EMB
Can anyone help me out with the brochure / spec for the above car (1998 model)? I've read so many conflicting threads on what the spec is so I am curios to find out!

Mark B
Hi Euan, As a long time speedsport owner we have had various discussions on this topic before, but the conclusion is as follows- Westfield started producing the speedsport in late 98 & the original "true speedsport" spec was 1800 zetec, 3.92 ratio diff with lsd, anti roll bars, nylon bushes, 205/50/15 tyres, full weather gear, heater, trax spax dampers, jenvey throttle bodies. The above spec was listed in the original brochure which I have infront of me now. Depending on who supplied westfield with engines at the time you either got a standard ford "130 spec" engine, or a scholar modified engine with kent 1802 cams and some head porting etc. Some years later several cars appeared claiming to be speedsport spec, but varied widely, some were actually the same as the standard 1800 sport & didn't have anti roll bars, lsd etc, but then others you did. This is due to westfield changing the spec of the model towards the end & later cars could therefore be very well specced or quite spartan depending on the options that the original owner picked. If your car is an earlier car (ie 98 -2000) and has a maroon coloured engine block and grey hammered finish camcover then you have a scholar engine which with a good rolling road session will produce 170bhp. If you have a black block, then you have a standard ford engine & will make about 155bhp. Hope this explains things for you, if you're still unsure about something give me a ring if you like, my number is in the back of westfield world under Cheshire AO. Cheers, Mark B
EMB
Guys, thanks loads for the replies - this is a really nice forum. That has kind of cleared things up (Stuart you have PM), as my car has the Scholar engine. Now, if I can just find out why it's over fueling so much and sort it out, it looks like I will have myself a pretty nice Westfield!

ASB
i've spoken to scholar to try to find out about the speedsport engines but they had a fire at the work shop a while back so have no details of the old engines they built. Does everyone else's block and head have a sr number on them?
Mark B
Yes the scholar engine codes all start with sr. The tell tale as I said though is the maroon block & grey hammered finish camcover (obviously this could easily be changed though). I researched alot into the speedsport years ago & spoke to Scholar when they did have the records & traced my engine and a friends (we both have speedsports with scholar supplied engines), they all had some head porting, kent 1802 cams & arp type bolts. Euan, if you still have the standard map in your car this will cause it to overfuel, they were a "safe" map & were notoriously rich. Just have it mapped by an mbe specialist - I'd recommend Northampton motorsport personally. Cheers, Mark.
