Lurksalot Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Pete, Rolling stones ,bad company/free, quo, oasis, and even the newer guitar based stuff is fairly straight forward . get yourself down to the bookshop and see what songbooks they have that you fancy. Or browse the net for some tabs. You'll be surprise how quickly that you will be able to copy most songs after you've listened to it once or twice . Quote

The Great Fandango Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I too am learning to play... Have been for about 2 years but never seem to get any better presently. Songs that I use are:- - American Pie (very easy - first song I learnt) - Wonderful Tonight - Stairway to Heaven - Sleeping Satelite - REM - Crowded House Here are some VERY handy links: Justin sandercoe's Lessons Justin is Katie Melua's guitarist on tour and has some cracking lessons on you tube. I find it's sometimes better going via YouTube than his website to find particular lessons (eg. Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight) Also there's a great Tab website:- Ultimate Guitar Just search by song name or band and you're up and away in no time at all! Happy strumming Quote

brianm Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Once played the bass riff on stage,(badly) to love like a man by 10 years after, after a little back stage joke got out of hand. Quote
zoso Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Sunshine of your love by cream... All right now by free I'll be creeping by free (for when you do barre chords and the odd twiddly bit) Oasis, OCS, greenday, nirvana, dylan etc... all easy to play and quite rewarding cause' you can get to the point where you can play along with the proper track quickly... Pilot Pete Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 House of the rising sun, yep, thats been bashed out! Still struggle with the picking though sometimes. Slip, I've tried singing whilst playing dont look back in anger and canny do it. To be fair though, I have an awful singing voice, so why bother! Yeah, I used Justin sandercoe's tutorial to learn the wish you were here solo, makes it so much easier. Sweet home alabama has been one of the 1st ones I learned, just the main riff, obviously not the solo bits Jeff, you've improved, yesterday you couldn't even hit the blue button, now your 5 star'ing expert, I will have to check on your progress. Thanks gents, given me plenty to have a go at. Quote
