V8grunt Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 This post ties in with the one on FAQ about tyres/rim sizes Been out to check the RPM at 100 MPH on the local farmers dual carriageway and its doing 4000rpm, Is that about right? Also it revs around to 8000 according to the rev counter, for a big V8 that's seems a bit high!!! Quote
Muttleys V8 Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Think my new V8 will top out at 7K, but I could be wrong, 8 seems very high! Quote

If it's pretty standard - 6,000 tops' Quote
felters Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 If it's pretty standard - 6,000 tops' That would still be 150mph... about as fast as I'd want to go in Westy anyway Quote
V8grunt Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 Its a V8 out of a TVR Chimera... I'm not sure but, don't they use a different crankshaft to rover? I'm sure I've read something about a flat plane crank??? I know that the head has bigger valves and different cams, Its supposed to be pushing 260 ish BHP. I would imagine that their is a rev limiter fitted but it's never cut in, I don't normally rev it to that, But was curious about the revs and the engine speed MPH as the thread suggests Quote
VX2L16V Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 isn't it the cerbera with the AJP V8 with a flat plane crank? yup Quote
V8grunt Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 isn't it the cerbera with the AJP V8 with a flat plane crank? yup flat PLANE crank! all I know it sounds like a "Spitfire" and goes like one too! Quote
Mick S Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 If it’s fitted with standard hydraulic lifters then they will limit it to about 6,500rpm. High rev lifters will be at around 7,000rpm. It will need to be one hell of an engine to run at 8,000rpm with solid lifters and money no object and I wouldn’t expect it to last too long either. Quote

Also it revs around to 8000 according to the rev counter, for a big V8 that's seems a bit high!!! 94mph @ 4000 rpm assuming a 3.64:1 diff, a 0.8 top gear and 205/50/15 tyres Quote
Mike H Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Chimera is rover isn't it? In which case 8000rpm is out of the question on anyones budget. 6000-6500 tops unless you have different pistons, lifters and valve springs and a top notch balance job. Not sure if the tvr has this or not. Mike Quote
studbuckle Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 4000 sounds right. That's exactly what mine does. Standard Rover SD1 gearbox and Sierra LSD diff. 8000 doesn't sound right at all though. Standard Chimera engine will sound painful over 6400. Quote
V 8 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 The Flymo is all steel with 400hp and only revs to 7k. I would guess you have a dicky rev counter, although 4k @ 100 mph is about right. If you dont have rev limiter maybe it will go to 8k, but it wont last long. Just stop doing it Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 It sounds about right > Mine's at 3800rpm @100mph (16" rims)and will rev to 6,500 rpm But rarely take to to that cost most of the 300 bhp/320ftlb torque is made further down the rev range all the way upto about 6200 rpm and theres really no point after that plus you really don't have to take to more than 5800rpm because by that time you have already passed V1. Chimera is rover isn't it?In which case 8000rpm is out of the question on anyones budget. 6000-6500 tops unless you have different pistons, lifters and valve springs and a top notch balance job. Not sure if the tvr has this or not. Mike The majority of TVR V8 are Rover based as for going over 6500 in a V8 is pointless, at this level as all it does is move the power band further up the rev range yep great for a proper race car and lots of power but useless for road and the speed series! and why would you waste all that money? Just look at Tommo's 400bhp flymo that revs to 7000 and goes like a freaking freight train! Buzz Quote
evo-mark Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Its a V8 out of a TVR Chimera... I'm not sure but, don't they use a different crankshaft to rover? TVR and ROVER rev it to what you like sounds very reliable to me Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 The majority of TVR V8 are Rover based Buzz They have a number of different things but are BASED on the V8 Rover Buzz Quote
