12 months  work

Hi chaps

Been on here many times searching for info over the last 12months whilst rebuildling and updating a 92 seiw so i thought it only right to show you what ive been up to.My name is Jon and currently work as a technician in a ford dealer in rochdale near manchester Ive been involved with a few kit car builds but never one of my own, my dad has just retired and fancied a bit of a project so we have spent 12 months playing around in the evenings and weekends knocking this tired looking westy into shape

So here goes. Got hold of this car very cheap as the guy who owned it was moving to France and could not take it with him it had been unused since 2004 and stood in his garage,it was a bit scruffy here and there with a standard pinto fitted, luckily the engine and gearbox had been leaking oil for sometime so the chassis is immaculate for a car of this age due to being covered in oil for sometime

The running gear removed and the alterations started as im fitting a 2.0 zetec we are  on a small budget so all fabrication work and mods will be DIY

18963.jpeg

New engine dropped in to way up what chassis alterations will be required to install the zetec

18956.jpeg

A couple of chassis mods required to allow for exhaust manifold, and the steering column angle will need to be increased  to allow diagonal brace to be welded in on offside.

18973.jpeg

A lick of satin black paint and some nice new alloy panelling and thats one job ticked off the list

18958.jpeg

While the engine is back out the bores were checked and new rings fitted all crank bearings were like new so just question of check everything over and carefully rebuild, the head had the valve seats recut and some light port work and matching was carried out .A standard escort sump was shortened and baffled and the volume increased similar to the scholar engines item i got a friend to tig the new bottom on and weld in the baffles for £40

18966.jpeg

The front and rear wishbones were scruffy as were the uprights so a trip to the powder coaters was required  all the hub components were re zinc coated as were all the bolts

18959.jpeg

18957.jpeg

With the engine back in one piece with new sump fitted along with 1.8 flywheel i had to sort out exhaust and inlet manifolds so a stainless exhaust manifold was found on ebay from a cvh a new lazer cut zetec flange was welded on and matched to the ports. We made our own inlet manifold to suit the bike carbs using the motorbike inlet rubbers rather than bits of hose like many others around

At this point the bodyshop at work was quiet so i had to change my plans and get it there

18967.jpeg

when the car returned home all the trim work was dealt with the boot lid was made from a large piece of glass fibre cut from an iveco van roof and covered with 3m vinyl

A slim high level led brake light fitted to roll bar

18968.jpeg

18969.jpeg

the car came with a brand new carpet set(unused) these were fitted along with JKcomposite seats and a carbon look dash

18971.jpeg

The car came together quite quickly from this point and not many photos were taken sadly so here it is almost finished

18972.jpeg

Its painted in ford imperial blue with ford panther black front mudguards with home made carbon stone guards and carbon look mirrors

Nice work!

I can't stop my self from saying that the brown carpet set looks a little out of place amongst the blue and the black general colour scheme, but I am not know for my fashion tips...

Should be good fun car that!

You have a point about the carpet i tried to change the colour with carpet dye to black but it has a high nylon content it wouldnt soak in and just rubbed off, i only found 1 used black carpet and it was knackered this car has the narrow tunnel if anybody has a mint black carpet set for 92 seiw i would be interested
