Buying an SEIGHT

BONER

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for an SEIGHT...

I could do with a few helpful pointers about what to look out for when going shopping for one of these beasties!

You may even have something for sale...

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Always check the chassis number with the factory to make sure it is the real thing or it can be hard to insure.

Unless the engine has been built by a reputable specialist always be wary of power claims made by the owner.  And if it has a TVR engine in it then subtract 50HP from the claim!

The T5 gearbox is better than the LT77.

Ask if the car has had any overheating problems.  The all-alloy engine won't like it if it has been overheated.

Regards,

Ian

I'll be after one too in a few weeks' time. Where's a good place to look for classified ads? I've trawled the web and found a grand total of three so far  :(

Have you tried the club magazine  ???  Issued bi-monthly to all WSCC members  :D  :)  ;)  You can download a form from this site and join up - before you buy a car  ;)  :p  :D  :)

And join in all the economical VFM WSCC track days as well

Hope that wasn't too much of an obvious promo  :)  ;)  :D

Andy,

I know that Terry Nightingale (should be) getting one in in a week or so's time...

It's a 3.5 injection, yellow with black interior...

4.5K ish on the clock and they'll be looking for about £10.5K for it...

Hope that helps, find their details @ www.terrynightingale.co.uk

Not interested in it yourself then Matt? I'd have kept it quiet if I were you :D

I'm not quite going to be ready to look seriously for a few weeks yet, so I'll probably have to let that one go, but it is almost exactly what I'm looking for (except the colour - prefer something a bit more subtle). Shame...

Cheers

Andy.

Subtle eh ? How about Navy Blue ? Now, where have I seen one of those ? :p

I'm keeping my eye out for Matt, and if I see any, I'll let you fight it out for the address...might even be able to sell tickets :D

Not to sure about that one myself either...

Quite fancy holding out for a 3.9 - don't care about the colour too much (my 2 year old daughter would be delighted if it was Barbie pink) but I'm not sure if that came as a colour option from the Westfield factory?

As for fighting it out for the address...

Let's wait to see if it's worth fighting for!

Does anyone have £2,500 they would like to give me in order for me to purchase the above car and then write the cover story for the July issue of WCSS...

Hey for that sort of money I'll even let you take it for a spin (or two!;)

Alternatively I have a fat Staffordshire Bull Terrier that just so happens to be on the Market for the same price...

Offers/cheques made payable to Matt Bone Mental Car Fund...

Thank you!

That really depends on how many Safeway have in stock...

By the way the car's in Belfast...

Still tempted though!

It's a nice looking motor - I'm sorely tempted, but it's a bit pricey for me, sadly :(

There's another one on Auto Trader that just appeared today too:

2002 WESTFIELD 3.9 V8 SEiGHT Club Roadster

2002 Lookalike, new, zero miles race tuned 240BHP, Holley carb, alloy wheels, MOT, private plate. 8 chromed sidepipes,. £12995.

Not quite sure what '2002 lookalike' means - there's no photo, and I can't believe that a real 2002 car, or any car with zero miles on the clock, would go for ten grand less than the list price. If anyone feels like trying to find out, I'd love to know what the car really is...

That does look nice, BLIMEY 4.6 v8  haha

How heavy would one of them be? 600kg ish?  HOLD ON MAMA

Andy, why are you looking for a seight? why not a BEC?

Not judging, just cant decide between the two myself, they are both so nice (never been in a seight though)

The quality on the seights we saw at the factory was simply superb

Why a SEiGHT? Because of the torque, really. I'm going to use it as a road car rather than a track day toy, so I want the flexibility of being able to put my foot down and GO, rather than having to keep changing gear and revving the engine. I really think I'd find a bike engined car a bit manic.

It's the same reason I prefer the engine in my PPP-equipped UK Impreza rather than the STI 7 I drove a couple of weeks ago - the STI undoubtedly had more power, but pulling away from lights and roundabouts in 1st or 2nd gear, my car definitely has the edge in flexbility. I think the big engine would suit my driving style better.

It'd be nice to retain the performance with a fat passenger too :D
