I'm glad someone else has the same issue with flies i only run an rac rollback at present I drive a fair bit after dark so every couple of trips out the bar looks like it's covered in fibreglass or should I say flyberglass it's a job to clean can only imagine a whole cage being a nightmare

I thought I had spoken to custom cages. I don't think anything is listed on their website, did you have to leave the car with them ?

Disadvantages of a full Cage ?
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary replied to Steve G.'s topic in The Start Line
I would expect it to cost more than Cagedlaser to be honest (and probablu weigh more) but I do like the way it looks -
Yeah you're right, just seen the link. It looks nice for competition, might be too much for road use π€ Not sure about the price, however they list free shipping in UK and EU on their website...

I absolutely love my full cage, for all the reasons you mentioned. I'm even up for the ballet bit!
-
For me no down sides to a full cage, stiffens the chassis, full roll over protection, somewhere to haul yourself out, and best of all daughter can use it as a ballet bar π€·ββοΈ Custom cage made to a very high standard, in a bigger diameter tube than the msa cage. And the The ballet bar, 2nd position apparently π€·ββοΈ I have just thought of a downside to a full cage.....the amount of flies and bugs that get splattered on it!

Silverstone Festival 22nd to 24th August 2025

Are you sure @marcusb? I crossed the finished line and ran home before youβd even switched your phone on π -
That's the petty bar. I've seen it used with rollbars to strengthen the chassis, not sure how useful it is with a full cage π€ That cage looks very robust tho, but I'm quite sure it isn't FIA homologated, so there is really no point on getting it instead of the Caged/Westfield one which is.

@Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO youβve got it wrong with the quavers!!!! His a northerner so to soft for him π€£ Iβm going for a bag of Pork scratching, I reckon he will take the deal π€ -
I've never been sure about cages where they have that bar on rose joints that comes down into the cabin. Will surely add rigidity and help prevent the cage collapsing if upside down but how safe is it if you are being thrown around inside the car, surely it will just be something else (possibly nearer) to be smashed into?

My son and I fitted my FIA cage in a weekend. Fitted four eye bolts into some 4x2 cross beams, feed some rope through and hoisted the cage over the car. Lined it all up, marked on masking tape and checked, then checked again. Pilot drilled the key fixings front first and all was good. I decided to weld in the side impact bars in, rather than bolt as it was a neater job and avoided drilling yet more holes in chassis box section. All in all pretty straightforward. Definitely stiffens up the chassis. In terms of getting in and out.... yes you've gotta be pretty flexible... Mines lowered floors and id say for me a detachable steering wheel is mandatory. That said I'm overweight, 65y old, 6ft 2 inches but still can get in and out reasonably OK. Not sure for how many more years though π€. Getting in, is left leg in first, head up through the hole in roll cage, grab the top, right foot in and lower your bum into the seat. Getting out is trickier, head up through the gap, right leg out, duck under and left leg out... I'll have to video the manoeuvre, it'll make for some good laughs π

Wiltshire Meeting August 21st 7pm
Steve G. replied to Steve G.'s topic in Local Area Meets, Events & Kit Car Shows
We had our meet up this evening. Roger who lives near me in Andover came along. He has a small collection of Duttons. He has been using one a lot recently as his daily Rover needed work for the MOT. It passed yesterday so he came along in that. Stuart who owns a very nice Westfield also came along. I haven't seen any other Westfields recently so it was interesting to see another one parked next to mine. The Pub was nice but reasonably busy. I might have to research other local pubs to see what else is around. I've had interest from a couple of Robin Hood owners so it might be worth moving to somewhere more central. I completely forgot to take pictures, sorry.
