Driving shoes... Which ones?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm currently looking for a new set of shoes for driving the Westfield in. These are for normal road use, not trackdays, etc, I'm currently using a pair of race boot like trainers which cost a whole £6, but they are white and a bit embrassing to be seen in.

So I'd like something slim like a race boot, but more shoe like without the ankle support, and preferably in suede or leather in darker colours like black and brown.

I've tried the likes of DT, GPR, etc, but I haven't really seen anything that floats my boat. I have also tried a Google search for driving shoes, but that threw up masses of results for slim leather slip on things like your grandad would wear.

Anybody got any top tips.

TIA

Martin

PS: I've done a search, but with modern product cycles being what they are all the products were dis-continued when I follow the links.

If fire retardant properties are not really required, karting shoes/boots are worth looking at :t-up:

Give Mike Dixon (martini mike) a pm and see if he can help you out. If not....Non FR kart boots are pretty reasonable

Puma, current range , they usually have stores at mcarthur glen outlets, I've had a couple of pairs and the most expensive have been £30.

The ones I am using at the moment are not FR, they are high cat or something which are boots they look like this.  You won't find FR ones at the outlet. FR boots are not compulsory in the SS. I wear FR socks under them to be safe, works out a lot cheaper than FR boots.

I've got a pair of cheap OMP karting boots, black suede upper with a reflective stripe on the side, low ankle.  Very comfortable and look a bit like trainers I suppose.

Brickers, they are cheap as chips and look like proper karting boots. They also have the souls that go right up the back of the foot so grip well.

Sparkling white trainers and a Burberry cap - you can't go wrong  :p

Have a look at Piloti. Certainly are proper driving shoes. Don't know if they are available in the UK though...

Sounds obvious, but just go int a sports shop, take a look and try them on :t-up:

I've got  a pair of Puma trainers (don't know the make and model), they are pretty small considering the size of my feet and do the job nicely
