    My original Westfield - Q98LDV

Hi I have just watched a two part You tube video of a Westfield SEiW in yellow , reg Q98 LDV that I am pretty sure I built back in 2005/2006, unfortunately I have no photos etc and memory not so good, but if anyone knows if the car is still about, I would be pleased to hear from you. If it was the one I built it was in Somerset.

    NEW PROJECT WANTED

Those photos look like '90's Kit type bodywork, not 2000's onwards ZK bodywork, not necessarily a problem other than not having been made for 25+ years, but does make me wonder how much else may be much older than you may think. Then again, the price isn't outrageous either for a V5'd car. But deffo one for very close inspection of what you're getting.

    NEW PROJECT WANTED

Hi Richard, I did examine as much of the chassis as possible. There are areas of grey primer which may cover repairs. As the entire project was (is) stacked on a trailer, having been "evicted" from the barn where it resided for 13 years, I was not able to measure diagonals or twist. The suspension pick-up points and removed wishbones seem to be OK but again, I was unable to make a thorough check. There are two complete sets of wheels and tyres, a set of Team Dynamic Motorsports allys with Toyos and a set of Compomotive allys with Avon Turbospeeds... none of which appear to be damaged. For anyone (not me) competent with GRP repairs, the body panels seem repairable. The extent and location of the visible damage not giving much of a clue regarding the accident. If I had taken the project for myself I would have completed the tear down to a bare chassis and blast cleaned it to reveal any issues. With the right fixtures trueing the chassis (if required) would not be too difficult. (I had to completely cut, shut and gusset a Dutton Phaeton many years ago as nothing was square - and that was from the factory!) It would have also allowed me to mod the chassis to independent rear and build it with an MX5 NC 2 litre Duratec and 6spd drive train transplant. With modest tuning that would deliver 230+ bhp - free from MOT test restrictions as the V5 is a Q plate. Hope that helps? Geoff, aka NotMcGoohan

Car helmet - what do you use..

Yes, the more I think about wearing a helmet in a fully caged car, the more I think HANS is a good idea. That being said, drive well within limits and we should all be hopefully accident free 🤞

Hi all, Thank you for your replies. @NotMcGoohan Do you know if the chassis has any damage? Cheers Richard
  10. INAUGURAL WESTFIELD XI MEET UP Looking at the number of people available to meet up on the two dates, it looks like: 6th Sept: Possibly 2 (including me). 20th Sept: Possibly 4 (including me). Any objections to scrubbing the 6th and going with the majority for the 20th, to save me two trips along the A41? Cheers. Morris.

    NEW PROJECT WANTED

Hi Richard, Was offered a 'barn find' SE1 a few days ago. Kit is 2009, registered in 2012 and has 80'odd miles on it. Was substantially stripped in same year following an excursion through a hedge! Has 2.0 Pinto and 5 spd box. One piece rear tub complete with both clamshell and cycle front wings. All component parts seem to be present. Nose, bonnet, sides and wings all have degrees of damage. Located on Worcs/Salop border. Owner asking £3200 (I'm sure there is wiggle room) Has V5. I've turned it down as my current (see Green Westie topic) 'The Prisoner' build is yet to be fully finished. Shakedown at Castle Combe revealed suspension issues!

Where are all the green cars!?

My 2000 SE is in original Westie Racing Green. Nose has been refurbed! Was a Bangers & Cash purchase 30 months ago with a cooked Kent engine. Intention is to dress it as a 'The Prisoner' copy. Engine build by Aldon.

    Alloy Coolant tank (used)

I have my coolant tank for sale. made by colin at Aluminium Fabrications 2 years ago, but i now have a different setup, so this is no longer required. I think the tank he copied (dimensionaly), was the fiesta mk2 but I could be very wrong. I have attached a pic of the original so you can compare. It has a 22mm feed and 8mm bleed. The Cap not included and is dependant on you engine running pressure anyway 👍 Cap to fit this is the 1/4 turn type I would like £60 collected or plus postage.

Hedtec also sometimes offers even better prices for set of helmet and Hans . Worth to metion that car helmet worth to have Hans mounting points. Free in case of hedtec.

Yes, if you crash a bike and it catches fire, the rider is normally 200 feet away in a tree with severe gravel rash..... with a car, you are captive until you get the belts off and start running 😂
  16. I have 2 original front cycle wings of my car for sale. They measure approx 225mm inside the edges. I had these fitted with "standard" 205 tyres they fitted snugly. I upgraded the tyres to 205 Kumho v70a and they didn't fit over them. So probably best suited to 195 profile? If you would like any specific pics or dims please let me know 👍 Looking for £40 ono Collection only as they would be a pain to wrap up.

    What the postie brought today!

The last piece of the puzzle for the cars annual service.... After using Jap Service Parts many times for the genuine Honda OEM filter (the best option for the F20c), I found a slightly better deal from RHD Performance so gave them a try.... delivered quickly and well packaged 👍

My understanding was that the wider visor openings vent differences etc were largely down to the fire ratings required for car motorsport compliance, though I have heard said the visor thing may also be partly down to more flying chunks of metal aimed at you in a big track "un-scheduled rapid disassembly situation" with a car, than you'd normally get on a bike!

Car helmet - what do you use..

I normally use a Nolan N87 bike helmet on the road and a Zamp RZ65D carbon (with HANS device) on track. I was going to get a Hedtec for track until I found the Zamp at a bargain price. I chose the Nolan as it didnt have the extended rear aero so it didn't push my head forwards in the seat. I also have a cheap Shox Assault Evo bike helmet that I use for passengers. It is really interesting how different the two types of helmet are to live with. Bike helmets have a wider field of view with a larger visor aperture, plus built in drop down dark internal visor is great on the road, the pinlock visors (essentially double glazing) prevents steaming up, and they are made to accommodate intercoms if you wish. Another good feature is quick release chin straps in a bike helmet, where the Motorsport ones use fiddlier (but more secure) D ring fastening. Also, if you wear glasses, the bike helmets accommodate these more comfortably. The Zamp is 3 times the price of the Nolan but is a lot lighter (about 1.4kg vs 1.7kg and 2.1kg for the Shox). The downside on the road of the FIA/Snell compliant helmet is that the visor aperture is noticeably narrower (a pain at T-junctions!), there is less ventilation, no pinlock visor, no quick release chin strap, and no internal flip down dark visor. Interestingly, despite the large chin spoiler I get far more helmet lift above 100mph in the Zamp than the Nolan, probably due in part to being so tall... In short, I find the bike helmets more convenient and comfortable to live with on the road if you can find one without the extended rear aero.

I know a few of the Speed Series guys, back in the day used to use and recommend these; they were really popular with the new drivers just starting out, as well as the more experienced guys looking for good value.

Basically why I went for the Shark one, it's not a pivot flip-front but the whole face covering part is on elastic and just pulls forward and up so the face is completely open. Comes in handy if your specs steam up while stopped at lights etc that's for sure.

Narrow Body 1990 SE Car Cover

Hi All, Please can someone recommend a good supplier for a narrow body car cover. Car is stored outside at times, but doesn't have to be too heavy. Elasticated if possible to stop dust blowing under and up into the cover. Cheers.

I've always wondered what the differences between car and bike helmets is. Good to know. Those Hedtec ones seem decent value too compared to some bike helmets I've seen.

When buying my first motorsport safe helmet for the Westfield, I aske in the shop what the difference, aero aids aside was between bike and car helmets. Their answer was that they're designed for very different types of accident; bike helmets were designed to protect you if you came off, hit your head against the ground, or a vehicle, and then slid, with abrasion resistance being part of it. Whilst car helmets were designed to protect your head from bouncing off the roll cage - a potentially much higher psi impact force, because of the way smaller contact area, along with a cage being brutally unforgiving against something like your head. There was also a big difference in fire protection, again, with bikers expecting to have to survive being thrown clear, whilst car drivers would be strapped in until they could extricate themselves/be extracted. That said, for just aeroscreened road use, if buying again, without having a cage, because I wear glasses, I'd probably go for a flip front helmet, which AFAIK, are only available in bike helmets?

This. I like my Hedtec lid. Got a glass- not carbon-fibre one. Isn't too heavy, possibly lighter than my motocross-rated downhill lid.
