Derby Allen Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I can confirm that around Donnington last week my car was on average 4 / 5 seconds a lap quicker with the aeroscreen, having done this track six times now i can only put it down to getting rid of the screen, even managed to keep up with my friends Caterham for 3 laps, my car being 35 BHP down on power compared to his, he is also a much better driver than me, well chuffed with converting over, should also have mentioned that i was getting a good 8 - 10Mph more down the straights, even managed to use 5th gear more often, Quote
Liam Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I would never go back to a screen. You just don't hit that wall that you do with a screen. Not sure how much acceleration is really affected (although it feels better) until you get to illegal speeds, but then I've never been there of course to know but acceleration at higher speeds and top end speed, on a track of course, is much better. No problems from buffeting, in fact I find there is less, but I think the aero height/design needs careful matching to your head height. I had a Tim D and found that my helmet was being sucked off at higher speeds. Changed to a Westfield screen that is higher (also with a different profile) and I do not have that problem. However I have never had a close shave with a cat Quote

nikpro Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Agree with everything that has been said in respect to performance - the flat windscreen is awful aerodynamically..........BUT IMO the cars with windscreens look so much better. (Less KitCar 'Nailish') If it is just a track car then aero is the way to go; Road and track I would like a windscreen; you get used to the buffeting and your nostrils flare out 'good style!' Sidescreens make for a good comfy road car (especially with my heater on. ) Quote
Asterix Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 you been popping the funny pills Jeff? Whatever next...Max Mosley to be president of Israel? Quote
slippy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I think you should do some scientific testing Cooper a with and with out scenario recording top speeds and lap times etc Quote
JeffC Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 the Westfield experience is not all about going quick Slipp, didnt you know driving a westfield is rather like making love to a beautiful woman , Its sometimes better to go slower and take your time and you can enjoy the moment longer Quote

Norman Verona Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I've been aero only for over 6 years now. I keep well away from the traffic in front and rarely get hit by anything. I also see insects flying up in the airstream, sometimes I feel them hit my hair (what little I have left), but never fully in the face when over 30 mph. At 130+mph I can easily hold my hand next to my face (palm forward). Lift hand above head and it feels like it's being broken such is the force of the wind. Try this test and if you have a problem with your hand next to your face look at the design of the aero. Quote
