:( Hi,

I’ve got a 1991 sei wide and the pedal box looks c**p

It’s a modified Mk1 or 2 Escort box with an ally box around it.It seems big compared to other peoples(ooooo-er  mrs)

What should be in the car??

If it's got a modified Mk1/2 Escort pedal box, then that is what's meant to be in there.

You used to be able to get a "proper" Westfield pedal box, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been available for at least 7 years. Phone the factory (01384 400077) and ask if they can still make the replacement "offset" pedal box. I call it an offset pedal box, 'cos it sits to the offside of the steering column. The newer pedal boxes sit above the column, 'cos the column is mounted below the chassis rail at the footwell end, rather than above it. If your column is below the the chassis rail (ie exits the footwell through the ally panel of the footwell) then you should be able to replace it with the bog standard pedal box. If the column is totally above the footwell, then you won't. If you can get an offset pedal box, you will need to modify the Escort pedal box mounts quite radically (well, cut 'em out actually) and weld in some runners to mount the new pedal box to.

If you can get a pedal box, it's prety easy to do, if not type........   ;)

Good question. I'm working from memory (and through a bout of the 'flu) of my narrow bodied car on which I did the pedal box conversion. I was sure when I wrote the above that it sits on the offside, but now you've said that it could well be the nearside :0 Either way, it's an offset 'box that sits to one side of the steering column, and the current or later designed pedal boxes won't fit in it's place.
