Bike Engine Servicing

Hi,

Can any of the BEC brigade advise on basic servicing for these engines ??

Am thinking of a used Fireblade / Blackbird or Hayabusa engine.

What sort of servicing do these require ?

- Is it just a matter of changing the oil frequently ?

- OR, are there lots of nasty chains and belts to replace and other costly bit ??

- ANything i should look out for when buying a used one ???

Cheers,

Chris

No more so than CEC's.

New oil/filter, clutch assy (if the engine is more than a few years old) and plugs etc when you get the engine, if carb'd rejet it, balanced and then RR'd.

Normal maintenance as per the bike manual is fine, just change the oil more frequently.

Be aware when changing spark plugs on some bike engines, you sometimes require the plug socket that comes with the bike - certainly on my ZX9R's, no generic tool of the correct socket size was narrow/long enough to get down the holes. I ended up having to get a proper Kawasaki one from a bike scrappy. Don't know if Blade/whatever has the same problem. If you haven't bought your engine yet, and you're getting it from a scrappy, ask if they can give you the toolkit as well, or even just the plug socket.

Have fun!
