Insurance companies

Got a quote from my current insurance company for a renewal of £226 for 5000 miles fully comp, so shopped around and got another for £170 same deal, then went back to my insurance company and asked them if they could beat the last quote they did by £5. so now it's £165, why the hell do they play these games??  pleased though I have to admit.

They are nothing more than a bunch of crooks - IMHO of course.

Unfortunate fact of life these days...  My renewal from A-Plan for the two tin-tops came in at £680 (for both) and after checking on Confused.com (new target £580) and Chris Knot (newer target £475) A-Plan re-evaluated their price to £471.  Still pleased with the service, but would rather they'd be less greedy at renewal time...

When the regulators and the media finally get hold of the insurance industry they will give "bankers" niighthoods!

im surprised by Aplan ive always found them good. they couldnt help with the Z and i put that down to not being the kind of car they insure regularly but have always been good for the westy

you recon? it'll just be another white wash were the review goes in all guns blazing then get cut down and comes up with some tosh about them being competitive and ok but they could do a little bit to "ease the pain" (read give us a stick to bite down on.....)

£209  big savings well worth the effort to get it reduced.

Oh absolutely, but wouldn't it be refreshing if the broker (in this instance A-Plan, but could have easily be any other) got me that deal straight away...  or at least near enough...

They might call it throwing money away when they might not have to.  Well done PeteMac  ;)

They all play this game (car or house insurance, energy suppliers etc etc) - it's called "taking you for granted" - they hope you won't notice or can't be bothered to shop around and switch.

And it really peeeeeeeeeeeees me off and any company that does this I invariably move away from (I don't even offer them a chance to "match" it because as others have said, why on earth haven't they appreciated your loyalty and existing custom until now !! ).

Sometimes of course companies (and don't forget many of the insurance specialists are simply brokers) will entice you in with a good price in the first year (perhaps at a loss or minimal margins) and then the following year try and make more out of you with a price hike saying that the previous years price was "an introductory discount" - again, I give them the elbow.

I have found that policies through LV= (Highway) which both A Plan and others offer have been fairly reliable and shown little (if any) increase - well it has so far with our Land Rover, but I'll wait and see what happens with the Westie and A Plan in December's renewal.

I prefer not to keep switching around unless I have to and have often stayed with a particular insurer (or energy company) because I trust their brand or customer service more than just the cheapest price available. :)

Sometimes you get what you pay for. The only time you will know how good a company is is when you need them. All companies will try special deals to entice you in, but if it looks too goo to be true, it probably is.

I was burgled, NFU have been brilliant in sorting things out. Workmen who came were surprised at how things were being done as others the work for would repair just the damage, not the full room for example. I would prefer quality over a few quid.

you do but if your a struggling family on a low wage you have to take what you can get. i can see where people get miffed by it. her indoors pays more for a worthless 106 than i do for a convertible. they are parked next to each other. (well sort of i cant be seen to associate with riff raff like that) i know i have more NCB but not much. then you get stats that say a place is 27th in the country and car crime is at a record low for 10+yrs and the insurers all still load it on.

one of the brokers we all use for the westys told me that pretty much all liverpool postcodes have at least a weighting on them. so then you jump over the mersey into the likes of birkenhead and wallasy and they have a magical CH chester code and are half the price. i dont stop for red lights there it's that ropey! :d  as for ellesmere port ......  ...... our AO is there so say no more!

If I had a spare few days I could add to this..... Having been an underwriter on company book and freelance basis I have some tales.... It is perhaps the last industry where your word is your bond and I know of many claims that have been paid having arranged cover over dinner or lunch....

I always ask my broker for the underlying rate and novitiate a placement fee.... Depend what you are insuring mind.... For small premium work (under £1m I would work on a brokerage - over that a fee)

Ive found that most results on comparison sights are agents

A few years ago i had an alfa brera

1st year was just under £400

Reminder was just over £700 from norwich union

Searched the web and got it with a budget company for £360 - norwich union were the insurer !!

Just done it with buildings and contents - saved nearly £150 on the reminder quote

Stuff loyalty - ive got upgrades to buy
