melf
I am a recent owner of a Pre-Lit Westfield. The number of turns of the steering wheel Lock to Lock is about 2.6 revolutions. Is this a Quick Rack or not ? I believe the origanal rack/doner car was a Escort or Cortina MK1 if that helps !
Blatman
The only way to know for sure is to have a look to see if you have lock stops fitted on the rack. If there are no lock stops you have a quick (but not very) rack. If you have lock stops, then you probably have a standard rack which has been modified to produce the number of turns lock to lock by limiting travel. It will probably have a crap turning circle too..........
CedricTheBrave
Quick rack should be about 2.2 turns ??
ACW
If it was a quick rack it would be the slowest of the quicker ratios (they are normally around 2.5 turns L2L. I suspect it is a normal rack with stops to prevent cycle wings hitting bodywork.
melf
Thanks for the info. I think it must be a standard rack although there are no obvious Lock stops, but the turning circle is poor, I thought this was a feature! Is it worth carring out a conversion to give a 2.2 L2L ? Does it make it sensible to drive off the track ? Any comments or thoughts appriciated. Thanks again for your comments, every day I am learning more about the car and the smile just gets better. Why didn't I buy one years ago ?
Blatman
My road car rack is about 1.9 turns lock to lock, and it's no problem at all. I would swap...............Bear in mind that the steering will be proportionately heavier as a result.
