What the postie brought today!
Flying Carrot Steve replied to Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset's topic in The Start Line
But smaller contact patch so potentially less grip? It's a complex thing I reckon, tyre choice. So many variables to weigh up, some good on one side, some good on the other. - Today

Zetec 1.8 silvertop road/race/hillclimb and sprint engine and gearbox
Rich Vaughan posted a topic in Parts for Sale
Zetec 1.8 Race engine Professionally built, blueprinted balanced etc by race team in the 1990's for and won the Westfield Race series Championship in the hands of Martin (MGG on here) who I bought it from with hardly any mileage on it – I believe only a coupleof thousand road miles additional to the race mileage. Since my purchase I developed it to power our Prelit Westfield Modprod hill climber The car was quite succesful in a short 2024 season. Best result was winning FTD at 3 Sisters in the hands of my eldest son Matt, closely followed by younger son Tom who took 2FTD beating single seaters and 2.0 turbo XE Westfields along the way!! We've now decided to go to Turbocharged bike engine power hence the sale of all this. Original spec as purchased by me in 2023 1.8litre Silvertop Zetec Cams: Inlet 1.8 standard. Exhaust 2.0 standard (both like new see photo) both fitted with Kent vernier pulleys (worth over £250 just for pulleys) Lowered alloy sump with baffles and mod pick up (these can be a fortune to buy or to build!) Martin reckons that he was seeing around 156bhp with this set up using Weber management on twin 40 carbs. The move to Yamaha R1 4XV Mikunis and Nodiz should at least equal this if not better it but eminently more reliable and driveable. Current spec and new parts added 2023/2024: Fuelling/Induction Yamaha R1 carbs on brand new Danst alloy inlet – this set up alone cost £500 Nodiz Gen X Pro engine management and loom Ancillaries: New lightweight 3.5kg alternator and pulley New Water pump and pulley New torsional damper/pulley Lightweight uprated starter motor Mx5 clutch driven plate and New Mondeo 3 part clutch kit New plug leads, timing (cam belt) belt, ancillary belt, thermostat housing and all gaskets Tony Law Exhaust manifold adapted to fit Zetec Approx Total value of engine as re-built in 2023/24 £1984 Transmission: MX5 5 speed chose for strength, reliabilty and cost over type original type 9 Ford which are limited to only 150bhp unles investing a fortune. The Mazda box will handle 250 bhp and cost a lot less than a Quaife box Mazda MX 5 5 speed gearbox converted to fit narrow Westfield chassis 6mm thick steel adapter plate converts gearbox to fit Zetec mounts Extended spigot bearing fitted to accommodate adapter plate thickness. Clutch slave cylinder adapter plate fitted to take the MX slave cylinder(new) Dunning and Fairbank propshaft MX5 to Ford English axle diff £ Approx Total value of transmission £630 Selling price: Complete package Engine with all ancilliaries and Transmission £1750 ....or Engine with ancilliaries less Transmission £1500 ....or Transmission package complete £450 I might consider Selling some of the major items seperately ie Nodiz/Gearbox/Prop/Exhaust etc for a decent offer Some action footage for you ignore tacho it was faulty: -

The intake on my car is infront the block behind the radiator. My turbo is mounted under the manifold so the intake is relatively low compared to yours. -
Gadge started following Westfield SEiW 1991 2.0l Pinto

Specification: 2.0 Pinto Kent FR22 cam. Twin Dellorto DHLA40s. Extended sump. 5 speed type 9. Cortina front brakes, Escort rear drums. Westfield diff housing. Full weather gear. 24,000 miles, although this may increase if the weather stays nice. Owned by me since 1994 but need the space for other projects. Hoping it can go to a home where it gets some use again. It had several trips to Le Mans in the 90s. It's always been a road, not a track car. It’s been off the road for the best part of 20 years (garaged), so I’ve spent quite a lot of time and a fair bit of cash recommissioning it mechanically. Have done about 200 miles since the MOT and sorted a few minor niggles. My intent was to make the car mechanically sound for its next owner. It’s better now than it’s ever been, maybe I should keep it 😉 Recent work: Engine – timing belt and tensioner replaced. New fast road electronic distributor fitted. New coil, HT leads and plugs. Valve clearances checked & adjusted. Timing set. Oil changed. Fuel hoses replaced. Cooling system flushed and coolant replaced. 4 branch manifold and stainless silencer (with transferable lifetime guarantee). Gearbox and diff oil have also been replaced. Carbs stripped, ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt with genuine Dellorto service kit. Previously had rolling road setup and jetted. Recently balanced, good emissions during MOT. Brakes – master cylinder reconditioned (re-sleeved), front callipers replaced, new pads and shoes, new fluid. Seats – one of the original Restall seats had been damaged by mice so car now has some Intratrim Voyager (Narrow) seats fitted which suit the car as they are black with red piping, Original seats are in good condition (other than mouse damage) and available by negotiation if wanted. Seat belts ( inertia reel type as I find harnesses a pain) have been replaced. Fittings are in place for harnesses if preferred. Tonneau does have a rip (still useable) but I have a new (unfitted) tonneau, and a hood bag available by negotiation. New headlights, steering rack gaiters, ball joint boots, fuel sender and manual fan switch. MOT until end July 2026. Only advisory on recent MOT was “Passenger seat not fitted”, my MOT tester has a sense of humour. Tester was very complimentary about the car. Body work is in good condition for a 30 year old fibreglass car. A couple of small star cracks and the gel coat has faded in places. The chassis and suspension would benefit from some repainting and the carpets could do with replacing. Price - £7,250 Gary – 07551-883078 or email garydmahon@outlook.com. I’m in Nottingham. Please ask for more pictures or any more information.

Interesting, where have you placed your cold air intake? I'm always interested in how other turbo cars are done differently to mine. I'm in a similar situation atm though! Started to do one job, then decided may as well do as many as I can given September is closing in. -
