singin’, dancin’ and actin’ lesson for 3 hours on Saturday morning in Yeovil…… Thirdly, the car was back together and generally functioning apart from a broken Speedo (officer). GPS had to come to the rescue. Finally. It was dry, and a little bit sunny. I dropped the short (though growing ever taller!) one at her lesson at 10.15, then had three hours before picking her up at 13.15. I hadn’t been North in the car for a while so headed up to Cheddar Gorge. It was fairly steady going most of the way up, but just nice to be out in the sunshine. The gorge itself was quiet, and I followed a nice looking M2 until part way up where I stopped for a couple of minutes before completing the run. I then caught up with said M2 stuck behind a van in the derestricted part afterwards, and as the van turned off left, off shot the M2, so I followed . He was bl**dy quick on the straights, but I kept up through the corners and we had quite a fun run for a while before encountering traffic so I trailed him all the way down to Wells where I stopped for a quick coffee. Time was ticking on so I headed back to Yeovil arriving with 5 mins to spare. We had a fun run back to Crewkerne, had a spot of lunch and walked the dog before hopping in the car again down to West Bay. Normal fun through Beaminster Tunnel and some of the clear sections on the way down. It was a tad chilly by the coast but the seas were well worth watching and we warmed up with a hot chocolate before heading back. Spotted a nice old Landie in West Bay too So, probably 4.5 hours in the car in total. Great fun to be out; the car is going well, steering wheel mods (Blinkstop system) working very well so bring on the spring! Here is a little YT compilation for your amusement: -

Never heard of a “Red Top” zetec? -
Also, I personally use Prestone – it can be mixed with other coolants and works well in daily cars as well as track cars (as long as plain water isn’t required). One coolant for every car – that makes sense to me.

Lakes & Dales Tour 2026 - Only A Few Places Left
tex replied to Martin Aldred - Shows & Events Coordinator's topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
Yes I've just had a look and it says the struggle is still open.. It's a very twisty road with narrow lanes and steep short climbs. Caution recommended but passable with care. Right on the top of kirkstone pass if you didn't know there's a pub and a junction. Coming from glenridding at the pub you turn off down the Struggle right at the pub. The A592 is closed from there. It's not far for a diversion. There's not much options tbh.. Mountains are hard to shift... -

SteveB21 started following 2.0L Zetec black top antifreeze and 2012 Westfield FW Special Edition - 2.0 Blacktop Zetec - Blue/Black

I use Halfords OAT anti-freeze & coolant, it does the job and it’s cheap, we had 40+deg heat in the summer in Europe and had no issues. If you buy the concentrate, 5L’s should do, as you can make up as much as you need. The amount in the system will be different as it depends on what radiator you have, if you have a heater plumbed in, if you have a water rail or not……..etc. I put about 5L in mine as I don’t have a heater

Stuart replied to Martin Aldred - Shows & Events Coordinator's topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
@tex I've investigated and it looks to me that the best alternative is down The Struggle from the A592 to Ambleside. Unless of course you know better -
Hi Mark - the 2.0 Zetec with standard radiator will take about 5.5 litres of antifreeze mix. I don't know about ready-mix, but the neat antifreeze supplied with my kit by Westfield was blue AutoChem Antifreeze & Coolant. CarPlan BlueStar is directly equivalent if you can't find AutoChem. They need to be changed every 2 years. If you don't know what antifreeze/coolant is currently used make sure you give the system a VERY good flush so you don't end up with incompatible antifreezes.
