    Which Starter Motor?

Hi, I’m a new member so please bear with me whilst I try to highlight my problem. Having acquired an unfinished 2004 SE Wide A Class I’m currently reinstalling the power unit and drive chain as the previous owner removed these along with the Type 9 gearbox, ECU, hubs, caliper/discs, differential and wheels. I established that the project was completed some 10 years ago and several road tests were undertaken but the it was never registered so an IVA will be required. The engine is a Zetec 1.8 that I purchased from another Club member who bought it from Chris Broster in 2024, so I’m hoping that this may assist with my query. Since purchasing the engine I’ve obtained and fitted the following: Dunnell modified sump (previously another members damaged item) Westfield steel Type 9 bellhousing Zetec to Type 9 sandwich plate CCT 132 Release Bearing (supplied with Retroford Clutch) New Spigot Bearing RetroFord Stage 1 Zetec to Type 9 Pinto Clutch I’ve retained the Zetec Flywheel but had it ‘drilled’ to accept the Retroford Clutch. All fitted together nicely so everything has recently been installed. I got very confused about which starter motor to use and eventually went for the one in the attached photo which was a perfect fit, albeit. However, upon the first attempt to spin the motor their was an unhealthy sound and no rotation. I’ve since removed the starter motor and I’m now more confused than ever as I now regret purchasing a fairly cheap and possibly incorrect item. I had thought that the Lucas LRS 707 which I thought I’d got was the correct one but, further investigating has also suggested one from a Sierra 1.8 CVH or 2.0 DOHC and the use of adaptor plates!!! So any help would be appreciated before I hit the Diazepam. Tony.
  3. Just a reminder of the XI meetup extravaganza taking place this coming Saturday 20th September at Turweston Aerodrome, starting at 09:00 (or thereabouts) rain or shine. Other 'X' cars, '7's and tin tops most welcome - we'll try to refrain from the usual comments 😃...

    Recent snap of your Westfield

We've been busy on the bodywork this summer. We have already repainted the nose, bonnet and scuttle, so only the tub was left. Removed all the old paint, repaired holes and cracks and have now finished primer. The primer here is after about 4 rattle cans and it took 12 plus 2 high build in the end. Very happy with the results. Colour is going on, when we have the next dry weekend. And yes, the same colour as before, Ferrari Old English White.
  8. Us four will be coming again this year. Looking forward to it. Thanks for organising @AndrewBClarke
  9. Yesterday
  10. I have simulated my body weight in the Westfield to set up the alignment after replacing a wishbone And by the way – don’t throw away your old brake discs, they can be really useful!
  11. Wow ! That is something ! Re flight suits- take it ! and use in Westfield , to drive on hot day or mechanic work, we use similar ,.comfortable, breathable, lot of pockets, and some nomex - thin but always better than cotton material.

  18. You could make a weekend of it. The Bentley Brook Inn has rooms on a B&B basis and all the details are on their website - www.bentleybrookinn.co.uk We are staying over and going to see the Chatsworth House Christmas Decorations on the Sunday - www.chatsworth.org Last year we went to the Chatsworth Christmas Market but learnt that the cost of the parking was high. The parking is free if you pay to look round the house making it better value for money.
  19. How many of you have just winced at the term 'Christmas' ?? And yes - November - is not a typo. Wanted to keep things fresh and obviously start the season with a bang. Having learnt from last year, this is not the Classic Car Show weekend so no need to double stack your social life! Also being early hopefully avoids double booking so we can eat more Christmas Dinners in the season and no need to eat two on the same day! Location - The Bentley Brook Inn, Fenny Bentley, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 1LF Open to any member of the WSCC plus partner and also Club Sponsors, but numbers are limited so PLEASE RESERVE YOUR SPACE ASAP. Cost - your choice of two or three courses from the menu below - £25.95 for 2 courses or £28.95 for three. All drinks, coffees, or extras can be bought from the bar. Like last year, the venue would like me to collect the payments so I will need your money and confirmation BEFORE THE 15TH OCTOBER. I do not plan on chasing people for money (you were all good last year!) so please pay up now. If the money is not received by the 15th October, I'll have to assume you are not coming. I can give a full refund of any payments up to the point when the numbers have been confirmed (ie the 15th October) but after that, refunds will be at the discretion of the venue. I have already paid the deposit back in November last year! Please drop me a private message and I'll give you BACS or PayPal details. Looking forward to a really good get together.

    What the postie brought today!

Thank you . Given the current weather, I think I'll pop him into Winter guise and fit the tyres, roof and doors so I'm ready for anything. On a separate note, I'm trying to find a replacement centre cap for one that fell off when out driving. Sure I won't find an orange one but all can find currently is in the US and they won't ship to the UK. It's an LC35 Team Dynamics and they seem like rocking horse do-do unfortunately.
