You're gonna have to explain that one to me please Rob π -
Yep, my Westfield with full cage is super stiff compared to some kits I've been in with just a roll bar.

I had one on my Tiger. Didn't realise it was only cosmetic until I looked one day and saw it was just bolted on with one nut and bolt each side and could probably be bent to 90Β° by a strong wind π

The Kit and Sports Car Show at Lincoln is the one I was thinking of. It's on at the end of this month I believe? Although I also hear it's been cancelled? - Today

Disadvantages of a full Cage ?
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) replied to Steve G.'s topic in The Start Line
I did try searching, but unfortunately, the old faithful sites with parts weights seem to have finally succumbed to time and disappeared. (not really surprised, they must have been twenty or more years old at this point, with the old owners not having much involvement for some time). -

Not a lot, compared to the others, but then it is NOT a safety device and is not structural, it's a cosmetic item, although on an FW it does act as the rear support for the roof. -

Instead of seeing this as a reason not to attend, see it as a reason to attend: volunteer, camp over, get fed and watered for free! -

Yea, I know they didn't move through choice, but their choice could have been in the centre of the country! It added an hour to the drive! Stoneleigh is the shorter of the x2 screenshots. The showground selected moved further to the south/West.. Making a day journey impossible now. It was just possible previously. -
Disadvantages of a full Cage ?
Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO replied to Steve G.'s topic in The Start Line
my old RAC bar was quite heavy - something like 12kg I think, so changing to a full cage only picked up about 15kg total, but I felt the increased body stiffness was immediately obvious on the road, so a great improvement just for that. -
I've often wondered how much a cage weighs, that's helpful info for me ta @Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO helps me compare my heavy old thing weight-wise to cars without a full cage. Anyone know how much an MSA/RAC or Jap bar weighs? Hopefully I've got the correct names this time? π

Disadvantages of a full Cage ?
Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO replied to Steve G.'s topic in The Start Line
It's quite light (well under 30kg) so easy to hang from the ceiling while fitting and just lift/lower a few times while carefully drilling the holes with step drills etc -
I won't be rushing into anything, I'm away on a road trip to the Alps in a couple of weeks and will be towards the end of September before I'm back.

My condolences, I know how much passion and attachment theses cars create within us. A sad day indeed, I wish you well on the next part of your car journey. Hopefully you can find a suitable alternative for that dopamine hit. A Lotus maybe?

Thanks for the reply. Might be a good starting point for me to modify I'm interested, I wonder which ones would be the closest match

Youβll see plenty of open cars left open too! Just make sure if thereβs is anything left in there, itβs well tucked away, not valuable, and not likely to get blown out of the car or anything overnight, the circuit is a big open place, so does occasionally get windy.
